What is the motivation for people to rice out REALLY nice cars? I see them everywhere... and it almost brings tears to my eyes when I see an RX7 or Skyline on fat chromies with horrible "custom" interiors that look more suited to a porn video set.

I love the clean look of a stock s2 R33 the best out of almost all the jap import group and they seem to be targeted the heaviest by ricing...

Does anyone have any idea what possesses people into doing this, do they just want to stand out? Do they think it looks good? Or am I the only one who finds 20" chromies and bright pink cars ugly?

All cars would look all the same if everyone had the same tastes.

its funny how "ricers" actually refers to all japanese car drivers, not a particular way a car is modded

it started in the US and was used by the muscle car guys when referring to the import guys.

to me rice is when someone puts shit on their car thats serves no purpose, or to make the car look like something its not

ie: stripped out interior, rollcage, harnesses etc etc on a street car that never sees the track

kandy paint, leather trim and big rims isn't rice, its just a different style of modification

if you cant appreciate different styles of modification your not a true car enthusiast

Agree^^

Everyone has their own styling methods and tastes when putting stuff on/in their car. Some people can be a little forward with 'their' opinions on what they think suits some one else's vehicle. I personally am not a fan of chrome wheels or stickers but i dont judge.

this is wat you would call SEX-SPEC....if you notice alot of these people that do cars this way is for a certain reason...for SHOW...if you notice alot of these cars get maximum exposure such as ignition dvd,hot 4's, fast fours, and autosalon mag.....how often do you see a clean stock car on the cover of these mags....it is a different type of style......

I honestly like some sex-spec cars but i now go for that clean sleek look......i use to have 19in vault chromies on my car and cruise around with a few other sex-spec cars but i now like the whole nice street look

Agreed, I keep my 32 very understated, therefore, in my definition, not rice.

Commodore with 20" Chrystal Vaults & neons = rice

Yeah funny how that title was thrown at jap cars for pointless mods...when the funny thing is that most of the muscle cars seem to have just as many if not more stupid mods of their own like.....

Alloy drop tanks on cars that have never/will never see circuit use

Half cage in a car eg SLR 5000's - how many were fitted with half cages that never saw track duty

The old fluffy dice from the mirror-maybe a valiant/monaro thing

V8 Commodore guys removing the Rochester quadrajet and fitting a 600 holley.....Really dumb, Rochy flows 750 cfm standard

Nos stickers on cars without nos

Chev badges on a 253 premier

Monster tachos on a V8 that will only rev to 5500 rpm

Fitting a Ford 9 inch in a car that makes stuff all power

these are just some of the ridiculous things that come to mind..

Honestly the people that go on ignition DVD are pretty big wankers that just want attention ie. "Look how much money I spent on a car!"

So most people think that they just want to show off and be noticed if they're putting big chromies and rice on their car, not because they think it looks good?

whatever makes them happy...

at the end of the day its their own project on how they would think their car would look the best, on the ricer forums they probably say your cars look plain and boring..

You don't just get to go on Ignition DVD for the sake of seeking attention.

Big chromies, full on interiors....whatever. I think your overlooking the whole rice theory here. Slap a wing on a commodore then....well. Driving around with your new primer finish body kit for weeks. Installing a front mount and not bothering to put the front bar back on for month. There is a huge amount of 'rice' things people can do. But who lays down the rice law? Life would be pretty boring if we all shopped at the same store for clothes.

    • Hello!  i just finished manual swaping my r34 skyline with a r33 rb20de box(RB71C)box  When the car is running it squeaks crazy loud and it was smoking from the gearbox area. The gearbox is fine it was tested. The clutch slave cylinder seems like it doesn't fully releases the clutch. I want to ask if this noise is from the throw out bearing or could it be the clutch assembly or disk att.xFliq87Gzw6kImKBVqDebXkj0fBqymk0JaYeP3_3SlM.mp4
    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
