Eoi - Amec Race Car Experience - You Drive!

Recommended Posts

I have been thinking about this for a little while.

Just wondering whether people would be interested in this concept.

YOU get to drive an AMEC built 400KW 300ZX race car. For most people, building their own beast is either financially impossible or too time consuming. We are thinking of building a 300ZX AMEC race car (mark 2) for the purpose of giving people the opportunity to see what its like having 400KW under the foot around Queensland Raceway.

Basically you would get a full afternoon of sprints either at Sat Afternoon Sprints or Top Gear Sprints.

We are thinking at offering this for maybe $500 which gets you 15-20 laps.

QR is a safe track with heaps of run off, and the chances of someone rolling a low centre of gravity 300 is quite small. I have come off the exit of turn 1 at 140 clicks onto the infield grass done a 720 - unscathed.

Thoughts?

hmmmff. I'd rather a 400kw skyline, with a true 'racecare' attitude about it! Roll cage, buzzing fuel pump, lumpy cams, barking 5nch exhaust and slicks.. I dont know anybody who takes a 300ZX seriously...

I love these people that think a 300ZX is not a serious race car. They obviously dont hang around motor sport or circuit racing.

lets see how serious a 300ZX is as a race car. Unique Autosports 300ZX fastest car at Nissan Datsun Nationals 2005 Wakefield Park, and 2007 Phillip Island. My 300ZX not far behind in both events.

Also Unique Autosports 300ZX 3rd at Autosalon circuit racing challenge at Wakefield Park, and 6th at Superlap at Oran Park which featured THE fastest circuit racing cars in Australia.

My 300ZX won the 2007 Queensland Raceway Sat afternoon sprint series in Road 8 category and the car is consistently in the top 3 fastest cars on the day if its not the fastest.

Steve Millen's 800HP VG30DETT twin turbo so unbeatable in 1994 US IMSA championship the motor was banned similar to how Australia banned the Skyline GTRs at Bathurst.

so take the 300ZX VERY seriously my friend.

sounds good, i dont care if it was a 400kw push bike...

400kw is 400kw and any car with that amount of power is gonna be fun... :)

AMEN brother :D

PS I guarantee ANYONE who gets to drive this car will have a massive grin from ear to ear after their first 5 lap session!!!

+11ty, I miss having a car with some horsepower :D A stocko 33 goes ok-ish I suppose but meh lol. Mind you I'm not sure about a 400kw pushbike being fun, I've heard of/seen bikes that make that and they'd have you screaming in spittle-flecked joy/terror I reckon before they were "fun" :)

But anyway I think this is a great idea! I've never driven a 300ZX but I've heard they're fairly tail-happy, you reckon people are likely to tie themselves in knots? I know QR has plenty of runoff but I also know of at least three cars that have been written off out there, no doubt there are plenty more I'm not aware of so it *is* possible to have a decent stack out there. I'm not trying to put you off, but make sure that your good intentions don't end up costing you heaps :D

Yeah if i were cashed up i would seriously consider it. However its a tight market, heaps of other drives schools out there.

Probably not good for someone who has never driven qld raceway before as well! 400kw's is a lot under the foot and the last thing they need to is to be is in a quick car with few skills and slower cars on the track.

As I was trying to say the other day before the site went offline, this sounds like a great idea. I went off the whole racing thing recently, because I couldn't be f*cked keeping and maintaining a car that gets used for little else. Motorsport is an expensive hobby, and if you can go out there knowing that you won't have to pay towing costs, or costs for fixing any breakages, then I am all for it.

$500 is a bargin for this. Costs me more than that to do a track day in my car, once you add entry, tyes, fuel, brakes and wear and tear.

I did an a track day at PI in M3's supplied and that was about $1200 which i think was good value.

That would be unreal. And the price for the laps, extremely reasonable.

Its like when you order a steak bacon and egg burger and get the biggest burger of your life, all for 7 bucks... you keep going back.

lol

I really want to make this a reality, get more people into a REAL race experience and give those who will have never have had a chance (before now) to experience first hand what driving a supercar is really like.

It will give me a huge kick to see how much fun you guys will have driving one of our beasts! :(

    • would a r34 gtr hood line up with gt/gtt stock fenders? after latch, front bumper and hinges are swapped for gtr ones? or would the fenders be too low or high in relation to the hood surface? ( I believe seeing somewhere that gtr front fenders use some type of riser for the sides, but do not know how that relates to stock gt/gtt fenders.)
    • You just need to remove the compressor housing, not the entire turbo. I would not be drilling and tapping anything with the housing still on anyways.
    • So, I put my boat on a boat. First of all, I'm going to come out and say it. Why is Tasmania not considered a holy goal, an apex that all road-legal modified cars go to, to experience? This place is an absolute wonderland of titanic proportions. If people are already getting club runs for once in a lifetime 30 person cruises to Tassy then I've never seemed to see it. It is like someone replaced the entire place with an idyllic wonderland for cars, and all of the people living there with paid actors who are kind, humble, and friendly. Dear god. After doing a lap of almost all of the place I've found that it's a great way to find out all of the little things that the car isn't doing quite right and a great way to figure it all out. All in all, I drove for 4 hours a day for a week and nothing broke. I didn't even need to open the engine bay. This is by all means a great success, but it has left me with a list of things to potentially address. I also now have a 3D printed wheel fitment tool which annoyingly hasn't got any threads in it to actually assemble it. I might be able to tape it together to check the sizing I actually want to use, but it'll likely involving pulling the shocks out to properly measure travel at least at the front, and probably raise the car while I'm at it, at least in the rear. I scraped on quite a few things and I'm not sure how else to go about it. I was taking anything with a bump at what felt like 89 degree angles. And address those 10 other tasks. And wash the car. God damn it is dirty. And somehow, the weather was perfect the entire time - And because I was on the top of Mt Wellington it turns out it was very much about to freeze up there. I did something I typically never do and took some photos up there in what must have been -10 and the foggy felt like suspended ice, rather than mere fog. If you own a car in Australia, you owe it to yourself to do it.
    • Damn that was hilarious, and a bit embarrassing for skylines in general 😂 vintage car life ey. That R33 really stomped. Pretty entertaining stuff
    • Hi, I have a r32 gtr transmission. Does any of you guys have an idea how much power it will hold with the billet center plate and stock gearset? At what power level and use did yours brake with or without billet plate? Thanks, Oystein Lovik
