Was The Crash On The Princess Highway Last Night A Skyline?

I just read this article on smh.com.au. Just wondering if it was a Skyline that was been described? "Mr Jenkins said police impounded the Nissan coupe, which he described as a "performance vehicle with modifications", and intended to formally interview the 18-year-old P2 license holder today."

After owning 3 different Skylines since about 2002 I am pretty much over the amount of crap you have to go through to own one as much as I do love them. I dont get hassled by the police at all these days but I still hate the attention my current skyline gets (R32 GTR). In some areas I cant pull up at a set of lights without some clown staring me down and revving his engine try to race me, cant park the car anywhere without the worry of it not been there when i return. (has been attempted to be stolen about 3 times over the last few years). When you tell people what car you drive they generally think you are a reckless hoon and the insurance seems to be getting more expensive every year even though I am getting older!

The other thing I unfortunately have come to realise is although a majority of the drivers involed in SAU are good when it comes to ben restrained on the road there are far more skyline owners who are not involved in the club and most of those guys drive like absoloute F@#Kheads. Some of the things i have seen fellow skyline owners do is well, embarassing. They give the rest of us a bad name and make all of us look stupid. I have to say i really dont blame the cops for picking on owners of modifies jap imports, particuarly skylines.

I think the club or somehow through this website we should make some sort of campaign to try and clear our names or get the message through that we are sick of these idiots behaving like idiots in the cars we love. Maybe get some bumper stickers made up, put a banner up at the next auto salon saying people who drive skylines banzai stye on the road are tools. I dont know just something to get the message across we are sick of everyone else making us look stupid.

After owning an r33gtst, r34 Gtt and at the moment an r32 GTR i am giving up on the skylines for a while partly because of this. Although im sure once i finish my uni degree in 18 months time and get back to full time work my first major purchase will be a R34GTR i just hope something changes by then.

Thanks for reading my rant!

It's not like the media to not mention a skyline when there is one doing shit like this...

I kinda see it as a Pulsar... thought it could be a silvia too...

Anyways, do people get pulled over more or less having SAU stickers on their car? Cause with the clubs public image (that being of regular organised legal events), I would assume that any skyline or car seen with that sticker on would be considered smart enough to not act like a tool on the roads basically...

I heard on radio this morning was an NX coupe and wanting to speak to the owner of a red ute with wooden tailgate that was seen at the time of the accident...suspected street racing :(

when it comes to "hooning", the media isnt interested in saying it's not a skyline, or an import. if it's not, they just label it a nissan to give the impression it is anyway.

I have, i got done with the sticker. So i removed it.

i've often wondered about that. thats why i didnt put mine on

I haven't heard of the skylines australia sticker being a negative drawcard in this sense. We guard our reputation as well as we can in that people with the sticker seen doing the wrong thing get the full force of our peer pressure.

+10 much agreed with you on all aspects ive been thinking about the bumper sticker idea for a while now im not being a hypocrit in anyway but i lost my liscence for a very very long time and im still suspended... i since bought my r32gtr as a true enthusiast and work on it regularly. when i get back on the road i want a slogan on my back window that promotes anti hooning and helps keep the cops from thinking im a thrasher typical skyline driver. Sau has helped me to realise that 55-59 is the only way to drive on the streets.

there was an old biking slogan that ive altured and would love it if someone made thousands

"going off at the track thats ok, but use your head on the rd"

any thoughts or idea of other anti hooning slogans

since I actually put the sticker on my car I dont think I have even been pulled over.. apart from the RBT stations..

edit: actually I have once, I cross a line when i went thru a roundabout at 4am and the cop wanted to make sure I wasnt drunk.. but thats pretty much it.

Condolences to the familys.....

Never one to endorse 'street racing' - however similar to the St Marys incident that received so much media - I have always believed that if you turn across the path of oncoming traffic you are in the wrong...

Sticker or no sticker...

Depends on what "public" you're talking about.

Your Average Joe in a Falcodore, who reads a bit too much Daily Telegraph and watches far too much ACA, wouldn't know SAU from a bar of soap. Having club signage just tells them you're in some illegal underground street racing gang, and you probably hijack trucks with a Honda Civic. Having a URL on your car just means, aside from driving a loud and obnoxious hoon mobile, that you're probably some internet hacker that's played so many computer games that you're a homicidal maniac.

As for cops, some of them might be knowledgeable enough about this place to know that the majority of the guys here are enthusiasts but not idiots.....but quite a few cops think an R-Comp tyre isn't street legal so I wouldn't bank on it.

    • So.... the K&N air box thingo was too big, ended up gifting it to a mate, well, by gifting it he actually supplied food and beer at the pub,  which was nice, as it will not sit on a shelf in the garage for the next 10 years I did trim up some of the existing stuff to neaten it all up and gave it some wrinkle paint, unfortunately it currently has a used and abused mish mash of different types of hose clamps, 4 big fat T bolt type (shit), and a few normal clamps of vairing sizes and brands, but..... only until the 6 constant tension black worm clamps that I ordered from EFI solutions turn up next week Currently the current hose clamps are triggering me hard, LOL Is this the final version, probably not, I really want just 2 silicone pieces, a straight bit of silicone from the filter to the MAF is easy and will happen as soon as I head into Just Jap tomorrow, the problematic part is a 30° silicone bend from the MAF to the TB that I can connect the engine breather from the head, I found that there are bulk head fittings for boat bilge pumps that should work, but until I can get a 30° silicone bend the alloy pipe, and the 11ty thousand hose clamps, are there for the foreseeable future 4 hose clamps are golden, 6 are grudgingly acceptable, the 8 currently holding it all together is just taking the piss    I've also ordered 60 more retaining wall blocks for the front yard, I mis-gonculated the height that was required to get above the base of the Photinia's (red robin's) that are the hedge behind the front fence, currently it is 2 blocks high, and about 1/2 a block short, so going 3 blocks high will be above the base of the red robin's, and allow some room for mulch
    • It is the stock air box with the panel filter. Everything else is stock except the exhaust at this point, as I also went back to the cleaned 270cc injectors. I will check the RPM when the IACV is unplugged and report back.
