hey guys,

did a search and couldnt find a topic on this anywhere,

i thought i would give u a heads up about fake takata racing harnesses on ebay, we have just bought a harness and it turned out to be fake so we are reporting it to ebay,

ways you can tell if its fake, 7 cross stitches instead of 4, takata corporation on the belt, im pretty sure well at least with late model 1's that it will only have TAKATA no corporation after/under it, the release button, on the fake it will have 3 allen key bolts, real 1 is smooth with no bolts, most fakes will expire in 2010 aswell,

Bit of trivia... Takata were the first in the world to introduce the 5 point harness to racing in 1965...

Too many crew flying through windscreens and whatnot in that day...

There is only one guy selling them on Ebay, 'driftinsider' is the name of the seller, he reckons he got his stock from UP GARAGE in Japan and theyre genuine. If theyre fake and not old stock made before the TAKATA range update in early 2006, then theyre pretty good fake copies.

TAKATA had a product update in 2006 and how do we know that these so-called fakes arent left overs that seem to be expiring soon so theyre getting rid of them cheap ?

Im not sure myself so Ive reported it to Ebay as well. Im claimin it under 'Item recieved is different to one shown in listing' as the one he sent me has 'Corporation' under it and the one in the listing's pic with the naked girl hasnt.

BE AWARE! www.Performance-wise.com sells fake Takata Harnesses!!! They advertise for $340 +postage and so I bought one from them and it arrived yesterday and when I opened it up I thought it didnt look right, so I done a search on these forums and checked on yahoo and sure enough I have all of the tell tale signs of a fake!!! :)

  • Seven stitching instead of four
  • "Takata Corporation" instead of only "TAKATA"
  • Expires in 2010
  • Has the three small black allen key bolts on the release

So everyone/anyone, DO NOT buy the Takata Harnesses from www.Performance-wise.com!!! They are fake and come from Hong Kong!

I have already emailed Paul from performance-wise but no reply! Surprise, surprise!!!

Cheers,

Ebay is not good for anything anymore...You can't sell stuff without some tosser scammer trying to buy goods with stolen info, and buying is not any better with knockoff parts flooding the market place...Thanks for the info!

I know Performance-wise's response, and your agreement were lost in the forum crash....so to clarify when you bought it to their attention you received a full refund. I think its very possible for a trader to not be aware one of the products they were supplied is false, and all they could ever do is put it right when it is brought to their attention.

    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
    • Yeah mate, never miss it.
    • Any going to watch World Time Attack at SMSP this year?
    • Appreciate the correction on the "ground", that will make a huge difference to looking at this. That makes complete sense about AF70/AF71 which is what I had come down to being the issue, one of these. I'll have another look in the ignition wiring when I get a chance next week. I'll also make up a jumper wire for running that AF73 test.  ECU is fine, relay itself is fine, pump harness is fine and the pump itself is fine. I am going to upgrade the Walbro 255 anyway with a DW300 I have since I need to replace the fuel sender and I'm going to upgrade the FPR with my chasebays kit ready for new plenum/injectors/dbw, but I'll get this working first. That's why this is so frustrating.
