Right now my car is a 89 r32 Gts.

Now my question is, what would i need in order to get a Turbo put in my car( "things that need to be added or changed in my car"). Cheers in advance :)

And money isn't a problem for me.

cbf buying a new car :) cuz just bought the car like a month ago :P

There is a bit of work involved, turbo, oil/water lines, cooler, manifold(s), ecu, tunning, exhaust etc..

If money isn't an issue just go to a local workshop in your state and see if they can help you out.

Jesse

cbf?...lol why didnt you just buy a turbo then a month ago?

heres the two options that i see

A: you put your car up for sale, avoid all the headaches and still have a car to drive till it gets sold

B: put your new car off the road for a while, pump money into it, source all the parts needed and still end up with a car that wasnt really engineered as a turbo depending on how far you go.

was a learner a month ago =/

I would say putting a whole new RB20det would be easier than turboing the rb20de and if your gunna go that far may aswell put in a RB25 or 26. There is too much hastle trying to convert a non turbo to a turbo. Just sell your car and buy a turbo. Saves alot of headaches

If you love the car that much and money is not a issue then go right ahead.

(BUT we are here to suggest to you that there is other options to make you life a little easier I guess...)

OPTION 1

The things you will need to turbo your R32 GTS will depend on how much boost you want to run. Here is a quick overall rundown...

You might have to strengthen the internals for example forge pistons. Then I believe you will have to alter the compression ratio, re tune/ new ECU / Dyno and fine tune.

Modify you exhaust manifold / fit a turbo manifold to fit the turbo

Larger exhaust

High flow air intake

Install an intercooler, make room for piping

New fueling system, injectors and fuel pump might need upgrading

Use high quality spark plugs

Use a different type of engine oil, one that is suited for turbocharged car, to what you are using at the moment to suite your N/A car

The car goes quicker now, you had better stop quicker too = Upgrade braking system, atleast to high quality brake pads. Also if you want, upgrade to larger disks and calipers. R32 brakes were never up to race standard untill the V-Spec II with Brembos.

You would probley start taking corners a lot faster = Upgrade your suspension, lower the car, install a strut brace so it locks the suspension towers to its maximum stability point. Upgrade your wheels and upgrade the tyres.

To put all the power at the wheels you need to upgrade your clutch and again depending on the amount of boost you want to run, you need a stronger gearbox.

You can't just pull horse power out of the air, something has to give (Give and Take) One thing leads to another. No such thing as cheap horse power.

OPTION 2

Source a RB20DET OR if you want, a RB25DET (for that extra 500cc you gain a bit more torque) OR a RB26DETT for a whole new characteristic type of car, from a half cut and do the engine conversion.

Atleast the engine work is done, its just a matter of fitting everything in the right place. As for the RB25DET and RB26DETT, you might have to modify afew engine fittings / mounts in order for it to fit probly. Make sure everything is welded in probley.

OPTION 3

Trade in or sell you R32 GTS and buy a R32 GTS-T or GTR

dude"shakes head", your meant to ask these questions before you buy the car....

atleast take the club members advice, sell it and buy a gtst, you'll be better of financially later on with less trouble.

Pop your boot, make sure you got a flat surface, place desired turbo then close boot.

Your car now has a Turbo in it.

Good chance the cost of turboing your car will far exceed the amount you paid for your car.

and after all of that he'll still have those massive N/A brakes :woot:

Added to that...

It costs only $95 to see a hypnotherapist who can help you believe that the rear-end turbo is actually working !!

No offence to hypnotherapists - I help patients to stop smoking every day.

Cheers.

    • Depending on how long the car sat it is very possible for injectors to be stuck open or closed, I'd get them cleaned and flow tested. Other than that, obviously when the loom changes and the car doesn't start any more....the loom is suspect so some tracing / comparing may be required
    • Harness is for a s1 Rb25det, and it is engine and lower harness.  the old harness had broken off plugs and was in very rough condition/exposed wires and splices etc. it is not able to be put back on the car, I could visually inspect to see if they had rewired any pins on the ecu plug. The fuel pump definitly isn’t turning off it’s an external pump and very loud you can hear it. Will look at the other harness tonight, am also going to pull the fuel rail and watch the injectors spray, will update here with what I find. Pretty sure at this point it has to be something to do with injectors because car will fire up on starting fluid and cas is clicking the Injectors. Fuel pressure is steady 43psi
    • Check the injectors flow evenly, and are actually flowing what you and the ECU think they should be flowing. If it's starting up on starter fluid, you have a fuel issue. Is it possible under cranking your fuel pump is turning off?   The harness you replaced, is that the whole engine harness? Do yourself a test, and drop the old harness on and plug it into the Z32 ECU. It's possible they've wired things different. From memory S1 to S2 is different in RB25 and you may have a wrong loom
    • I haven’t pulled the injectors to watch them spray yet but they are clicking from the cas and all of the spark plugs are wet with fuel. I’ve thought the cylinders were being flooded from the beginning and was hoping fuel pressure would fix it. Tonight I am going to pull the rail and watch the injectors spray. Don’t know how to test/diagnose if the plugs are firing in correct sequence but that should be a timing thing and as far as timing goes my car still has the half moon for the cas can only install it 1 way. And my mechanical timing is 100% correct I posted photos above. Confirmed with the balancer on and off.
