Just got the Bilstein upgrade into my AR-X. It's about a two hour job but you will need spring compressors.

What a fu..ing difference. Ride over bumps is about the same as standard. The body roll issue which was a big issue is now gone. All in all it's a great upgrade. Just gotta do the sway bar's now.

I just did the Bilstein shock and spring upgrade today. Holy cow what a difference it made to the ride and handling of the car! My old shocks were stuffed anyway.

No more bouncing around, the car is nice and firm on the road without being stiff or bone jarring. I love this car!

wait till you do the swaybar upgrade. not only a great ride but points and goes where you want it to around a corner using the throttle. soooooooo nice.

just got to look at the exhaust now..............

Thanks, I do want to get the sways done as well but i'm souring them from Japan, not locally so it's going to take some time.

And the exhaust! trying to get more info on that as well from my suppliers in Japan. Will let you know if interested.

interested in exhaust but do not want a loud exhaust, just better flow. maybe an impossible ask but I will try to find it. also cost is a factor as I would like to keep it in the budget.

And that's the problem Ive come up with. Finding a good Jap branded system on a budget. I found this small tuning shop that specialises in NM35 parts including a sensational full exhaust system, but the prices they're asking is way too expensive.

And the mainstream brands unfortunately dont provide much for our cars.

Hey Andy. I am in the same boat... after my turbo decided to shed some "unwanted" ceramic...

I am looking into the Fujitsubo exhausts as they have good flow and, according to the readouts on Import Monster, are not much louder than stock.

I believe that this one is the REVO, although I may be waaaaayyyy off.

btw. The turbo CAN come off without dropping the engine (without damage) - as was performed on my Stag at 8pm last night.

You guy's are crazy to spend that much on an exhaust just because it's shiny(unless its for show).

Locally 3" made from the first cat back is approx $1,100 in Sydney.....and there's no wait. If you want a custom made muffler on the back to get it quieter its about an extra $400.

Bit better in price than the Jap stuff which is about $2,955 for the same thing.....and thats before you ship it.

I know what i'll be spending my extra $1,855 on!!!!!

I knew it!!!

I knew it too...BUT...it all depends on whether you can get that last hard to get at bolt off with the special tool. Well at least according to my mechanic anyway.

Actually I have been quoted $1400 installed for the Legalis R typeEVOLUTION (thanks for clearing that one up for me Andrew). It is a "first cat-back" exhaust and for an additional $600, I have been offered a custom dump & Hi-flow cat.

Gotta say man, there is no way in hell I would be spending $3k for an exhaust (hence the reason I did not go Nismo - although that would have sent me back more than $3k). :D

Stage 2 of the suspension upgrade was done over the weekend and has been a huge success.

I have installed a set of Bilstein springs and shock that lower the car around 25-30mm at mximum. The results of the upgrade are fantastic although the actual job is quite complicated and difficult.

The ride with up graded swaybars and the new shocks is quite different to previous ride. The shocks removed had mostly had it so rebound control was bad. The ride now at 30 - 40 kmh is quite firm and you feel most bumps but not bone jarring by any meams. Once a little more speed is up the ride is great, smooth over bumps with lot of boddy control and able to place the car on the road just where you want.

The drop in height drastically changes the look of the wheels in the wheel arch and is noticable when driving the car. Not quite the SUV any more.

I will post up some photo's and details of the suspension fitted tomorrow.

Cheers

Hey Andy, who did you get your Bilstein kit through?

hmm....

I have seen that the bilstein kit will cost me $1600+ to get via import monster or slidewize.

The local Bilstein distributors are not much help either ("a nissan WHAT? Never heard of it.").

If you guys got yours through a distributor, who was it & what are the details of your kit?

I am also curious to know more about the HKS Hipermax LS+ kit. Anyone know anything abou these?

Cheers guys.

I will post up the part number for the Bilsein kit tonight. The Jap Bilstein distribuor did a special order for these and they are not distributed any where but Japan. There are 2 models available. One for the 250RS/RX models and one for the ARX model. The ARX one may be gettting harder to get now as I was told in May that the distributor had sold out of the kits so it was a question of finding a store with it in stock. (lucky me).

The other option is to speak to Ben at Northshore Prestiege and see if he can bring a set in for you. He brought some in not long ago but I believe they are all sold.

Sorry but my contact in Japan is not so good any more as he was a distributor of my product in Japan but I have since left that company and not spoken to him for a while.

Cheers

Andy

    • So.... the K&N air box thingo was too big, ended up gifting it to a mate, well, by gifting it he actually supplied food and beer at the pub,  which was nice, as it will not sit on a shelf in the garage for the next 10 years I did trim up some of the existing stuff to neaten it all up and gave it some wrinkle paint, unfortunately it currently has a used and abused mish mash of different types of hose clamps, 4 big fat T bolt type (shit), and a few normal clamps of vairing sizes and brands, but..... only until the 6 constant tension black worm clamps that I ordered from EFI solutions turn up next week Currently the current hose clamps are triggering me hard, LOL Is this the final version, probably not, I really want just 2 silicone pieces, a straight bit of silicone from the filter to the MAF is easy and will happen as soon as I head into Just Jap tomorrow, the problematic part is a 30° silicone bend from the MAF to the TB that I can connect the engine breather from the head, I found that there are bulk head fittings for boat bilge pumps that should work, but until I can get a 30° silicone bend the alloy pipe, and the 11ty thousand hose clamps, are there for the foreseeable future 4 hose clamps are golden, 6 are grudgingly acceptable, the 8 currently holding it all together is just taking the piss    I've also ordered 60 more retaining wall blocks for the front yard, I mis-gonculated the height that was required to get above the base of the Photinia's (red robin's) that are the hedge behind the front fence, currently it is 2 blocks high, and about 1/2 a block short, so going 3 blocks high will be above the base of the red robin's, and allow some room for mulch
    • It is the stock air box with the panel filter. Everything else is stock except the exhaust at this point, as I also went back to the cleaned 270cc injectors. I will check the RPM when the IACV is unplugged and report back.
    • As MBS suggested if this is happening when the engine is cold you're going to want to remove the intake air regulator and verify resistance + that the shutter is physically opening and closing. At -20C should be fully open, 20C half open, over 60C fully closed. At 20C should be 70-80 ohms. For AAC valve testing using a Consult cable see if you can raise and lower the idle by commanding more or less AAC duty cycle. Hopefully it's pretty linear as well, shouldn't be like 30% AAC valve is barely idling and 40% is 1500 rpm.
    • Bloody apprentices! 🙄
    • Not sure yet.  Was considering speedtek because it was rated to 800hp, but when I did some research about him I don't think I will go for that🤣 So maybe giken gear set, but I'm afraid it won't be strong enough🙄
