Hmmmm! The nice thing about the Power FC and now apparrantly the Microtech is they replace the factory ECU and sit there instead of it behind the panel trim and so are unlikely to be picked anyway. My EMS sits under the passenger seat and has just 3 I think wires spliced into the factory ECU so is much more conspicuous. All up cost including fitting tuning, hand controller and software for the laptop was $A2600 ....how does this compare with the Microtech seeing as I can't find prices anywhere.

I emailed Tim (horse power in a box) about 2 weeks ago and asked for more info and prices heres his response

WE have the units in stock at a discounted $1395 at the moment.

They plug straight in to your loom, replacing your ECU.

You only need to run a vacuum hose from the ECU to the manifold and one wire to an air temp sensor which is $44. I do my air intake kits complete with K&N filter at $395, they are a nice tapered intake , that replaces the airflow meter.

The Microtech has a boost contoller built in and comes with a dial for the boost adjustment, it has adjustable idle steeper motor control, air con' idle control etc etc so the car will run like factory. The Microtech has a very good base map but may require fine tuning on a dyno locally. Power gains are typically about 20KW at the wheels on the same boost when using this over standard.

Regards, Tim.

There's a Jap Joint In Gilbert Street that Clint32 put me on.

He had PowerFC's New for $1600 I think with a hand controller also. I think

And for a 33 GTR he was hard to understand but i swear with a hand controller he said $1654.

He had lots of nice stuff in there actually.

On A RB20DET apparently the HKS GT2530 makes full boost by approx 3500rpm and the HKS GT2540 makes full boost by 4000rpm.

HKS GT2530 makes 220rwkw on a RB20DET with tuning ECU Remap and 1.1bar of boost.

HKS GT2540 makes around 240rwkw maybe a little more.

Then cam gears then NA Cams.. :)

XrSiSt,

A bit of both really, but if you want plug-in then you have the choice of only two systems. If you don't care about plug-in then Autronic, Motec, Haltech, EMS, Wolf 3D etc will all give you heaps of power, drivability and functionality.

However I mentioned in the previous page the reasons for the choice, have a look at those and ask agian if you have any more questions.

Freebaggin.

I'd say we'll see more & more Aussie ECU manufacturers bringing out plug-in ECU's, we've already seen Microtech, & now AEMS (Wolf 3D). The potential in the Aussie market it certainly there!

Whilst the Power FC & HKS F CON are great options (if we had more knowledge/English software on the F CON) they still have their limitations. Considering Australia is one of the front runners in the ECU market (just look @ Motec!) it's only a matter of time till we no longer see the Power FC as the No1 option for our GTSt's & GT-R's etc...

As for why I chose the LT12? A number of different reasons really, options, cost, local tuning knowledge & support, & on going R&D.

b2barker,

I don't think any ECU (aftermarket or factory) uses the O2 sensor with mid to WOT mixture setting, that is all done manually during the tune.

It's the light load and idle stuff where an ECU either does or does not use the O2 sensor for mixture control, the latter being open loop. When in closed loop, the ECU leans the mixture out a huge amount to save fuel, however according to the open loop tuners you shouldn't have to rely on a closed loop system to give optimum fuel economy during cruise and idle, it should be inherent in the tuning.

But I assume it does make a bit of difference to have closed loop for fuel econ, but it dulls throttle response during cruising as a consequence because the mixture is so lean.

    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
