Yeah, a lot of people charge stupid money for it...craziness. That's what prompted me to buy one of these.

A mate of mine had a full custom loom made for his 180sx from a hot rod workshop. Cost him under 1k. This tells you that people are not really charging you an hourly rate when they quote 2-3k. Unfortunately they didn't have time to make me one up as they'd just lost an employee.

After knowing this I'd refuse to pay someone that sort of money, even if I could afford it. I know it can be done for under 1k if you find someone who knows what they're doing.

You may be better using one of these painless looms man, I think it'll work out cheaper than making it entirely from scratch. Andrew can take a look at this one when it arrives and see if it's suitable. I spoke with Sam on it, and he said it was exactly what I'd be after

Yeah RPM and I were discussing a painless item but it was dismissed in my application for whatever reason.

Bit of an update for those interested.

Allthough the total cost has not been worked out yet (mainly how many hours of labour) i can get the wire for $2-$2.50 a meter depending on colour.

I will also have two options for the loom either with existing plugs (cut the plug off the old loom and solder new wire onto it) or comletely new loom and plugs, the expensive one.

I am possibily going to do this (or start) this month depending on work so i should have a total cost relativly soonish and i dont think at this stage it will not top the 1k mark (i hope).

Also i have attached a spec sheet on the wire for interest sake. I will be using the 7 strand/0.2mm wire for my car and look at the weights. A 100m roll weighs only 410g :(

teflonwire_rsPDF.pdf

The spec's i have are for the 3.5A/6A 250V wire there is also a 500V wire but i think its over kill.

I will also work out a group buy/deal for sau users.

Cheers

Ross

Dane let me know when your finished. I'm going to be minimising a loom in the next month for a gtr which I believe will involve making most of it from scratch and using old plugs. Might even record the time it takes to give some of you an idea.

I thought everybody was full of it when talking about loom weights but they weigh a fair bit as I have a gtr sitting in the backyard now. Don't know about 25kg but maybe just under 20kg by feel.

Shall do mate. I wouldn't have thought they weighed that much either, but going by this loom which is just the bare essentials and it weighs in at 14lbs (with switchboard and fusebox) it wouldn't surprise me that they weigh as much as they do.

There is a lot of wiring you dont need too. Looking at mine on the weekend and once the hicas is removed there is only the fuel pump and tail lights that you need to the back, only about 10 wires i think. Less than half of what is there now anyway.

Anyupdates on your one Dane??

Cheers

Ross

Yeah, I'd love to be able to do it too!

Ross: Agreed mate, that's what prompted me to just do it. There's HEAPS of wiring going to the back of the car now and it can all go. I ripped out my pop up headlights, so I won't need to wire them up either. But haven't made a start on it yet as it's off getting a new seatmount made. Should be back this week then we can make a start.

  • 2 weeks later...

Just to keep this alive and up to date i will start removing the looms this weekend and stripping them down. I have done a bit of a look around over the last few weeks and have just decided on all the switchs, plugs etc that ill be using so it wont be much longer before i have a final product (if all goes to plan).

Cheers

Ross

    • looking for some help and maybe some insight on others experience with a new LSD. R34 GT ran and drive beautifully, but always alot of grip loss due to the open R200 rear end, so I just installed a new 1.5 LSD way into the stock open R200 for a ER34. Simple. Everything seemed right. I test drove for the first time this weekend. as I started to back out the garage the first time slowly with tires straight it sounded and felt like I had a loose or half disconnected drive shaft...that was clucking around loose and shaking entire vehicle, and making it feel like the trans clutch was spontaneously slipping then grabbing very roughly while just letting out pedal slowly. I backed it out went to pull forward with the same noise, shake and slip grab feeling with hesitation, I turned the tires to back out more and then pulled ahead some same thing but worst because of added wheel resistance (which that I expected) puzzled … pulling it back in checking everything over and finding nothing wrong, I tried it the next day. same thing, couldn’t believe how it shook everything again making a terrible noise and making it feel like the trans clutch was slipping and grabbing, but I got it out of garage into the driveway, got it straight, drove forward and then reveres a few times in a straight line everything shaking , causing what felt like clutch slip and grab every time, sounded like right behind front driver tire and I could feel it in the floor board with my feet,... worst right when beginning to let clutch pedal out to engage slightly, shuttering and sounding terrible along the way…I managed to slowly get down the road, babying it the whole way, once I was rolling (out of 1st) seemed to be better and between shifts, then clutch felt closer to normal…not slip/ grab etc., but back down to any stop, straight road or turning, same thing. Made no difference if all tires were straight or if I was turning. All other gauge read out correct. with in 2 miles as planned I reached the empty parking lot and performed the break in procedure that came with lsd, essentially to drive in a figure 8 a bunch.  Did this, binding chattering, and shaking the car the whole way. I drove it back home seemed somewhat normal once I was in straight line and past 10 mph or so, and I know it will “bind” on corners and cause some tires squeal when turning especially from a stop, but when I begin to move it still causes what feels like the trans clutch to slip and jerk badly as well as shaking the entire car, and sounds terrible, that I didn’t expect. I used the fluid they supplied with LSD kit and did the breaking, planning to change fluid as they suggest after breaking, but wondering will it get smoother or less aggressive with use? maybe a 1.5 is just too aggressive for normal road driving?   I have a LSD that I put in my 71 cuda when I restored it, with amazing smooth , quite yet effective results. Different style LSD but that ones a joy to drive. maybe expecting too much from this R200?

    • Hello!  i just finished manual swaping my r34 skyline with a r33 rb20de box(RB71C)box  When the car is running it squeaks crazy loud and it was smoking from the gearbox area. The gearbox is fine it was tested. The clutch slave cylinder seems like it doesn't fully releases the clutch. I want to ask if this noise is from the throw out bearing or could it be the clutch assembly or disk att.xFliq87Gzw6kImKBVqDebXkj0fBqymk0JaYeP3_3SlM.mp4
