Car: R32 GTST

Mods: RB30DET GT30r .82 @ 15psi; GTR injectors; RB25DE head ported polished & valve deshroud.

Driving style: Brisk acceleration always on a little boost with the occasional (at least once per drive) WOT

Driving conditions: Local 50-80km/h

Fuel brand: Shell 98

Ltr's for a full tank: 50litres

KM's per tank: 450km's (RB20DET used to get 470km's when it was running 1bar on the std turbo and std ecu)

New O2 sensor, New Z32 afm, recently flowed and cleaned injectors, no vac leaks and just a good tune.

Just dropped a set of 265/263 (221deg @ 0.050") 9mm cams in... Will be interesting to watch fuel economy plummet.

110 Inlet LCA; 115 exh LCA; 112.5 LSA so it idles smooth but just a bit deeper/throbs more and louder.

hahaha... As they say.. Keeping it real.. There's next to no difference between the turbo's and N/A's unless your constantly up the turbo of which on the street isn't all that often.

Nothing wrong with the dark side.

I'm waiting for some one to post a progress thread of a mean rb30de n/a or rb25de n/a - 12:1 static comp running on E85 loping like nothing on earth; thats really why I'm lurking. :(

Mods: extractors and high flow cat - everything else stock/genuine.

Driving style: Soccer mum :whistling:

Driving conditions: 90% City 10% highway

Fuel brand: Shell 98 majority of the time, sometimes Safeway 98

Ltr's for a full tank: 65L (stock tank)

KM's per tank: not sure - I always fill up when i reach 1/4 tank. However I can usually do 11.8L per 100KM.

BEST consumption: 9.8L/100 (city) and 8.8L/100(highway)

WORST consumption: 14.8L/100 (city - I have no idea why?????) 9.2L/100 (highway)

Notes: Car has stock rear spoiler and weather shields, which could cause extra drag. 17" GTT wheels are wider than the stock 16" - this can also cause more drag - Tires are inflated to factory spec 36PSI.

Car:1988 R31 Skyline GX

Mods:K&N Pod, stock exhaust with a cannon + hotdog, 3degrees advanced timing

Driving style: 65% granny, 35% boy racer

Driving conditions: 90% city, 10% highway

Fuel brand: caltex 91 (or whicherver is the lowest rating)

Ltr's for a full tank: tank is 63L, always takes ~50L to fill up

KM's per tank: 400-450kms out of an auto which wont go into 4th gear until the engine is warmed up

Car: R33 Series 2 GTS

Mods:None

Driving style: Normal with occasional launch

Driving conditions: City

Fuel brand: V-power

Ltr's for a full tank: 65L

KM's per tank: 600-650km

Ltr's per 100km: 10-10.4L

Car: '94 R33 GTS25

Mods: Catback exhaust

Driving style: boy racer, under 3k

Driving conditions: country town

Fuel brand: Shell V-Power (or BP Ultimate when shell shuts :D )

Ltr's for a full tank: 65ltrs

KM's per tank: 350-400

however, in other conditions

Car: '94 R33 GTS25

Mods: Catback exhaust

Driving style: granny

Driving conditions: straight highway (cruising at 100ks in 5th, 3k revs (drone-tastic))

Fuel brand: BP Ultimate

Ltr's for a full tank: 65ltrs

KM's per tank: 700-750

interesting comparison here i rekn, more people should post up figures with comparisons like these :)

another thing, my fuel economy improved around town once id done a big long trip

Mods: exhourst, crazy timing, no cat and a pod...

Driving style: bita granny but mostly boy racer

Driving conditions: mountian range\city

Fuel brand: bp 98

Ltr's for a full tank: about 55ish L's

KM's per tank: 350km's maybe.. other day it got 670 with grandpa driving with minimal squirts

put it this way, how much power does your de 400/450kms per tank make? then ask the same of a det motor.

most skylines will make 400 to 450 kms per tank if it is nursed, but if thats all ya gonna do go buy a toyta echo. the turbo is there to make it fun.

my de makes 378bhp and does 300km to 45 litre of v power and shed loads of rubber smoke,caned all the way ,,,sorry forgot to say its a de+t but it still makes more power than a det at 10psi boost

Well off coarse it will.. you've still got your high compression pistons then a turbo - not to mention you car is no longer a DE mate..

its still a de its just got +t after it, its like saying its not gtr engine if you put a single turbo on it or its not a det engine if you put 2 turbo's on it,another angle it can't be a de if you put a supercharger on it or even nos.you could say its not an na any more but whatever you do to a de its still a de because thats just an engine model number/letters

A lot of us drive off boost often... mines turbo and i get 12L/100km so ~500km to a tank. Its all in how you drive it.

this might seem weird but sometimes i find that if i go on boost every now and then i actually get more kms out of it rather than just driving off boost all the time. :)

So, just to keep the NA boys happy with there good fuel economy.

Yes, that fuel economy is why as of tomorrow night, it won't have been driven for 6 weeks, and why it has also only been started for around 15 seconds a week ago.

Goes in for a tune in just over a week hopefully.

    • As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year. 
    • I would put a fuel pressure gauge between the filter and the fuel rail, see if it's maintaining good fuel pressure at idle going up to the point when it stalls. Do you see any strange behavior in commanded fuel leading up to the point when it stalls? You might have to start going through the service manual and doing a long list of sensor tests if it's not the fuel system for whatever reason.
    • Hi,  Just joined the forum so I could share my "fix" of this problem. Might be of use to someone. Had the same hunting at idle issue on my V36 with VQ35HR engine after swapping the engine because the original one got overheated.  While changing the engine I made the mistake of cleaning the throttle bodies and tried all the tricks i could find to do a throttle relearn with no luck. Gave in and took it to a shop and they couldn't sort it. Then took it to my local Nissan dealership and they couldn't get it to idle properly. They said I'd need to replace the throttle bodies and the ecu probably costing more than the car is worth. So I had the idea of replacing the carbon I cleaned out with a thin layer of super glue and it's back to normal idle now. Bit rough but saved the car from the wreckers 🤣
    • After my last update, I went ahead with cleaning and restoring the entire fuel system. This included removing the tank and cleaning it with the Beyond Balistics solution, power washing it multiple times, drying it thoroughly, rinsing with IPA, drying again with heat gun and compressed air. Also, cleaning out the lines, fuel rail, and replacing the fuel pump with an OEM-style one. During the cleaning process, I replaced several hoses - including the breather hose on the fuel tank, which turned out to be the cause of the earlier fuel leak. This is what the old fuel filter looked like: Fuel tank before cleaning: Dirty Fuel Tank.mp4   Fuel tank after cleaning (some staining remains): Clean Fuel Tank.mp4 Both the OEM 270cc and new DeatschWerks 550cc injectors were cleaned professionally by a shop. Before reassembling everything, I tested the fuel flow by running the pump output into a container at the fuel filter location - flow looked good. I then fitted the new fuel filter and reassembled the rest of the system. Fuel Flow Test.mp4 Test 1 - 550cc injectors Ran the new fuel pump with its supplied diagonal strainer (different from OEM’s flat strainer) and my 550cc injectors using the same resized-injector map I had successfully used before. At first, it idled roughly and stalled when I applied throttle. Checked the spark plugs and found that they were fouled with carbon (likely from the earlier overly rich running when the injectors were clogged). After cleaning the plugs, the car started fine. However, it would only idle for 30–60 seconds before stalling, and while driving it would feel like a “fuel cut” after a few seconds - though it wouldn’t fully stall. Test 2 – Strainer swap Suspecting the diagonal strainer might not be reaching the tank bottom, I swapped it for the original flat strainer and filled the tank with ~45L of fuel. The issue persisted exactly the same. Test 3 – OEM injectors To eliminate tuning variables, I reinstalled the OEM 270cc injectors and reverted to the original map. Cleaned the spark plugs again just in-case. The stalling and “fuel cut” still remained.   At this stage, I suspect an intermittent power or connection fault at the fuel pump hanger, caused during the cleaning process. This has led me to look into getting Frenchy’s fuel hanger and replacing the unit entirely. TL;DR: Cleaned and restored the fuel system (tank, lines, rail, pump). Tested 550cc injectors with the same resized-injector map as before, but the car stalls at idle and experiences what feels like “fuel cut” after a few seconds of driving. Swapped back to OEM injectors with original map to rule out tuning, but the issue persists. Now suspecting an intermittent power or connection fault at the fuel pump hanger, possibly cause by the cleaning process.
