Need to sell my GTR due to lack of funds and pockets cant take it anymore. But I still want to get something that will be fun to drive around town. The only reason I want a WRX is because I like the sound of them, but if I got back into another Skyline it would have some pretty big shoes to fill, not that there's anything wrong with a GT-T, but they ain't no GTR. I know you guys will be a bit biast, but its only till my salary goes up and I can properly support a GT-R. I dont care to much but I couldn't stand getting into a falcon or commodore.

R34 GT-T or a MY02 WRX, weaknesses and strengths.

Why do I feel like I'm going to get burned for this.

Interesting... although your downgrading from the top to the middle range skyline, and your worried about it having big shoes to fill... in some ways the WRX might give you that feeling abit more. I say so because the WRX will be an AWD, turbo car. And therefore you will probably be able to draw more inferences with the handling/performance of the car. However jumping back to a RWD 34, although its no GTR, it will provide you with a driving experience totally different to that of the GTR. The tail will be jumping out, power on oversteer etc.

To me, the WRX might make you miss the GTR more, because you will feel just how good the AWD of the GTR is when compared with competitors. However, the GTT will just form a tail happy, totally different drive.

Something to consider anyway ;)

IMOi think the 02 rex is ugly and i read some where that they have the most turbo lag out of the WRXs. My choice would be the GTT as i love the look and the engine is awsome..i guess if you could find an R34 GT4 with a Stagea RB25DET NEO awd put in that would help in filling in the shoes of the gtr as you would have a very similiaawd system

if you want it for around town, the wrx may be a better option for its functionality, 4 door, i think its smaller too, dont get me wrong, i love my r34 gtt, the r34 is more aestheically pleasing IMO, but wrz's have a nice exhaust note, not to say u cant get a nice note on a skyline, but evry1 knows when a wrx is coming...

... its a personal preference, thas what it comes down to...

good luck deciding

(watch out for wrx gear boxes)

All subjective I guess, I reckon all WRX's sound like @ss with looks to match, although I do like the MY99 and the '05 shape doesn't seem too bad to me.

GT-t will really let you down performance wise coming from a gt-r, especially if you've modified it,

but I like them, most aggressive lines of all GT(s)T's, easy to handle in the sense that they are tail happy but it's easily controllable which makes it more fun to drive in my opinion.

I hate 4 doors anyway

Currently I have both a r34gtt and a my98 wagon. The standard WRX has no trouble keepin up with the highly modified Skyline until you get over a 100kph. The WRX is a lot easier to drive and gets about 150klms more per tank. But the GTT looks better and sounds better.

Thanks guys, I might get something cheap just to get me around till finances look better, how do you guys rate gtir's. They look good on paper, but still its a pulsar, its only temporary but, maybe a 32 gtst could be some fun. Dunno, thanks again.

personally go the wrx.

a few mates have had a few 34 gtt's.

they seem to have NO personality and DONT turn heads.

not to mention they are UGLY AS HELL :whistling:

whereas if u see a modded wrx go by, especially with that exhaust note, u HAVE to look :(

I just came from an 03 WRX into a R34 GTT. I wouldnt even think about an 02 due to the ugly bug eye looks and they were really dull performance wise - too heavy.

The handling of the WRX was in another league just wouldnt let go and it really shoved you back in the seat (mine had just zorst) when the turbo came on. The WRX also was HEAPS better on fuel and sounded awesome. More practical too, big boot, 4 doors - did a couple of big ski trips with a snowboard and skis to Victoria and it swallowed it all and was comfy too. No snow chains needed either which was a bonus.

The GTT handling wont get as fast point to point but it so much more fun than the WRX - power oversteers at the slightest little provocation. Dosn't feel as fast as the WRX in a straight line but it may be due to the way it delivers its power rather than being slower. Looks wise I like both but think the R34 wins hands down, its so sexy from any angle. Plenty more looks in the R34, WRX blend in as everyone has one (not that I could care less about looks). You also sit alot lower in the seat and feel one with the road (I jump in my wifes corolla after driving the r34 and it feels like your in a Mack truck as you sit so high). Oh and interior on R34 wins hands down as coolest interior I have owned - more gauges than a Boeing 747 and look great with the blue LED mod. Only downfall of the R34 is the fuel - I get 350km till the fuel lights on and that is driving sensibly. So around 14-15L/100km. Pretty bad really...The WRX was getting around 11L/100km.

If you want something cheap I just cant go past an S13 Silvia - under $10K, heaps of performance, fun and economy, heaps of parts ect.

go the rex.

damn nice to look at, not a straight line on it.

4 door.

and has a sweet exhaust note.

compare that to a 34gtt, which is basically a 80y.o librarian on wheels....snore Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Not looking to spend much at all say $13k or $14k, I would be happy with a nice silver/black/white R33 GTS-T series 2. I would like one with a front mout purley for looks. It can be stock other than that. Maybe an exhaust.

I need to get rid of the one I have first though. LOL.

Anyone want to swap me for my GTR?

    • I hadn't thought about the variable power steering assist. Presumably, it will always be the same level of assist as you get in an S14. The R32/3/4 are either helliishly heavy (at low speeds) if the solenoid is not powered at all, or hellishly too light (at high speed) if it is powered all the time. I presume that it is PWM controlled on those cars. I hadn't thought about the S cars not having variable assist. ugh. What crappy plebby cars they must be!
    • Hmm yeah that is a good point. It looks like it'll just bolt in with no real issue besides maybe the bushings being different. My other concern was that 2 pin plug that I assume is used in some way to control the rack solenoid depending on the speed signal from the ecu. The DMAX rack doesn't even have that plug though so, don't think it'll matter. Might just order the rack and see how it goes. Will update this when I figure something out
    • I'd say it's a fair bet that the feed and return fluid lines will be in different enough spots that you would need to come up with a way to cut the originals short and adapt with new hard line adaption or braided teflon hoses or somesuch. But really, you have the car, you have the photos of the DMAX rack - you should be able to go out there and see for yourself whether they're in the same or different spots.
    • I've been doing some looking around and honestly was just considering throwing a new rack at it. I saw that the dmax silvia rack bolts up into the 33 with the silvia bushings but not sure if the high pressure lines will sit in the correct spot. I believe other version of the 33 rack are the same/similar to the racks that can be opened up without as much fuss so I assume the dmax rack would fit but any ideas?
    • I've never played with one, but I would expect that you are correct. That slot looks like it is intended to be used to unscrew the end, and the flats on the body would be better than grabbing it around the round bit with a pipe wrench. So, yeah, probably unscrews. You'll probably have to make a tool to drive in that slot.
