was over at Red R Racing yesterday checking out the new engine room. Paul was showing me box after box of new parts for your build.

the deal Paul has worked out for you is a cracker. We got stuck into pulling the 25 out last night and getting it ready to be sent to its new home.

hey dave - paul has spoken about u and your setup in the past...do u have a thread on your car? im interested to know what turbo setup u are running to achieve 604awhp.

its funny if u look at the gtr.co.uk website a lot of the gtr owners have taken up the rb26/30 upgrade as well as the rb30 god in nz (rips racing)...looks like the 3ltr bottom is finally starting to make recognition here in aust

oh dear paul - no more can u lay sh1t on forklift motors HA!

HKS T04Z Marko. The figure was made at autosalon and was tuned by Paul the night before. It was good enough to win us a dyno trophy

Paul always had the 30 idea floating around and one day wanted to build one but in a RWD car as the 4WD RB30 still was not a proven combo in aust. Now that his friend in Sydney has sucessfully has got a 4WD one sorted and has spent a bit of time with his mate Justin in Brisbane who eats and sleeps 30's (single cam) he was keen to build one that would be 'off the hook'. NYTSKY's new bottom end was going to be a methanol drag engine wearing 'twoogles' current head put into an s13 silvia but when the sale of the gtr shell fell through the plans were shelved. I would have liked to have seen the s13 car completed but having it going in Dave's car will at least have it around to see running instead of selling off all the bits.

Forklift jokes were to wind up you guys on here, im sure you know how much he likes a bit of a giggle. lol.

Keep the VCT with the cams i have now or go 264 IN 272 EX and no VCT?

Decisions, decisions.......

I have seen back to back runs on a big 25/30 with the VCT on and off, the difference on low end torque was very noticeable.

Just out of curiosity what do you use this car mainly for, just as a weekend warrior? Or does it see lots of track action?

No doubt I would lose my license very quickly with that sort of power on the street, ~200kw is enough in this cold weather atm for me!

Read all 56 pages over the last 2 days, was a top read! One thing I would add is you should consider plumbing your catch can back into the intake, that way you will get vacuum assist to help scavenging all the blow by gases etc, might result in a little oil in the intake but generally nothing wrong with that.

Also how much difference was there with the VCT power wise down low? Curious as mine is currently not connected (using rb20 ecu) but I am considering building a controller for it.

plumbing it into the intake is fine on the street but not on the track. I originally had mine set-up that way and saw no blow-by on the street but at Superlap the car blew oil out the breathers, filled the small tank and then spewed oil into the turbo. Coming off throttle into turn one the oil sprayed out the inlet tract shorting out the AFM's, cutting the car out mid corner and almost ended up on its roof!

Oil mist is also detonation fuel.

Just curious how bad the tolerances must be on my motor for them to rattle for a solid minute when cold.

i think it also depends on the pistons u are running, if they're teflon coated etc

i running mahle's & yes they make a bit of noise but it wouldnt be longer than 20sec maybe?

I'm running arias pistons, but its quite a loud racket for about a minute, if the cold start pulls the ignition timing (only seems to do it 1/3 starts for some reason) they don't rattle though, generally the lower the revs the worse it is, might have to look into getting the tune amended.

Anyway I'll stop taking this thread off topic.

So NYTSKY you reckon the 30 will chirp second? :D

    • Depending on how long the car sat it is very possible for injectors to be stuck open or closed, I'd get them cleaned and flow tested. Other than that, obviously when the loom changes and the car doesn't start any more....the loom is suspect so some tracing / comparing may be required
    • Harness is for a s1 Rb25det, and it is engine and lower harness.  the old harness had broken off plugs and was in very rough condition/exposed wires and splices etc. it is not able to be put back on the car, I could visually inspect to see if they had rewired any pins on the ecu plug. The fuel pump definitly isn’t turning off it’s an external pump and very loud you can hear it. Will look at the other harness tonight, am also going to pull the fuel rail and watch the injectors spray, will update here with what I find. Pretty sure at this point it has to be something to do with injectors because car will fire up on starting fluid and cas is clicking the Injectors. Fuel pressure is steady 43psi
    • Check the injectors flow evenly, and are actually flowing what you and the ECU think they should be flowing. If it's starting up on starter fluid, you have a fuel issue. Is it possible under cranking your fuel pump is turning off?   The harness you replaced, is that the whole engine harness? Do yourself a test, and drop the old harness on and plug it into the Z32 ECU. It's possible they've wired things different. From memory S1 to S2 is different in RB25 and you may have a wrong loom
    • I haven’t pulled the injectors to watch them spray yet but they are clicking from the cas and all of the spark plugs are wet with fuel. I’ve thought the cylinders were being flooded from the beginning and was hoping fuel pressure would fix it. Tonight I am going to pull the rail and watch the injectors spray. Don’t know how to test/diagnose if the plugs are firing in correct sequence but that should be a timing thing and as far as timing goes my car still has the half moon for the cas can only install it 1 way. And my mechanical timing is 100% correct I posted photos above. Confirmed with the balancer on and off.
