if it further helps ontop of boosted_r32's comment... i had a set of xforce extractors on my civic... and they fit perfectly.

Everything was perfect from O2 sensor location to original bracket locations.

and the difference they made... well worth money spent! im sure the dumps are gonna be just as good!

How hard is it to fit dump pipes yourself?? Whats involved?

Hoist

Lots of tools

Full day if you've never done it before

You gotta pull the rear dump etc off, then the rear turbo, then the front dump, put the dump on and re-assemble.

You can do it on a trolley jack, but it takes forever as you have to go from over/under the motor on many occasions.

Simply put, if your not a good hands-on person, a GTR dump swap out is a workshop job as it’s a fair mongrel of a job.

Once you've done it a few times you can peg it back to a few hours, but you wont do it in a few hours off the bat IMO

Im about to put my turbos back on with X-force dumps. Thing is.. it doesnt look like my exhaust pipe from the dumps to the cat will line up with the x-force at all.

Anyone else have this prob?

Im pulling off stock turbs with stock dumps and the pipe is a 3-inch something or other. I assume its also stock

to r31 gagz, were you running stock or aftermarket dumps?, and are adj cam gears more worthwhile than cams?i want close to what you have on a safe tune...oh and were you using power fc d-jetro, or just normal? we got a good tuner here, and im about to buy an aftermarket ecu....

thanks.

im currently changing my dump in my gtr as well. however i couldnt get it right. the problem is when i compare the stock front and rear dump pipe, they are in fact not the same shape. but the stainless pair i have just bought is in the same shape. the stainless pair is identical. does this sound right? or are they supposed to be different in shape (the aftermarket ones)? the problem im facing now is the rear dump pipe is in the way of the gearbox housing.

when i look closer to the stock manifold i can see that they are not the same too. is that right? if yes does that means im having this problem now becoz i put the rear manifold on the front and vise versa?

plz help guys. any info would be appreciated. thanks :)

well you are half right. dump pipes are different front to rear but the manifolds are the same. If both dump pipes are the same there is a problem.

I had a really crap set of ebay pipes recently that also fouled on the gearbox. very frustrating they were on and off about 5 times to be modified, grinding the end off studs, bashing the wastegate pipe to clear the rear intake etc etc.

    • They are under bucket shims. Tomei provides a test shim kit and then any measurement of shim required.
    • I always wondered how you were supposed to buy a set of 24 buckets and somehow magically have every single one of them yield exactly the desired clearance. I would have thought you'd need to assemble a cam with either 12 "sample" or "example" buckets of known top thickness (or a single such sample/example 12 times over!!) measure clearances at every valve, and then do the usual math to work out what the actual "shimness" of each bucket needed to be, before buying the required buckets to make up he thicknesses that you didn't have on hand.
    • I now seem to be limited in power due to my rev limit/hydraulic lifters in my built RB25. I'm looking into converting over to Tomei solid lifters. Question for anyone that has done the conversion. I was always under the impression that when using the Tomei solid lifter conversion, you would also require new valves (Longer or shorter stems, I can't remember which).  I don't know where I got this idea, as so far I see no mention of this in any of the Tomei documentation. It just states I need the Tomei solid buckets, solid lifter cams and upgraded springs. As my head is already built, all I would need is another set of 1000$ Kelford cams, 500$ buckets and about 4H hours of my time installing and I'm off to the races!?!? There's no way it's that simple, I must be missing something?
