Like it says above, my car's just zapping me like a b**ch every time i get out. anybody have this problem too?

I can actually see the spark at night...it hurts like hell!! hafta bring a book to close the door with n stuff...wtf??

i used to get zapped when i wore 1 pair of shoes in particular. rubbing on the matts then getting out and touching the frame. however sometimes i still wear those shoes and it doesnt happen anymore. :confused:

yeah shoes/socks/carpet in your car are the culprets.

my friend also pointed out that in winter the air is drier which conducts electricity better

it happens to me 90% of the time i get out of my car and started happening as soon as winter set in

try this: when you get out of the car make sure you're touching something metal with your hand (don't let go), get out and make sure your two feet are firmly on the ground. close the door and you should be statically discharged.

yep, exactly CerealKiller said. when i get out of my car, i keep one hand on the quarter panel until both fee are on the ground. then no problems.

i hated the damn shocks too. someone said something about earting the charge you generate or something while driving.

someone else must know the technical explanation.

the scientific explanation must be "the harder you drive, the more you get shocked", okay?

it depends on what you wear and how long the drive is. i've noticed that 100% cotton is fine (very little chance of shock).

the worst seems to be a polyester / nylon blend (aka trousers) which for me personally causes large shocks (when I forget to discharge myself).

There's less humidity in the air in winter -> air is less conductive -> static electricity can build up without being dissipated by the humidity.

Man made fabrics are the worst.

Solution: Stop wearing the polyester jumpsuit and nylon undies or just work blue. :shake:

Here's something interesting. Women are more likely to cause an explosion while filling up petrol. This is because there are more likely to have dry skin which for some reason cause the person to be statically charged. Static electricity + fumes from fuel = sky high pie. Very odd chance but still possible.

Maybe you have dry skin? I do and I get static all the time especially during winter.

the strange thing is my car never used to shock me, i mean i never got 1 shock from it........until i read this damn thread, no lies the very next day it started booting me when i get out
