the fact retuning doesnt cost a bomb either also adds to things if you say change I/C, mild turbo, cams and so on where a remap suddenly becomes unviable in my book once you've had to retune it more than once.

The remaps that are 'sent in the mail' i have no faith in, as every car is different.

I get what your saying but i only have to pay for dyno time when i want a retune.......not done through the mail.

^^ well if you can tune it yourself then fair enough. Your different to 'average' as such

But with most of those R33 remap style its a whole new chip etc, so it not economical long term for the average person who will see a few most throughout the cars life cycle

im in the same boat, same car too, usual first stage mods on 10psi, want to up that to 12psi, and get sum sort of ecu or piggy bak.

im on a budget so tossing up between an apexi safc or toshi remap...?

aim is around 200rwkw

can a safc net you those type of gains? or are the gains too small?

Spoke to Dan from Redline EFI today

He said not to bother with Power FC and look at getting a NisTune.

Aprox $1100

includes ecu, install, tune.

For a R33 i will need a Z32 ECU or AFM

or Haltech ECU for $1795

not including fitting and tuning.

he gave me a estimated price on it being fitted and installed and said $880 to be safe.

He didn't say the Nistune was bad compared to haltech but they had their pro's and cons.

We've got a source for the boards like in your old ECU, eprom conversion! So no more H8 $$ every time you tune ;) just pay for dyno time... Also works well with Nistune, and if you buy a moates emulator and fit that, then you have usb real time tuning which any tuner should be able to tune easily as the Nistune software is in plain english :)

Is Nistune specifically avail for the 33 yet without use of eprom board and moates emulator? Hmm... maybe have to speak more with Matt??

yeah i know you've come leagues since the 2004/5 in that respect...

I was more meaning the Toshi maps and stuff that get sent around the country without actually seeing the car, on the dyno, what its doing etc.

They IMO are risky, and wouldn't be the best tune as you've gotta tune so conservatively to account for every car that the cars would inevitably feel flat and lazy.

I wouldnt mind seeing all the tuning stuff now after all those years and 'issues' with that ECU haha :w00t:

I'll buzz ya next week mate.

not attacking toshi but i agree, you CANNOT trust an over the counter ecu you to give both decen gains and safety.... it is IMPOSSIBLE.

I am making chip each cars.

I send remap ecu to custermer and custermer go to dyno for check AFR and ping etc.

Custermer send me dyno sheet AFR x rpm over the internet.

If AFR not good or pinging , flat spot , no power etc I will send another chip to custermer.

And custermer go to dyno again for check.

Check AFR and ping etc around $80-90 each time on dyno.(normaly 1-2 times)

If custermer is not happy I will send back money to custermer.

I feel toshis remap is a great option for those who dont really wanna go full out.

I had no need to go bigger turbo etc.

So toshis remap for my stock turbo was well worth it.

Why spend 1000 on power fc plus tune when i could spent 400 for same result.

IM talking about usual mods such as stock turbo, full exhaust, pod, fmic.

So for me this was the best option and the results were same as a power fc tune. I still achieved 200kw, no flat spots and damn good mid-range full!!

There are a fair amount of cars with bigger turbos toshi as remapped with good results. So this could be an option for others who dont wanna spend so much. Also for those who want to upgrade later on. That is just stick with the bigger turbo, injectors etc...

Each to their own and what they wanna achieve at the end of the day!!

Yeh im with KISIN ^^

Would like to know a bit more about the Vipec ...prob shouldnt hijack though, deserves its own thread

Can the avid enthusiast tune and tweak them himself (much like a PFC) from home, or are they closer to the HKS f con which needs a usb thingo and a trained tuner?

From what ive read they look like a good option instead of a Power FC...

yeah, im in the market for a aftermarket ecu too..

power fc is pretty pricy..well i reckon then u gota get it tuned..

so here perth, u'll be looking just under the $2000grand mark..

and afew place here in perth do nistune..but NOT for R33 YET!!!

hyperdrive, perthz,c-red etc..do nistune...for most models..but yet nothing for 33's

i rang a few..and asked if i could use a r32ecu and remap that wit nistune...

but still no go... :merli:

now my only option is to get an rechipped r33 ecu from "toshi" from the east..for around $400..no tuning required!!!

but i still need more info on this ecu...

now if you go to the nistune website..

www.nistune.com

it talk about in the faq section..

"Unlike any other type of daughterboards available for Nissan vehicles on the market, NIStune boards are the only real-time tuning solution available on a single small standalone board.

Once initially programmed, the NIStune board is permanently installed in the owners ECU (engine control unit). The ECU can then be tuned on a dyno via either the USB connector for Type 1 boards or Consult port for Type 2-4 boards.

Combined with the powerful user friendly NIStune software, real-time monitoring, map tracing and tuning is quick and simple"

but from what i read on other topics "toshi" R33 remap is done by daughterboards...

another thing..that drdrift uses a Japanese EPROM board ECU??which can use nistune!!!!!!and works wit R33's!!!!!!!!!

can someone please compare these two......

is nistune the way to go?coz u CAN get re-tuned by local tuners...

more info on this would be great :D

thanks

Drdrift and my daughterboard is same.

Daughterboard is able to use NISTUNE software.

If you want to buy daughterboard, its expensive.

My tune base data and daughterboard(fitted) cost $700-850 depends exchange rate and mods.

If no data and only daughterboard , local tuner can not tune.

Because daughterboard work only daughterboard data.

Also if local tuner do not have base data , dyno time take long time.

Power FC is alrady tune data in power fc and tuner is changing power fc tune data.

If tuner make tune data from std ecu map I think can not finish only 1day.

hey toshi, siddr20 says its $400??

is that just for the daughterboard data??

coz.. im interested in getting one of ur remap boards..

but yeah..

so what the deal? you send me an R33ecu, with a daughterboard installed with tuned data?

for $700-850...and then i just send mine back to you...that correct??

    • For these last 7 years of ownership, I've always had to use a small scissor jack under one of the front tow hooks to raise the front just enough so my low-profile jack fits under to reach my subframe jack point. I'm beginning to get annoyed of always having to do this. Are there any lower low-profile jacks that fit under the gtr lip on a dropped car?
    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
    • Here's an idea, answer the questions I asked you as they are trying to work out WHY the LSD will be binding up in a straight line.
