Hey guys,

Just thought id share some info on a product ive just puchased which i think is pretty cool and can make life much easier for the DIY serviceman.

Basically its called an oil extractor, its like a vacumn for engine oil. Basically you put a tube down your dipstick hole and pump the oil out into its bottle/jug etc.

The pros of this are; no need to replace/remove sump plugs and possibly crossing threads, no mess as the oil drips onto your floor.

I am getting an oil filter relocator soon so i will be able to service my car without so much as a drop of oil in the bay when it comes time to replace the oil filter; not to mention the scuff'd knuckles when reaching into the engine to remove/replace the filter.

Basically they sell them on ebay; i bought mine which is a 6.5litre unit with heavy duty components for $160.

It has the ability to remove even 90weight oil. Ill use the unit asap on my gtr and post some more pics and a review on how/if it is easy or not.

Anways just though id give the heads-up

Oh yeah, sounds good.

I also think its a good idea to eliminate the dangers of going under the car and having to remove the sump plug; splashing hot oil on your fingers then having to fish it out of the pan lolz.

normally i wouldnt have gone for an option like this but the vspec lip makes it almost impossible to get underdr the car with just a jack.

I doubt it will get all the oil out part from 100ish/mls but dosent matter too much.

I will be servicing my civic while im at it as well.

if anyone is a little impatient to see how my results come out, try searching youtube, there are some great vids on there.

oh and euro cars have been using em for ages in the states.

They sell for as little as 65bux but i went for the more heavy duty 6.5litre model as i hope it will last.

UPDATE

recieved oil extractor 2 days ago and have used it twice already; once on my car and once on my sisters BMW.

works great and extracted every last drop of oil which i actually measured with a jug one litre at a time lolz.

cons: Takes about 20minutes to complete, its quite slow so you must go away and come back after 2 smokes and a coffee.

pros: no mess and no need to replace washer on sump plug

Anways good product for people who found it annoying/uncomfortable and/or dangerous to jack up the car and slide underneath; i did both services with jeans and a ralph lauren polo lolz; very clean!!!!!!

may post photos soon if anyone is interested.

i built one of these for use in the workshop using a drill attachment pump, some tubing and a cordless drill. great for changing oil in LSD's and gearboxes.

use one of these:

will cost you about $6 all up in materials from bunnings if you already have a drill.

I wouldn't use it on an engine cos the oil is meant to come out from the bottom.

does this get every single drop out? well just as good as traditional method?

you also mentioned u had to wait 20 mins... is it kinda like syphoning fuel/liquids, a small suck/pump n you all sweet?

how exactly does it work? a single say 10mm hose or is there a seal thingy over the oil filler hole?

cheers!

You won't get a 10mm hose down your dipstick hole, have to be smaller than that and thats why it takes 10 minutes to drain the oil.

Another benefit is you don't have your sump plug come loose because you forgot to tighten it up.

Yeah man, it got every drop out; moreso then usual cos when you jack your car up the sump is on an angle so theres always some oil left.

Took a while cos the tube is very small; imagine 3-4mm diameter goes into the dipstick hole. Basically you pump it and it creates a vacumn ( meant to be able to suck 90weight oil)

very well build too, im the US i might add so its really heavy duty.

Doubt it mate, always some oil left over either from geometry, lining or even oil cooler lines i guess.

By the way regarding oil; ive had to change from 10w40 300v motul as its a tad too thick as my engine is quite new and tight so i will be using motul 8100xcess 5w40.

grades of oil vary much; most people know that when they say 'full synthetic' its not the case.

basically aircraft grade oils are redline, motul 300v

castrol edge is in the middle of quality therefore i find it to be a bit of a ripoff.
