hey guys

i just got few quick questions, my mate has just built a 400awkw gtr with a t04z and he took me for a spin,

i was pretty amazed he had full boost by 4500rpm (26psi), and the thing felt so aggressive, the boost just came on hard,

now my question is will twins come on that hard cause, the feeling was unbelievable,

i was thinking hks 2530s, the car will be a weekend street car and will see the drag strip 2 or 3 time a year

2530's wont come on as hard as that T04Z.

Has your mate got a stroker of anysort? That may explain the earlish spool up of the T04Z.

What are your engine specs... It will make things a bit easier.

do u know wat size exhaust housing his got on this t04z? i was so close to running a T04z on my GTR as well even bought the turbo and i went with the divided twin scroll .70 exhaust housing option for that extra response

i ended up just down sizing the turbo and going with a GT35 series turbo, it wasnt able to make the same amount of power as the T04z would but i wasnt looking for 400kw so it didnt matter

little confused here, the gt35 will go 400rwkw... t04z is 450rwkw+ territory

way I see it is the 2530's sit somewhere in between the gt35 and t04z, either way its going to make stomping power and be making boost (ie making power) somewhere between 4300 and 5000 depending on your setup

So what you are saying is you like the TRANSITION from lack of power to lots of power? Not the lots of power ITSELF?

Then an even bigger turbo would be better, even LESS power then a much more potent transition to even MORE power. That would feel better to you?

Personally I prefer progressive power as I find the sharp transition makes the car very hard to drive fast. So the 2530's would be my choice, as they have been for many years.

Each to his own.

Im going to be a smart arse so dont take this too seriously...

If you dont want heaps of power but like that serious boost kick, fit 2530's or similar and build in a valve that redirects all boost until it closes at say 5000rpm. So your turbos will still build boost as the car revs, but it all goes to waste, then at 5000rpm bang, instant 18psi or what ever you want. Probably loads of problems in what ive just described, but would be one hell of a kick going from no power to serious power.

GT2530s dont kick hard??? how many of u guys have seen the Mines GTR in action??

as far as i could see.. .having the think rev from 4k to 9k in like a split second is pretty fkn hard...

the dude is like into 5th gear screamin towards the redline in no time!

responsiveness and power.. id got 2530.. but im after a lil more power so im going gt2876r x2 :miner:

    • The alloy coolant reservoir has a sight glass, so as long as I can see coolant in the sight glass it's GTG, as for PS, it isn't anything catastrophic if it gets low, and as it hasn't lost a drop since I have owned the car I cannot see it being an issue, even after putting the "big block" 2.5 in....LOL The only time it gets slightly messy is at oil changes, as the oil filter sits above the frame, and I need to use a plastic bottle with its bottom cut off to catch the flow when loosening the filter
    • Good on you for taking on the job, but it is a big one. Even if you have bolt on manifold and turbo, you will need: Post throttle pressure source to boost controller to wastegate (and FPR, and ECU/MAP sensor) Pre throttle pressure source to top of BOV(s) Oil feed - you can take that from the standard port in the middle of the block Oil return to block under the turbo - this is much trickier than it seems to route a decent/wide pipe past the manifold. You really can't use rubber hose because it is way too hot there, and also the oil out of the turbo core is a bit frothy so it needs to have a decent diameter Water feed - you can take that from the standard port in the rear of the block. Water return - mine runs to a T into the heater box return, just make sure you don't create a high point making bleeding hard. All of those lines should use 200 series style teflon braided hose with heat shielding because everything needs to be routed past the manifold. Also a turbo beanie is a really good idea to minimise the chance of the car catching fire (under bonnet lining in particular) You also need to decide a cam cover breathing solution as well, will you vent externally via a catch can (probably illegal) or return to the intake (plumbing required and can oil up everything over time) Keep in mind the intake and exhaust piping in the engine bay will be custom so you either need to be able to fab ally and steel or have someone you can get a car that isn't running to. Get the wideband fitting welded into the dump pipe at the same time. Also, just my opinion, a screamer pipe attracts attention and doesn't add power, I'd plumb it back if you want to be allowed to keep the car on the road. BTW do you know anything about how healthy the motor is, and what power you are targeting? Doubling or tripling the factory power on an unknown motor is a little risky. Also fuel system will need some attention (pumps, high current hanger, direct power and earth feed, injectors etc)
