Agreed...

I might have to give Paul a bell, come this time next year for a 26, or 26/30 build come this time next year if local options are no good.

Yeah if its a basic rebuild with nothing tricky (block grouting, port work, stroker etc) i can get them done in 4 weeks...6 tops. Ive seen shops taking 10 months over here and charging around $40 000...its highway robbery!!

every workshop would love a 40k engine job

however there are some people who arent after 700+hp

btw top racing wanted 13k for a rb25 rebuild (basic rebuild)

cp pistons

eagle rods

n1 oil pump

gasket kit

acl bearings

parts were around 5.5k and he said machine work was around 2.5k

that leaves labour to assemble engine/put in car at 5k?

^^^ $5k to assemble an engine and install in a car is cheap mate!

I am getting quoted over that to fit cams, cam cover baffle kit, cam cup stud kit, evc, pfc, water pump, timing belt etc, manifolds, dumps, turbos, fuel pump and injectors on a 33 GTR and change fluids.... oh that includes a tune of course.

Speak to people over east and they are talking $3k tops... Would be cheaper for me to put the car on a truck tranporter to Sydney and back but thhe risk of damage in transit aint worth it I reckon.

At this stage I am looking at going with x-speed who are pricey but I know the job will be done right the first time. UNLESS anyone here has other ideas??

my opinion is to go and check out ALL the big name workshops first. Dont ring or email but rather go down and talk to them. A few places thought i was bullshit or rather a timewaster. While others didnt even return my repeated phone calls. One particular place i waited 2 whole months for a quote but NEVER called me back!!! When i went to top racing i knew it was the right place. I suggest instead of listening to others ( even though nearly all would never of had a rebuild before) go and see yourself.

well I might take that on board, load the boot up with all my crap and go driving around to the various places to get a quote in the flesh to install and tune....

problem is I just found out my car which I thought was booked on the 29 July boat, for some reason did not make the boat and is STILL in japan.....auction was 28 June :D

My prices start at $4K for 'basic' rebuild including machining and head service...plus parts. I also charge $1.5K to R & R the engine. $2500 for machining on a basic rebuild is excessive by almost $1000 if it doesn't include porting or fitting of new valve guides. Some of the bills ive seen from other workshops over here are unbelieveable. One totalled over $28,000 for a RB26 build and a gearbox overhaul. This bill was labour only and included no parts...the total bill exceeded $40,000. I could build the whole bloody car for a $28,000 labour build....some of these guys need locking up!

I found a place today to remove and refit the engine for me. My usual play shed is full of junk ATM so have to pay some one to do it.

$750 so I hope he knows what he is doing.

i dont think 5k is cheap to assemble and install an engine into a car

a couple of engine builders have quoted me 1k~ to assemble the engine

so thats 4k to put it in?

a normal workshop rate is $90 an hour

thats 44.4 hours

i highly doubt it would take 5 working days to fit an engine in

Just chase up a new engine then work on the price for fitting it separately, I know of a new Nur motor that just landed and it was the same price as places charge to rebuild one (freight and duty included).

The workshop fitting the engine rebuilds motors them self but even they see the viability in chasing up a new one in Japan especially on an RB26.

Just a tip mate. Most workshops get the blocks and heads sent away to engine builders. Why not go to the source and speak to them about assembling a motor if you provide the parts bought online you will save yourself some cash in the long run. In regards to getting the motor out find some friends or family to help or source someone cheap.

Also with workshops you'll find if you bring your own parts the labour might be higher in the case of you purchasing everything from them because they generally make some money on the parts around 30% ~.
