Ideas for what?

Your actuator might not be on properly... not much to it (you'll see when you have a look).

Boost not generating means the gate is coming OPEN too early, which means actuator most of the time... or a boost leak/restriction somewhere perhaps

Sorry, should have been specific. I really dont know alot about the turbo workings, so what exactly should i look for? Actuator wise.

alrighty... so i put my highflow cat and jjr split dump pipe on today.

i foudn that my original cat was gutted out haha. so good to get a new one on there.

had to drill out the hole for the sensor at the back of the cat as it wouldnt fit in.

couple of my studs were broken where the dump connects to back of turbo so i'll need to get that fixed.

but for now i just went nuts with gasket goo to keep it sealed.

As for the actuator hitting i didnt get to see it physically touching when i fitted it. but as i get into higher rpm its definatly creeping.

from about 10psi to 12ish once you get over 5000ish rpm.

nothing outrageous but its there

also found out that my old o2 sensor was stuffed.

the old one would read the same voltage all the time. this one actually varies.

now the car feels much nicer and boosts a bit quicker

i just need to sought out the actuator thing. i'll probably take it off and grind it out a little.

or just go get another one. this one only went on as i had it sitting there from my old r33.

why do you bother putting the cat sensor back in at all? Mines just tucked up under the exhaust shield.

Im thinking of modding my JJR split into a non-split. IE cut the wastegat pipe out, weld up the hole at the bottom, tidy up the flange, and make the wastegate pipe similar to the HKS dump. IF it is cost effective. If not, HKS front pipe and OEM dump it is.

because i didnt have a bolt that would fit in there to stop the exhaust coming out of it. so i had to plug it up somehow :P

This is an interesting read.

I bought a split dump/front pipe combo from a trader here years ago called batmbl. it is a stainless steel work of art and cost almost $500 from memory. it has been in use for 3 years and now sits on a massive hiflow bolted to a 30det and it has never creeped infact boost used to be a dead flat line at 18psi when it was on my 20det now the 30det uses more air than the little turbs can huff so boost drops off over 5000rpm.

i was pissed when i first saw the jjr ones as they are about 1/2 the price and looked nearly identical. but this just reinforces the "you get what you pay for"

Im thinking of just getting the 3" HPI dual front pipe (any other good front pipe brands?) and 3" xforce $175? hi-flow cat and use the stock dump (still stock turbo running EBC lo=6.5psi, hi=9.5psi), then when i upgrade my turbo later with higher boost it will either be a hi-flow GCG item $1900 or a KKR430 $890? all depends on the money at the time!but leaning more towards the KKR...so when i figure that out i'll do the dump to suit!

Do you guys think i will still gain a fair bit from the 'redback' cat and stock front pipe i have now?(i currently have a Jasma Catback!)

An EBC question:

i have a Greddy Profec B Spec 2 and it holds boost fine but it does spike a couple of PSI when i smash through the gears...is this normal/anything to worry about?how do i fix it without losing boost when WOT?

Ok ive found something interesting. My turbo for the past couple of weeks has sounded different and instead of the normal 10psi it only makes it to 7 or 8 psi.

Im checking the usual things today and started with taking the cat off and dump/front pipe to see if there were any parts of the wheel in the cat (there wasnt).

Anyway i took the jjr dump/front pipe completely off and put my stock dump pipe on to see how much the actuator opened. It opens pretty much the same amount it does with the jjr dump.

I guess i was wrong with that being an issue or has nissan f'ed up as bad as jjr?

Anyway if nissan didnt think it was a problem then i guess ill keep my jjr dump/front pipe unless someone has a better thought on the matter.

    • I would just put EBC back on the "I would not use their stuff" pile and move on.
    • Can I suggest you try EBC directly again and link them to as many competitor catalogues as you can to show their listing is incorrect, eg https://dba.com.au/product/front-4000-series-hd-brake-rotor-dba42304/ If you have access to an R33 GTST VIN and your VIN, you could also use a Nissan Parts lookup like Amayama to show them the part number is different between 33 GTST and 34 GTT which may get their attention
    • So i got reply from EBC and they just this site where you can clearly see those 296mm fronts on R34 GTT. I send them photos and "quotes" that 296mm are not for 34 GTT and they are too small.     • Hi, is the HKS  Tower Bar still available ? negotiable ? 🤔
    • From there, it is really just test and assemble. Plug the adapter cables from the unit into the back of the screen, then the other side to the car harness. Don't forget all the other plugs too! Run the cables behind the unit and screw it back into place (4 screws) and you should now have 3 cables to run from the top screen to the android unit. I ran them along the DS of the other AV units in the gap between their backets and the console, and used some corrugated tubing on the sharp edges of the bracket so the wires were safe. Plug the centre console and lower screen in temporarily and turn the car to ACC, the AV should fire up as normal. Hold the back button for 3 sec and Android should appear on the top screen. You need to set the input to Aux for audio (more on that later). I put the unit under the AC duct in the centre console, with the wifi antenna on top of the AC duct near the shifter, the bluetooth antenna on the AC duct under the centre console The GPS unit on top of the DS to AC duct; they all seem to work OK there are are out of the way. Neat cable routing is a pain. For the drive recorder I mounted it near the rear view mirror and run the cable in the headlining, across the a pillar and then down the inside of the a pillar seal to the DS lower dash. From there it goes across and to one USB input for the unit. The second USB input is attached to the ECUtec OBD dongle and the 3rd goes to the USB bulkhead connected I added in the centre console. This is how the centre console looks "tidied" up Note I didn't install the provided speaker, didn't use the 2.5mm IPod in line or the piggyback loom for the Ipod or change any DIP switches; they seem to only be required if you need to use the Ipod input rather than the AUX input. That's it, install done, I'll follow up with a separate post on how the unit works, but in summary it retains all factory functions and inputs (so I still use my phone to the car for calls), reverse still works like factory etc.
