Just wondering if there are any forms to fillout when selling without roadworthy. The vicroads website states that a person can sell a car without roadworthy by cancelling registration and removing the plates. Is this all I would have to do if I wanted to get rid of the car? I had been trying to get rid of the civic for ages now, but its probably no point, so thinking of either selling without roadworthy for anyone who wants a car to fix and use as a "train station" car or as a wreck for spare parts. Basically, third gear pops out and according to one mechanic it means that the whole box would have to be changed, and that is $300+ labour.

I figure its no point fixing it as the car itself would only go for about 700 max (as there is nothing else wrong with it apart from some rust).

tis illegal to sell a registered car without a roadworthy, but you can still do it....just depends if you trust the buyer to get his own roady and get it transferred within the 14 days etc...

but yeah, the legal way without RWC is to cancel the rego and sell it unregistered which means it doesnt need a RWC

my mate should buy it for a daily...

If you don't want to cancel the rego just fill out a standard vehicle registration transfer form or whatever it is.

Keep your copy and give the seller his. The seller can still hand in the transfer paper and has a certain time frame to submit a RWC to complete transfer into his name. At least this way any fines or anything under that registration will go straight to the new buyer.

Have done it like this in the past before, never had a problem.

If any fines or anything show up you just present your copy of the transfer paper to Vic roads.

i think its looking like i am just going to have to get rid of the RWC for the civic - the holden should be ok. Gonna put them up on carsales i think, see who will come and buy it. Perhaps advertise the civic for 800 - 1000 (as all it needs is 3rd gear to be fixed) and advertising the holden for about 2400.

If you sell it with rego and plates but no rwc fill in the transfer papers and hand your copy into vic roads that day, after that any speeding fines or anything else the new owner does with the car goes to him/her, if you fill out the papers and keep your copy and dont hand it in you are still liable for any fines and any other incident the car gets into.

If they ask about the plates just plead ignorant and say you didnt know you had to take them off.

Also dont think your safe if it is out of rego, i left the plates on an old rx7 i sold, he just walked into the local vic roads and got a new rego label and paid the rego, only found out when i got a fine in the mail a few months later, i tried to cancel the rego and get a refund on the rego he paid but they would not do it till i had handed in the plates, in the end i put in transfer papers and then got an abusive phone call coz he got a letter in the mail telling him he had 28 days to get a rwc or they would suspend the rego.

i think what i have to do is, take the plates off and take it back to vicroads for a refund by cancelling what ever rego was left....i will have to give vicroads a call and check

i sold my sisters car for her to someone i thought was a friend, and we trusted him to get a roadworthy and transfer the car within the normal 14 day time period..

five months later my sister recieves a letter stating that she will loose her licence for doing 135 in a 100 zone (ring road camera) ... she had sold the car 5 months ago.... and this fine was only recent.

so do not trust anyone when it comes to roadworthys transfer and registration when selling a car

luckily my sister was able to sign a stat dec. saying she had sold the car to ____ _____ five months ago, and was not the driver or owner of the car whilst the offence took place

she then went to vicorads and did what i think was called "forceful transfer" , which is also a form of stat dec. declairing that ____ _____ is now the rightful owner of the car, so ____ ______ was then prompty sent a letter from vicorads saying, "get a roadworthy certificate and come into any vicroads office within the next 14 days to show us the certificate and pay transfer/stamp duty costs, otherwise we will suspend your registration, in which you then have 30 days to do so with a suspended registration, then it will be cancelled"

it even pays to do this when selling a car to a stranger... because it removes your name from the title of the car, this way any fines, offences etc done using the car will not come back to you

The legal thing to do is to take the plates off and cancel the rego, the problem is though the most valuable thing on those cars is the rego, its a lot easier to get a name transfer than to re register it, thats why doing it the way i suggested means you have more chance of selling the car and its out of your name.

    • Welcome to SAU, what are you looking at buying?
    • I checked the injectors again (1 and 2, since they’re easiest to access) to make sure they weren’t clogged. Even though the entire fuel system had been cleaned, I wanted to be certain. Everything looked clean, so I reinstalled and connected everything. When I started the car to confirm everything was okay, it immediately revved up high, so I shut it off straight away. I checked to see if I’d missed a vacuum hose or something, but everything was connected. On the second attempt, the car ran without the high idle, but I noticed a distinct “compressed air” sound coming from the engine bay. Tracing the sound, I pushed injector #6 forward slightly and the noise stopped — it turned out it wasn’t seated properly, despite the fuel rail being bolted down. While holding it in place, the car idled steadily without stalling and ran for over 5 minutes. At this point, I pulled all six injectors out just in case I hadn’t seated them correctly or dirt had gotten onto the O-rings. Unfortunately, I discovered that I had damaged 3 out of 6 injectors (the OEM 270cc ones) during installation. So yes, this was my fault. Since only the pintle caps were damaged, I’ve ordered a Fuel Injector Service Kit from NZEFI to refurbish them. In the meantime, I reinstalled my new injectors – the car now idles fine for over 15 minutes without stalling. I have not attempted to drive it so far. It’s not perfect yet, as it hesitates when the throttle is pressed, but it’s a big improvement. Unplugging the IACV with the new injectors idles at around 800rpm, even with the IACV screw tightened fully. But this is probably due to tune.
    • I wanted to try and preserve the front bumper as long as possible, they're not cheap and are made to order in Japan. Taking inspiration from my previous K11 Micra build where I made an undertray for the Impul bumper, I did the same for this BN Sports bumper but a little slimmed down.  This time round I only made a 'skid plate' (if that's the correct wording/term) for just the bumper surface area, the Micra version covered the gap like an undertray. Starting off with a sheet of mild steel approx. 0.9mm thick 4ft x 2ft in size. I traced around the bumper, cut it out and cleaned the edges. Luckily I was able to get two halves from one piece of metal In the video I installed it as is, but I've since then I've removed it to spray and add a rubber edging trim. The rubber trim is suitable for 1-2mm and it's a really nice tight fit. The bolts had to be loosened due to the plates being too tight against the bumper, the trim wouldn't push on I used some stainless M6 flat headed bolts for a flusher finish (rather than hex heads poking down), I believe this style fastener is used for furniture too incase you struggle to source some. The corner's are a little wider, but this may be an advantage incase I get close to bumping it  The front grill got some attention, finally getting round to repairing it. Upon removal one fixing pulled itself out of the plastic frame, one side is M8 that fixes inside of the frame, where as the other side is M5. Not knowing I could get replacements, I cut down an M8 bolt, threaded it inside the frame along with a decent amount of JB Weld.  The mesh was replaced to match the bumper. One hole on the bonnet/hood had to be drilled out to 8mm to accommodate the new stud, once the glue had set it could be refitted. I think the reason the grill was double meshed was to hide the horn/bonnet latch (which makes sense) but I much prefer it matching the bumper Bumper refitted and it's looking much better IMO The Youtube video can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVZP35io9MA
