Hey guys .. I sold my vx commodore 2 or so months ago and im yet to find/decide on what i want to buy! Basically i know i want a manual turbo preferably rear wheel drive but my problem is im still on my P's (VIC) for another year so ive decided that an s15 ADM is the car for me! ive got 30k to play with altho im having alot of trouble finding a low k, black, ADM, manual, mostly stock s15! My second car of choice is a r32 GTR which ive already gone to see (94 VspecII). THe car was in good nick and drove well altho im abit weary of the K's (seem woundback) its got 110,000 on the clock but the trip meter had the same hundreth reading. EG K's 110416

TRIP 416 . and ive been made aware that when the k's are wound back, the trip resets so looks abit dodgy, not to mention the seller was quick to reset the trip when questioned. Anyways.. just wanting to know how the 32GTR would be as a daily driver and if they are that high maintence as people say! Im willing to risk it on my P's for a year, cops in Geelong arent so bad!

Sorry for the large topic which really makes no sense , im just frustrated as ive got the cash ready to go but just cant find/decide on a car.. just would like to hear from people who have been in my position! ive always wanted a 32gtr but dont think its the smartest decision!

theres not too much excitment as far as turbo cars go if your on your P's. (in melb)

VIC ROADS, VIC COPS and Insurance can be a bit troublesome, especially if you go the GTR option. not wise

if i were in your shoes. wait until your off P's then suddenly pandora's box will open. JDM s15, 34GTT, Supra TT, GTR 32 and 33 ect.. ect.. all will fit in your price range.

buy something that will keep you moderatly happy, stick with it for a year, save a little more, sell car and then when your off P's get something you will love.

thats my opinion.

im a very impatient person .. but i see what your saying, i'd like to do that but i cant see myself wasting money on a car for a year then selling. If i was going to do that i would have kept the commodore for an extra year. I think ill be pretty right driving something illegal for a year unless i stack it. Geelong cops are pretty good/scarse!

Driving a GTR on P's.......goodluck

I'm sure you are aware what would happen to you if you hit anything/one insured or not..It doesnt seem much, driving a GTR on P's but when you really think about it it''s a major risk that could affect you for the rest of your days. Compusary 3rd party "viod" is the big one, injure anyone or yourself and you're on your own.

Be patient and get the s15.

well thats it .. police are the least of my worries! it is a risk .. if i found an s15 that i liked i'd snap it up straite away but from what ive heard, it'l most likely take months and so many people are after the same thing!

Buy A GTR and Take the GTR Badge off then when you are off ya P's Stick the Badge back on. :(

Although I always wanted a S15. Nice cars!

Try and insure with Just Cars, They pretty much cater for ppl such as yourself and probley most ppl pn this forum. GTRs can be a bit of pig to drive sometimes depending on suspension set up and ya clutch. If its stock then should be OK in traffic, but you know you preffer freeway, cuz the single plate can get heavy.

Drive it sensibly and keep the outside stock looking (nothing over the top) and most cops can do is just check ya license and breath test ya. But if cops a least of your worries than it should be all cool.

Be prepared to skip lunch and stop drinking beer if you buy the GTR... they aint cheap to maintain... think of a single turbo skyline, with TWICE the cost.

Also get more practice driving before you get a TT car.

Im in exactly the same boat my friend. Ive bin searching for cars since August last year and I'm yet to find one that i really really like. I wanted to buy a GTR but the main reason thats stopping me is the cost to maintain it. I do around 1200 - 1400kms a week driving to and from work so id need to service it every 3 weeks or so lol!

I thought of an S15 aswell but at the end of the day i think people are kidding themselves with the asking prices. 25 - 30k for a car with 120,000+ kms on it.

I wouldnt recommend doing anything like driving a gtr on ur ps if ur not allowed to because all it takes is one curious coppa or some f**kwit to hit you or slam on their brakes etc. Its just too much to risk and so unnecessary.

I think im gunna go with a R33 GTST or a BA XR6 Ute...

    • Hang on. Let me get this straight. The desire is to have coilovers, BC in particular, to be MORE comfortable on Sydney roads than stock suspension? Well, that's obviously not right. BCs have crude damping design at the very best, and typically hard spring rates. BC stands for Billy Cart. And then, the desire is to put in some shitty old worn out stockers, to get it blue slipped and then put the BCs back in? And then.....what? Not worry about getting pulled up by the Plod? Because you seem to have raised a worry about paying for engineering (which actually does solve all your legality problems) and still getting pulled up.... but the only problem there is that if/when that happens you have to show your paperwork at the inspection station. Whereas, if you just swap in borrowed shitty old stockers to get it slipped now, and then you get defected in the future, you have to go find more shitty old stockers then too. You course of action looks like this set of options: Buy brand new stock type dampers, and springs. probably cost a bit more than $1k all up, but will last for the remaining life of the car. Put them in, pass inspection, drive on them forever more. Hell, they could even be really nice Bilsteins and Kings or other lower&stiffer springs if you wanted. Get the car engineered as is. ~$1k. Buy new Shockworks coilvers (or MCA) and also pay for engineering. You're spending a lot more here. But these will be the best things that you could drive around on.
    • Might be worthwhile hitting up Facebook's groups, I know most of them contain terrible people and scammers - however you might be able to find someone that's in Sydney with factory suspension you could purchase and/or hire. Just do not send any form of money anywhere, in person cash only.
    • Thanks @Duncan Ride height is fine. I think it's almost stock tbh. Happy to share a pic. I don't actually have a regular mechanic as haven't lived in Sydney too long. Could you or anyone recommend any shops in Sydney?
    • You just need a different blue slip shop (preferably one you regularly use as a mechanic), and make sure the coil overs are as close as possible to standard height
    • yeah the sugar refining companies were pushing for the same in Oz originally, all fuels were going to have 10% ethanol to make them "cheaper" (noting, that the loss in l/100 might be greater than the decrease in price). I guess they won that fight in Canadia
