hello everyone, i own a series 1 R34 GTS-T... options include powerfc with hand controller, hks injectors, bigger turbo, front mount, and a few other goodies but lately, my beast has developed a nasty habit, at idle the engine seems to hunt from around 1000rpm to 16-1700rpm at constant intervals, the hand controler tells me that the inj duty is cutting out and thats y it decreases but i dont know y it increases to begin with, i first assumes a dirty idle control solenoid, so i removed it and cleaned, and plugged in to test the opperation, i could se that the solenoid was working fine and had no blockages, the next step is to inspect the steeper motor but i do not know what it should be doing... i have searched all the vacum lines and am 98% certain that there is no vacum leak, the throttle body appears to be clean and good

i ask if anyone has every had any simliar problems with hunting in the R34 neo and how did you fix it? i would love to get my hands on a wiring schematic so i know which wires i can back probe and check for faults...

PLEASE HELP ME... or point me to someone who can :pirate:

i appreciate any help you can give

Ignition coils misfiring maybe??? or burnt out sparkplugs??? :pirate:

I had a similar problem.. but then again I've got a GT .. there's a lot more going on in your engine bay than mine..

Hope you figure it out :D

ok for starters, it may not be a GTS-T it was debadged when i bought it, but it most definalty the 2.5 NEO turbo, i dont know the diference between the GT or GTS-T...?

ok now back my problem..

yeah im fairly certain that there are no vacum leaks, iv inspected the various pressure sensors, pollution gear, iv had the air flow meter out to make sure its not damaged, i havent had the spark plugs out yet but i guess that i should look there next, but im am curious about the steeper motors, has anyone had any problems with these before, and once again, does anyone have any wiring diagrams for the engine management? or where i can get them from (buy them from)?

heres a pic i just took in the worskshop! still along way to go to glory but its good for 250rwkw at the moment, plans for bigger high mount turbo, custom plennum etc etc.. :teehee: if i can ge this stupid problem fixed, any longer and im just going to have to tkae it a pro in brisbane or something, anyone recomend someone who knows 34's in brisbane?

oh, ok, thanks for the update, but i guess no one can help me out with the info i require? i realy wanted to fix it myself, its a tough drive to brisy with a car thats not running right, i dont want to cause more damage

  • 3 weeks later...

sounds like someone just bought their first skyline XD well if your that worried about doing serious damage just get it put on a frieght train down to brissy.. shouldnt cost too much... or if it's only doin it while idling.. just strap yourself in and go non stop straight to brissy...

after all this i cant help you with the problem

Sounds ignition related. Get the coilpacks and plugs out. Change the plugs anyway.

The AAC valve might be related to it. Maybe your oxygen sensor is kaput.

I was going to say 02 sensor as well, they do funny things on the R34 when they play up/die, but normally they make the engine hunt low-down then stall on hard braking.

Hunting high then low has always pointed to a dodgy throttle position sensor in my book, sometimes something as simple as taikng the connector off then putting it back on can fix a poor contact with the plug :ermm:

thanks heaps 666DAN, this is the sort of thing i have been looking for, but... will it still apply since i have a range of aftermarket gear such as the apexi computer, avcr boost controller, different injectors and other differetn goodies, i supose i will have to try... so far, i have tried remvoing different electrical conections while the car is running, removing the sensor of the stepper motor stops the hunting but the revs then sit alot higher, removing the tps sensor also does teh same thing, i have removed the air flow meter and inspected for damage or obstruction to the air flow over the sensor and it all appears to be fine, when i disconnect the air flow meter when the car is running the car simply stops, no waht revs, however in the apexi controller settings, i can change it from standard R34 airflow meter to the other options, it settles the idle down to normal but spits that much fuel out the exhaust that i could catch it with a bucket, i have a feeling its a problem with the air flow meter but i cant be certain without knowing what voltage signal is suposed to be generated at what RPM the same goes for the other sensors, all i could do is try a different airflow meter to see if it changes it, problem is thier are only 3 other R34 skylines in bundaberg and have no idea who owns them or how to get in contact with them.

does anyone know how to get hold of the origianl workshop manuel (including full diagnostic procedure) that has been translated to english... there is no one in town who knows anything about this problem (or wants to know) iv tried other forums and got no response...

the proble is so bad that i have to put the brakes on the make the car run below 2000Rpm, i can drive the car up to fith gear without ever touching the accelerator, it makes it very hard in stop go traffic or thru drive thrus, and other annoying places... to the point where i hav parked the car al together and have resorted to driving my old crappy N/A VL berlina...

I NEED HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

once again, does anyone know anyone in brisbane sunny coast (or queensland) area who is well capable of helping me fix my car?

once again, thankyou in advance for any help you can give...

Get onto marty at mw performance. He is in maroochydore, i know its a bit of a drive though. He has worked on a few of these he is your man , he has all the diagnostic gear.He can plug it into his laptop and have a look for you.Pm me if you want his details.

also apart fromt the hunting at idle does it seem to drive ok on normal driving? Have you checked your wiring to the injectors or your fuel pressure to them? your pump might be shagged.

well i have finaly stopped the car from hunting, i was at about 6500rpm when i heard the heart breaking, soul shattering "BANG!" and the subsequent "clatter, clatter, clatter" as the egine internals turned to mush and i puled to a holt on the side of the road! Iv just destroyed my 1st engine! my R34 is dead!

P.S. anyone got a spare RB25DET sitting around that they arnt using and is in good working order and wants to sell real cheap...? yeah, thought not!

oh well... anyone want sheap R34 skyline parts! got turbo, apexi computer and AVCR bost controller hks 550cc injetors... heaps of stuff give me a call 0412703353 (before i get drunk and pissed off and burn it)

    • Haha thanks everyone, I'll take everyone's suggestions into consideration. If I do eventually choose a car ill post it here update on the mods I do.
    • I found the ingredients at larger amounts from a Coffee Shop. 1kg Citric Acid for €8.50 500g Baking Soda for €2.50 I tried it out tonight distilled water (I got from my ACs) and dish soap. It does get bubbly with dish soap. In just two hours the hanger has improved significantly and rubbing against any remaining rust seems to flake it off. I'm going to leave it a little bit longer and see how it goes. I have read that someone even used this solution in an ultrasonic cleaner to clean a seized water pump which brought it back to life.
    • If you like more modern stuff than the R series, you should check out a V37 400R, they are pretty mod friendly
    • Haha luckily we don't have emissions, inspections, or any laws against power adders here. They only thing they somewhat keep an eye out for are ridiculously loud exhausts.
    • Just wanted to pop in an update on my setup. The CD swap has been great, I love the mazworks housing for the overall simplicity. I ended up sealing my trans tunnel with a thin sheet of aluminum reused some of the holes on the trans tunnel, and laid some window sealing EPS foam around the edges. Works great, really quieted things down and sealed up the car.  As for the power comment. Right now I am also running about 650whp. with the way the bell housing is attached to the face of the transmission I have zero doubts it would be fine, mainly because the input shaft and main shaft bearings are seated into the bell housing adapter. This means the load is NOT on the bolts to maintain the power, rather into he casing of the bell housing; Yes the bolts are doing some work there, but with both shafts locked in zero worries.  End of the day, the Mazworks solution is the easiest and safest. no need to take your trans to a shop to get milled perfectly, it fits with minimal clearancing, and you can use all your existing clutch and flywheel.  Driving wise the CD has been great compared to the big box, I'll probably swap my final drive at some point. The serial 9 shifter is gooooood, my only qualm is how tight it is, it takes a fair bit to get use to, 5th and 6th are a bit eh/hard to find at times, but maybe I need re-adjusting, and I think my clutch master is very tired and needs a rebuild.
