Recently a mate of mine just told me how excited he is on his new purchase. He bought a eg6 with a B18c in it. He was telling me just how astonishing the car is. While that is all good, until he told me how powerful the vtec is when it kicks in and stuff. To the extent he said the vtec is best not to be used on the streets, because its too fast and propels in front and hits the car in front. I was just dumbfounded when he said that.

Any similar experience that you guys had or heard of ?

i just find it amusing

apparently if your car can change the exhaust note around 5000RPM and not go any faster than before this is a good thing.

Honda drivers... sorry no... VTEC fanboys are like Apple mac users... an annoyingly brainwashed minority that's being saved from being dragged out on the streets and shot because apparently genocide is illegal.

+1 to that, whats it with these guys? Had a guy at Uni, will not shut up about how mighty Apple is & any discussions regarding to computers will always result him in saying "Get a mac, because windows is a bag of sh*t".

No sir, I don't want a mac, that has essentially the same hardware as a PC (now anyway since they all use Intel CPUs & its chipsets) but priced 2 to 3 times more in price. & don't tell me that OSX is worth the price difference between a similar speced PC to a similar speced mac, no OS is worth $1k.

Who did apple/honda hire as the brain washer? I got a couple of jobs for him/her/it to do :(

I know this is derailing the thread but in regards to Apple Computers, it's the OS that everyone raves about and why there are so many fanboys (me included). It is better than Windows and doesn't have the ass aches that windows is known to have.

But I am a fanboy because for my job, a Mac works WAY better than any PC ever will. And yes I have worked on both platforms. PCs suck for graphic design work.

Hahahaha funny topic i used to have a bunch of mates that were V-Tec this and v-tec that and like were doing our cars up man and ill give your GT-R a run i laughed i fell on the floor and laughed until i cried im like your joking yea? they actually thought they were going to beat me?

Anyway 2 years on now all of them own turbo cars now and they are not honda's but f**k it was funny to listen to that shit and you ask them now what ever happened to V-Tec and they just nod without saying anything cracks me up every time.

Hiya Darren.

Psychological Profile on your friend (being a V-Tec owner myself)

Immaturity > Excitement > Embellishment > Exaggeration > Lie! :(

Sure the 24V 3.2l NSX creates a wonderful howl when the V-Tec kicks in with a surge. And what a wonderful NA car Honda has made in the past. But your mate doesn't have an NSX does he? Neither do I.

Sure I get a push at 4700 in my little 2157cc Prelude VTiR and I like it's surge & tonal change at that point. But I bought that car because it can corner. Not because of its power delivery (which is more similar to the Alfa Romeo 164Q I had a while back).

Tez

LOL!

V-TEC, guess on fuel its good as a daily driver.

Its funny hearing the stories but I haven't really spoke to many V-TEC Fans. FWD Torque steer... Woo Hoo!...

On the Mac subject, I have both and I can easily say PC FTW and I could build a PC more powerful then a Mac and save some cash.

I just have to say about the mac thing.

We have them at work and they are a stupid interface, sure there's a fancy scroll menu and a sleek casing but that's about it.

It's like the Iphone, they got all caught up in making it sooooo trendy they forgot to put in a function to forward text messages.

"Oh but I have so many applications blah blah"

"can you send me a picture or forward on a message?"

"....Look I can have a LIGHTSABER BATTLE!"

I hate Apple and everything it stands for, back on topic I feel the same way about Honda

Plenty of VTEC haters out there.

Having seen the good and bad end of them, I am somewhat converted.

A (Not Type R) DC5 was terrible, the extent of VTEC was a simple noise change.

However my mate just purchased an S2000 and the VTEC is this is remarkably different. You can feel a surge, it does go alot harder and when on song keeps with my R34 GTT neck and neck.

However, it doesnt kick in until 6000rpm, where is where it becomes useless once again.

So it does work, in the right engines, and can make quite a large difference.

i dont mind vtec's, i prefer turbo though. they are fun to drive if you keep em in their rev range but normal street driving wont allow that. i knew someone who had a spoon tuned prelude and that thing was pretty fast but as before you gotta give it some real stick to get the most out of it. hence maybe the reason why your mate is too scared to use it on the streets. whats funny is the prelude owner now drives an evo..lol evolution really was just a matter of time

    • Totally equivalent. Stock often goes from the comp cover because that's where the actuator is also installed and the factory needs 2" of hose to make the connection - and it comes as a pre-assembled unit. They totally have a boost reference from somewhere between the turbo and the throttle(s). Oh, jeez. Just do it in M12 then. We don't actually care that much. I would expect any such AN converter fitting to rely on an o-ring or some other seal onto a flat surface under the flange of the hex**, because bolt threads are no intended to provide a pressure seal. unlike..... pipe threads. **which also requires a suitably flat and smooth surface on the turbo's boss to provide the seal.
    • I also used NP   That’s were it’s seems to be the best place to fit it? All schematic shows also that it’s should be referenced from the turbo housing. But idk, I do see high hp cars without any connection or anything to their turbos, so I really don’t know how they connect their things
    • I do have loctite 243 and 246 and a few more models. I could drill it now in place and make new threads for m12 and order an4 - m12 coupling and fit that to the turbo. Run a braided hose to the EBC which I could get a an4 to 1/8npt
    • So M12 and sealant should be fine?    NPT ” because that’s what I had and what I could get atm.
    • Wouldn’t touch par if they gave it to me. You need to ask how much power you’re looking to make and then add about 50% to it because that’s what you’ll end up making  The factory box says no more at about 350kw or so, the upgraded synchro boxes won’t handle much over 500kw for long and at that point you’re looking at an auto or dog engagement manual,  once you’ve gone dog engagement you may as well go sequential, they cost a little bit more but it’s worth it  also while you’re at it you should upgrade the transfer case with 10 friction plates
