to put it in form underneath remove the whole subframe then put the motor and box onto it (do up engine mounts etc). they lower car back onto subframe, bolt subframe back into chasis and voila you are done

well we've tried every way we can think of including from underneath and now always put it in thru the top. we don't have a hoist just a jack and engine hoist

but engine with box attached is a pain too, all we did was bend the radiator cross member. wrxhoon tells me it can be done though :D

Through the top I put them in seperately its easyer but you need experiance getting gearbox in but I can do it in about 2hrs this way (only bolted in not hooked up) if you have a hoist drop the subframe. undo the hicas crap lines etc undo coupling from steering col-rack, remove you waistegate actuators, put motor and box onto crossmember bolt up mounts, drive shaft/axles, use 2 gearbox lifts 1 under crossmember 1 under gearbox raise up slowly bolt up. I looked at doing it from top box attached and it look like a world of hurt to me. But if you try it let us know how you go. if you need more advice pm me.

I can only speak for a 33 GTR but you can get the engine and box in together going over the top.

You need to make sure you have a chain block close coupled (don't just try and use the engine lifter) and fit a come-along or similar with a soft sling around the gearbox to allow you to tilt it as required.

It is definitely not a one man job but can be done with some help (mine went in and out about 4 times making sure the custom top pipes fitted).

Cheers

I have alwys done it:

Box from under the car.. attach cross member..

Put engine cross member, steering rack, engine mounts and then drop engine in from the top..

Sometimes you will need to wobble a few things around (depending on whether you still have AC compressor and power steering pump still attatched).. its easier still if you remove all that and attach after the engine has been dropped in

When your finished come up to sydney and do mine too :P

i'm thinking of dropping out the bottom. lifting shell up and draging out box and engine on a trolley.

i've already undone all the looms etc, just waiting on an engine crane to get it done.

i might try take the plenum off too as it looks like i'm going to hit the hicas shit. or move that out of the way whatever is easier

yer i would if i loved putting motors in but unfortunately i hate it, im not looking forward to it

i almost ed considered paying a workshop to do it

bloody engines in & out! it's a pain in the ass , ain it?? :ninja:

something most rb owners experience hehe

i think it's easy, i just normally leave it to Mark!! actually he tells me to f##k off as i just get in the way.

mind you it''s so much harder on a road car , generally!

true, no aircon and no hicas really helps. we did it in 3 hours 2 weeks ago, + 2 more hours to strip the motor to see how much damage we had done. going back in this weekend hopefully but that takes longer (no point rushing that and finding a coolant hose under the rear of the plenum is wrong)

As long as you can lift it high enough its easier from the top and as one unit ( engine/box) . the car has to be off the ground on stands so the whole unit can fit, its a very long unit . I never remove the steering rack, the air con compreesor can be tied to the rail and the m6 bolt that holds the power steering line on the drivers side has to b e undone. Careful not to bent the cluch lines with the plenum and drop it in nice and slow while someone is watching as it is a very tight fit.

    • Newbie here, proud owner of an Autech 260RS. I'm on the hunt for wiring diagrams specific to the 260RS, particularly S1. I've ran my eyes through R33, R34 Diagrams, there are some similarities, however continue to find incorrect wire colours and pins on connectors in the 33,34 diagrams.   I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction? I'd be happy to pay for the originals in Japanese. I can translate them, at least they would be accurate.   Any help please would be greatly appreciated, never heard an RB26DETT before let alone driven one, and I've got a spaghetti monster of goodness to sort out.   Cheers Benny
    • Hey all  im wondering if you can help me please I have put a rb20 box in my r34 gtt as my auto packed up and a friend had a spare box I know it’s not ideal but it will get me up and running for now. we have done the conversation and everything is working great but my Speedo we got a s13 speed sensor but my Speedo reads double now and I bought a speed converter but still not having any luck.  so I thought I’ll reach out and pick your brains  any help would be appreciated please as I wanna drive my car again
    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
