well v power racing fuel is meant to be phased out in NSW..... im looking at a 3 month old photo of the shell petrol station on wicks road at ryde...... there seems to be a red V power racing sign underneath the fuel price sign..... but last night there seems to be a fairly new Green sign that says Vpower racing 5%ethanol in the red signs place...... i didnt stop because i wasnt driving at my gf didnt wanna waste time while i go in and ask the servo whats the deal???? also unlike the other servos that used to have v power racing they dont seem to have the sign on the vpower racing pump that say out of order......

im now wondering if anyone knows if they still have vpower racing there?????

alittle strange when they would have known during the last premium fuel shortage that they were going to phase it out, but still spend money on a new sign?????

The only shell ive been going to lately that has alaways sold v power racing is the one on king georges rd in Chullora.

Have spoken to him and he told me they are not getting rid of it any time soon?

i dont know if he had no idea about the phasing out, or what the go is, but he reckons it will still be available.

On another note, have you tried bp ulitmate, surprisingly i tried v power(98) first, car ran like shit,

then tried bp ultimate(98), even though theyre both 98 ron, It ran just as good, if not better than the V.P.Racing(100), and my car is still on the Jap tune which i assume is the 100ron!

yeah i dont use shell at all, always vortex 98, i used shell v power(98) once and car was rougher, less power, also helped the car stall, no joke but after usuing vpower car needed a full clean and change of spark plugs, yes these things were on the way out but when i put 3/4 of a tank of vortex 98 the roughness went away and idle got better and it ddint stall, it would nearly stall but it never did, then got sparks changed and cleaned throttle body and its perfect again...... anyway i proved to myself that i'll never use shells 98 fuel, but i wanted to try the racing (5% ethanol) mix..... oh well i'll stick with vortex 98 because i know my car runs smoother on it, i know some would argue the opposite but maybe thats how my car is..... anyway might take a drive to see how shells 100 octane is if they still have some at challora...

but most BPs ive seen charge 4c a litre more than other 98 ron providers... e.g. if unleaded is 1.44 then bp ultimate is 1.58 (14c) where as at mobil if unleaded is 1.44 then 98 is 1.55 (11c) and shell and caltex only charge 10c , doesnt make much of a difference in the end but why always pay another 4c a litre more than what u pay at others

depends what competition they have, for example my local caltex is the only petrol 10 minutes drive in any direction...... yes there 98ron is 10 cents more expensive instead of 14...... but there basic unleaded price is usually 5 cents more expensive than the others around.... so ends up being the same price,,,,,, well in the hills it is anyway

SORRY TO LET YOU FELLAS KNOW..

V POWER IS NO LONGER EVEN IF THE BOWSER TELLS YOU SO.. ITS JUST 98 OCTANE.

WE WENT TO TRY TUNE THE CAR ON THIS AND IT WAS VERY OLD V POWER AND ENDED UP LOSING ALOT OF POWER. SO DONT USE IT! IF YOU WANT HIGH RATING USE TOULINE OR OCTANE BOOSTER.

yes it needed caps!

caltex is crap

Never had a problem running caltex fuel in mine for 3 years.. Even after tune!!

Even filled up with caltex for all those track days and one drag day..

However i sold my car three weeks ago, otherwise i would have kept using caltex :)

bp ultimate is more expensive. no doubt there. i used it all the time, until recently . but ive found my car runs easily as good on caltex vortex. maybe even better :)

i tried mobil and it won my 'gtfo award'. and i have a thing about shell. i just dont like it.

i have to dissagree with guilt toy, caltex isnt crap, shell is, shell is proven to burn slower and at a lower temperature than bp ultimate and vortex 98,,,,, unless newcastle gets older stocks of vortex 98 fuel and the octane level drops by the time they send it up there (and it is possible this happens).... otherwise here in sydney shell is the last fuel i'll use, also i find united Boost 98 octane with ethanol works very well..... cant wait to try united's new Premium 100 octane fuel with 10% ethanol.... also it depends on what your car is tuned for or what works best with the standard tune....

United is getting back Boost98???

Or is it better then boost98. I dont understand why they bring fuels out, phase them out and bring them back out again.

I understand that ethonal is good for servo owners (tax benefits) and the australian economy (sugar caine I think) and environment (lower emissions) but why bring it in and out.

I dont want to always be tuning my car from boost98 or vpower racing to bp98...but im a big fan of the ethonal based fuels.

ive seen first hand from a tuners point of view what happens when you put caltex 98 in your car. but i am talking engines with over 300kw at the wheels. Your normal stock bangers can go on any fuel 95 or 98... when your squeezing 380rwkw you notice things with different fuels.

I would not touch shell or caltex or anything else except for BP Ultimate or Mobil Synergy 8000

the rest is just crap. and yes i have tried it in sydney as well. its garbage

boost 98 isnt going anywhre, there just adding the 100 octane version...... also they change fuels according to the market..... shell recons nobody was buying v power racing, i recon its because they only sold it at a hand full of servos in NSW and didnt tell the general public about it....

also guilt toy im going off what ive seen regarding fuel qualities in my own car, and around my area i dont have any bp or mobil servos, only shell and caltex,,, i will try mobile synergy next fill up..... anyway i recon vortex 98 is allot better than shell but i'll give the others a go aswell

Dude,

They took it (boost98) away from a few servos down were I am and I had to go to castle hill all the time to get the fuel as this was the only servo that had it in western sydney.

I even emailed the owner and he said that they were phasing it out?

Besides that its good news if there bringing it back out again at the servos near me, and better fuel then boost98, excellent...

I honestly think you guys are crazy to claim all these differences between the various 98 RON brands. I've used caltex 98, shell 98, mobil 98, BP 98 and they are all pretty much the same. the car doesn't run any better or worse on them. there must be something wrong with your car or tune or you had a stale or contaminated batch of fuel for you to notice any difference. and i have cars from 120awkw through to 350rwkw and a few in between and besides which most of the 98 RON fuels come from the same refinery just branded differently.

the V power Racing 100RON was great and I would have bought it all he time, but the lack of availability was a problem. when you only sell the stuff at half a dozen servos NSW wide it's always destined to be a failure. They should have rolled it out to many more servos and I'm sure it would have been a hit. bummer it's gone and now we no longer have 100RON pump fuel readily available.

I guess it depends where you are then.

example: 03 wrx completely stock. using say vortex to bp98 is a noticable difference say 1-2psi (bp98 been the better of the two). That model wrx is very sensitive to fuel and changes in performance modifications aswell. So there has to be something happening.

:D

Oh and ive used a different fuel for what my car was tuned to and it was pinging on this 98ron fuel??Has to be a difference.

I've had the same experience as richard. I use any 98 fuel and have for over 5 years now. Sometimes there is a bad batch from anywhere but they are all the same in the end.

which is probably because there are 4 or 5 brands of fuel but only 2 refineries in NSW. And one of them has been shut for like 12 months now.

    • Hey Dave, welcome aboard! Good to see another soon-to-be Stagea owner here. The wagons are awesome — plenty of space, still got that Skyline DNA, and loads of potential if you’re into mods. Definitely post up pics when you get it, everyone here loves seeing new builds. What model/year are you looking at?
    • See if you can thermal epoxy a heatsink or two onto it?
    • The other problem was one of those "oh shit we are going to die moments". Basically the high spec Q50s have a full electric steering rack, and the povo ones had a regular hydraulic rack with an electric pump.  So couple of laps into session 5 as I came into turn 2 (big run off now, happily), the dash turned into a christmas tree and the steering became super heavy and I went well off. I assumed it was a tyre failure so limped to the pits, but everything was OK. But....the master warning light was still on so I checked the DTCs and saw – C13E6 “Heat Protection”. Yes, that bloody steering rack computer sitting where the oil cooler should be has its own sensors and error logic, and decided I was using the steering wheel too much. I really appreciated the helpful information in the manual (my bold) POSSIBLE CAUSE • Continuing the overloading steering (Sports driving in the circuit etc,) “DATA MONITOR” >> “C/M TEMPERATURE”. The rise of steering force motor internal temperature caused the protection function to operate. This is not a system malfunction. INSPECTION END So, basically the electric motor in the steering rack got to 150c, and it decided to shut down without warning for my safety. Didn't feel safe. Short term I'll see if I can duct some air to that motor (the engine bay is sealed pretty tight). Long term, depending on how often this happens, I'll look into swapping the povo spec electric/hydraulic rack in. While the rack should be fine the power supply to the pump will be a pain and might be best to deal with it when I add a PDM.
    • And finally, 2 problems I really need to sort.  Firstly as Matt said the auto trans is not happy as it gets hot - I couldn't log the temps but the gauge showed 90o. On the first day I took it out back in Feb, because the coolant was getting hot I never got to any auto trans issues; but on this day by late session 3 and then really clearly in 4 and 5 as it got hotter it just would not shift up. You can hear the issue really clearly at 12:55 and 16:20 on the vid. So the good news is, literally this week Ecutek finally released tuning for the jatco 7 speed. I'll have a chat to Racebox and see what they can do electrically to keep it cooler and to get the gears, if anything. That will likely take some R&D and can only really happen on track as it never gets even warm with road use. I've also picked up some eye wateringly expensive Redline D6 ATF to try, it had the highest viscosity I could find at 100o so we will see if that helps (just waiting for some oil pan gaskets so I can change it properly). If neither of those work I need to remove the coolant/trans interwarmer and the radiator cooler and go to an external cooler....somewhere.....(goodbye washer reservoir?), and if that fails give up on this mad idea and wait for Nissan to release the manual 400R
    • So, what else.... Power. I don't know what it is making because I haven't done a post tune dyno run yet; I will when I get a chance. It was 240rwkw dead stock. Conclusion from the day....it does not need a single kw more until I sort some other stuff. It comes on so hard that I could hear the twin N1 turbos on the R32 crying, and I just can't use what it has around a tight track with the current setup. Brakes. They are perfect. Hit them hard all day and they never felt like having an issue; you can see in the video we were making ground on much lighter cars on better tyres under brakes. They are standard (red sport) calipers, standard size discs in DBA5000 2 piece, Winmax pads and Motul RBF600 fluid, all from Matty at Racebrakes Sydney. Keeping in mind the car is more powerful than my R32 and weighs 1780, he clearly knows his shit. Suspension. This is one of the first areas I need to change. It has electronically controlled dampers from factory, but everything is just way too soft for track work even on the hardest setting (it is nice when hustling on country roads though). In particular it rolls into oversteer mid corner and pitches too much under hard braking so it becomes unstable eg in the turn 1 kink I need to brake early, turn through the kink then brake again so I don't pirouette like an AE86. I need to get some decent shocks with matched springs and sway bars ASAP, even if it is just a v1 setup until I work out a proper race/rally setup later. Tyres. I am running Yoko A052 in 235/45/18 all round, because that was what I could get in approximately the right height on wheels I had in the shed (Rays/Nismo 18x8 off the old Leaf actually!). As track tyres they are pretty poor; I note GTSBoy recently posted a porker comparo video including them where they were about the same as AD09.....that is nothing like a top line track tyre. I'll start getting that sorted but realistically I should get proper sized wheels first (likely 9.5 +38 front and 11 +55 at the rear, so a custom order, and I can't rotate them like the R32), then work out what the best tyre option is. BTW on that, Targa Tas had gone to road tyres instead of semi slicks now so that is a whole other world of choices to sort. Diff. This is the other thing that urgently needs to be addressed. It left massive 1s out of the fish hook all day, even when I was trying not too (you can also hear it reving on the video, and see the RPM rising too fast compared to speed in the data). It has an open diff that Infiniti optimistically called a B-LSD for "Brake Limited Slip Diff". It does good straight line standing start 11s but it is woeful on the track. Nismo seem to make a 2 way for it.
