To be honest that was kinda expected. Course was made for smaller more nimble cars. I believe an S2000 holds the record for the touge ??

I wana see that same race on tsakuba and then we will see who gets there A#@ handed to them :geek:

Yeah...i kinda agree with you.

Still, it was a good comparo when you think about it.

I suppose on one hand it shows the old FD has plenty of life in it yet - it is in my mind one of the finest most balanced chassis in the world and taking into account it was created more than 12 years ago, makes it something pretty special.

What is it with Mazda and massive chassis' anyway?

Horses for courses as they say and without doubt and of no real surprise, the GTR isnt the horse for that course...

overall i thought the gtr looked poised and balanced, benefits of awd i guess. while the rx7 had a very loose arse.

was a good watch

Thats just 480hp 4wd versus 450 Rwd... it couldnt be helped.

Plus the fact that the Rx7 was 500kaygees lighter...

I think the Roox was balanced and poised by the way but i have to say Tsuchiya manhandled the Rotor...

Im almost sertain Tsuchiya wouldve been closer if the drivers were swapped and yep, the result would have been different.

balanced?? the fd rx7 has always been praised for having the most balanced handling

Im not suprised it owned the GTR... its always had better handling than the previous GTR's and as for a bigger track like tsukuba... what makes u think the GTR would win???

its still heavier, and slower.. sure it might be faster off the mark.. but once theyre movin, theres no stopping a tuned RX7.. i know, ive had one and even thou it had about 60kw less than my GTR, it was MUCH quicker

BumbleB, i said I thought the FD was and still is one of the finest driving chassis' in the world already, didn't i?

I still stand though, on the fact that, if the drivers were reversed, the outcome would have been different.

Interesting, even though the RX7 is light and powerful with plenty of corner speed, i would have expected the GTR to be quicker with all its gissmos. It went damn close and i think you can tell by the steering inputs that if they did the run 10 times the GTR would be consistantly quicker, even if the outright quickest lap going to the RX7.

So, seems despite all the reviews, Nissan still have not been able to engineer out the cars weight, the fact it doesnt feel big and heavy is the next best thing

RX7 is old school mate. Doesn't matter how balance the RX7 is, it still uses a normal manual gearbox and is RWD. Wait till you see a "fully" tuned R35 - then we'll see if there's anything that can stop it!

Noticed in the video that when Tsuchiya was starting behind the GTR, he kept very close right at the beginning, whereas when the GTR started behind the RX7, the driver of the GTR was nowhere as near to the back end of that RX7 as Tsuchiya was to the GTR. If drivers were swapped, im sure it would've been a different outcome. And to think that it takes a very well tuned RX7 to marginally beat a basically stock GTR says a lot about the GTR.

What makes me think the gtr will win ??? a 1 min dead lap time at tsukuba !!!! Not saying a RX7 couldn't break a minute i know a few have, but just not that RX7.

The touge deffinatly favours RWD cars as the fastest around it are RWD... Where at Tsukuba the top 10 cars are all pretty much 4wd, GTR's and EVO's rule tsukuba. :P

    • I am yet to see anyone ever regret a quaife or helical. ...other than drifting/skidpan duties. I kind of want to upgrade my factory helical with a Quaife (but really it's not ultimately that different, and is a MASSIVE UNDERTAKING), that's how good the hype is about them, that I want to try them 'just to see'
    • D2 and Ksport are essentially the same thing and basically just generic Taiwanese manufacture. Better than ChinaBay crap, but... not top shelf. Öhlins have got to be some of the best dampers around, so likely to be a good option. It's going to get to the point though where I suggest you buy from Oz. We have at least 2x excellent options here. If I were you though, I'd be talking to KW about doing something for the R33. There's bugger all difference between that and the 32. In GTR land, anyway.
    • KW only offers a set for the R32 GTR. Popular options are D2 racing, Ksport or Öhlins. I have a D2 Racing coilover set, though I don't know for sure which one.
    • Well, the good news is you have more than one very good option for new coilovers in and around your country. Worth the drive over to KW to talk about GTR stuff.
    • Fair enough, I am in no way a tire expert so I'm not familiar with all the terms and conditions. I'll definitely note down the AD09 to potentially try in the future. Rain is not too big of a concern for now as I will probably only drive in the rain when I have to. And considering I still lack experience driving the GTR I'd more than likely take it easy too. I have coilovers in the car but as I barely got to drive so far I never bothered to even check if they are adjustable haha. The suspension is almost entirely old and worn as well so I suppose when I eventually fix that in the future that would make a huge difference.
