ill say it again, by far the best kit available for a GT/T :D

were they genuine items or fibreglass?

does anyone know how much the genuine plastic IMPUL side skirts for an R34 GTT cost ? I have the carmate ones installed and while the fit is good they've managed to crack them in 2 corners while fitting, leave a couple of gaps etc .. and I'm fretting everytime passengers get in/out of the car just waiting for someone to snag on the passenger sideskirts and crack it good

thats generally the case with copy kits in fibreglass.

actually come to think of it a few months ago someone on SAU was selling what he claimed was a genuine full impul kit and IIRC according to him it also was made from fibreglass (presumbably thicker and more accurate then the copies floating around) Can anyone confirm ?

  • 3 months later...

so guys what's the best deal? or should I say, 'Best Fit' from the copies?

- carmate

- J Racing

- PSI

- DMD

- empire aero

I've also heard that 'original' kits are fibreglass.

here's a link to a carbon fiber one in the US - looks bloody nice :D but $$

I'm keen to buy a full kit or at least a front bar and side skirt.

if you have a 'copy' kit installed, please post any updated comments. fitting?, cracking? or general durability? and where you purchased the kit.

Cheers!!

since you're in brissy go with DMD ..from memory they're up there too and they have a much better rep than carmate. The fittment on my carmate rar bar was perfect ..side skirts were about 90% BUT the paintjob was an absolute shocker...

cheers for the comments! the %% rating for fitting is very helpful

I'm keen to hear from anyone that has had an 34 GTT Impul kit installed / purchased from DMD or sites. more comments?

Pear

The original kits are in fibreglass. From what i know it's good quality fb and it's a direct fit compared to copies.

If you want a genuine Impul front bar pm me and i'll hook you up with the seller, assuming he's still got it. I got my side skirts off him last week and it's in a very good condition. Here's the pic after washing 10yrs dirt off the skirts :

For what it's worth, a mate of mine recently got this kit for his White 34 GT. We went with Carmate (Supply, paint & fit) as they were the only people closeby our research could find. Didn't have any issues dealing with them and the end result isn't bad, paint looks fine and the fitment is pretty good, a few minor imperfections at worst but you'd practically have to point them out to notice.

Friend and I were skeptical given the rep, but we took the gamble anyway, for us we're pretty happy with the outcome. Might get pics once the car is cleaned up.

I just bought a Impul kit and is being delivered as we speak, I will post up pix of my black R34 for everyone once its all done.

GTR wing and custom bonnet to match if all comes together.

P.S if you are happy with a job its not good enough, you drive a skyline not a VW would you buy a new car with a OK engine and still pay for a car with a perfect engine?

Neways cheers.

    • So could it be assumed it has been installed intentionally with potentially a power FC boost controller kit?
    • Had my rig on Matt's dyno at PITS the other day. After a few years between tunes I added a few sensors and swapped intercoolers. Result. 553hp at 26psi. Not bad for an FJ20 that was built in 2007. The problem.. It filled the overflow bottle on hard runs which leads me to believe the head gasket isn't sealing. I have a coolant pressure sensor which was reading cap pressure at 22psi and occasionally overrunning to 23/24 psi on deceleration after a pull. It was not spiking. It has arp2000 head studs and a cometic gasket. As its been 18 years in service, I pulled the engine out and head off. Everything looks good but we obviously have an issue. Where I'm at.. Years ago I had the same issue, I checked the stud tension and they were all over the place. Some at 60 to 70 and some up near 90. I nipped them all to 100ft lbs and this stopped the water push until now. I believe this compromised the gasket back then. What do I do? 2 options are..  1) I bought arp 625+s, which I could put in with a new gasket. Thinking Kameari this time, reassemble and try again. 2) strip the block, get fire rings machined in with copper gasket and try that. I do not want to push it more than 28 to 30psi. I think the turbo will be out by then anyway. (G30-770). My other concern is the long term ability of a copper head gasket. Are they streetable for years? I feel like a new gasket with the new studs will probably suffice, but I don't know. Any thoughts welcome and advice on copper gaskets and fire rings. Thanks!
    • I'm a fan of the JZX110, and the Aristo. Big cruiser cars, and with the factory cars, super comfortable and feel like you're driving an armchair! And the JZ motors are a pretty nice engine too, especially with some basic mods.   The import process, and the need to be able to trust people, and the fact there's so many scammers around is what ever puts me off wanting to go through that ordeal!
    • I don't care for these at all, but at least the underside looks straight and not rusty. A good basis for a long life. Many cars from Japan have been lifted with forklifts and f**ked almost irrepairably.
    • Yes, but it's not dumb or dodgy. You can build a perfectly good boost controller from a pressure reg, a relief valve (looks same same as a reg if all from Norgren or SMC, for example) and a check valve. I ran one for years. Only superceded with  EBC because I could get one for cheaps and wanted finer control.   THis mod is certainly not a sketchy boost mod, provided the boost is kept below the "spin to death" threshold of the turbos.
