Good concept, but just don't understand why these thing are always tailored to the mega rich? Yes you need to be quite wealthy to throw $10k+ on a weekend of motorsport. Thing is that most people willing to do that, already compete in some form of motorsport so they wouldn't be overlly attracted to this.

Why not, organise the event so as you would charge half the price, and get double the entrants??

Could be wrong though

X2.

Thanks for the input guys - I really appreciate your views good and bad!! By halving the entry fee and accepting double the entries the already exhorbatant costs would skyrocket. For a start we would need to purchase double the cars to use etc, etc and although there are people out there who havent considered ALL the costs and think we are somehow going to pocket millions of dollars it just wont work.

However, would some of you be interested if we released "say" 50 entries at half price to car club members - deposits to be recieved by November 10th or while spots at that figure remain? You will also still go in the draw for the Merc C63.

I am interested to hear what you guys and girls think...........contrary to popular belief we arent greedy and just want to put on the best event we can for the participants which at this point stand at 103.

Even half price Jase is $6k :(

I know what goes in to running an event and the costs involved..But it just seems that all the cool events that people make happen like this are targeted to only the rich!

I have worked really hard just to be able to enter a Dutton Rally round and that event is getting out of reach for most to enter.

For me I would just love to be involved and have a go at an event like this..I dont need to win a Merc! or have a cool watch as special gifts when you enter....Just being part of it is enough for me :ermm:

Sounds like a lot of fun and I hope it goes well for you! Cant wait to see the pics and videos :)

P.s Where is this event getting held? Victoria??

Hi Jess,

it will be held at Wakefield Park NSW on 4th and 5th April 2009. I do agree with you though that motor sport always seems to be aimed at the rich but thats the nature of the sport unfortunatly, I struggled for years to get involved in the sport and know how frustrating it can be.

How much is the Dutton entry fee?

The beauty of our event is that it is an arrive and drive situation with everything included right down to the food for both days and atleast you have the opportunity to win something out of it!!

As entries are filling quite well I am willing to talk to people who are interested in doing the event but cant come up with the full amount - today I will also make an announcement on this forum for your members who might want to get involved at a reduced rate as I do appreciate the input from you all and unlike other forums it has actually been constructive!!

Cheers,

Jason Sinai

Sorry Jase I should of read Juz first post more closely!

Yep it can be frustrating but if you work hard and have the drive to get what you want it can happen for you :)

The cost to enter dutton this year as a driver only is $2375.00 and that includes your meals..

Your event is very appealing and something a bit different ( I havent seen an event like this before). For me to even attempt trying to enter this event I would need to seek help with sponsorship in some form.

Will be coming down as a spectator tho for sure!! Will this be happening yearly???

Hi Jess,

yes, we are planning on making the Million Dollar Driver Challenge an annual event - dependant on interest and entries in the event which at this stage without any advertising (which will begin on the 5th of November) has been extremely strong.

As a result of the current strong interest and entries already recieved we are tomorrow having a meeting and are likely to add a new dimension to the event which will enable people to enter the event on a much more affordable level.

I will make the announcement here on your forum first and it will be very exciting news for all!!!! We have listened to ALL the feedback and are committed to making the event a huge success and attainable for all people interested in entering.

Look out for it guys and girls..................

Cheers,

Once we recieve your email we will send the first 10 people the official registration form to fill out and send back to us with payment of the deposit, we will accept cheques or direct deposit payments ( we can furnish you with the account details ).

The email address is [email protected] ( our official email account isnt up and running yet but will be on the 5th of November with our official website)

Please feel free to call me on 0410 614 330 if you have any questions.

hi everyone, just wanted to let you all know that i like most of you have been more than a little skeptical of this million dollar driver challenge.

i have been interested in the event and have spoken to the organisers a few times over the phone but when i saw the offer above i decided to jump on it and try to enter in the 10 special deals being offered.

as i am melbourne based i decided to fly to sydney today to see exactly who i was dealing with, as even $3500 is a substantial amount for me to part with.

i met with jason sinai who is the organiser and i must say my mind was immediatly at ease - he has massive backing for the event and it looks like being a winner, cars have been ordered, deposits for track time paid and i was even privy to the design of the website which is due to be launched soon, it all looks great.

as there is alot of negativity towards th event i thought i would try and set the record straight for the organisers and say that i am delighted to be involved and have my entry in. :P

Hi all,

Thanks once again for all your feedback on the Million Dollar Driver Challenge!

Due to the huge amount of interest we have received, the "special deal" announced here on the forum has now ended. For more information on the event please vistit our official website www.milliondollardriverchallenge.com.au which will go live early next week.

Sunday 5th April – Motorkhana & Grand Final

Morning Session

All drivers will compete in 2 motorkhana events where they will be given 2 attempts at each.

Following this session, an average of all the times from all 3 sessions will be calculated to give us the top 25 drivers who will compete in the Grand Final.

Afternoon Session

The 25 finalists will be given 4 laps on the Wakefield Park Circuit:

* 1 out lap

* 2 flying laps

* 1 in lap

Prize money is on offer from 1st – 6th place:

1st Place = $500,000

2nd Place = $250,000

3rd Place = $100,000

4th Place = $75,000

5th Place = $50,000

6th Place = $25,000

wow. 2 laps and 2 go's at the khana course. you wouldn't want to get baulked on one of your hot laps. I imagine there will be some people who miss out on the grand final who get pretty heated if they feel they didn't get a fair suck of the sausage. after all 2 flying laps is not much time even for the super talented to get the best out of a car they have never driven before.

just a bit of consructive criticism here, but do you really think a WRX is the best tool to show off a drivers "talent, speed, flair, agility and car control"? I would have thought something a bit more challenging, and perhaps RWD would be the go.

anyway it will be interesting to see what the punters think. it's too rich for my blood and i've no where near enough talent to win the thing. lol. if it were cheaper I'm sure more folk would consider entering anyway as a bit of fun and to benchmark themselves but at $13,629 it's a fair bit of coin for 4 laps in a WRX...

Yeah it doesn't work out for me Richard even though this is something I think I could have a genuine crack at. But you couldn't possibly go into it counting on winning anything as there are too many uncontrollable variables and so if you figure that the $13K+ is only going to give you around 5mins of competitive motorsport it just doesn't add up.

Given for $13K you could cover everything needed to do Targa Tas (minus the car - but including car consumables, travel, entry, accomm etc) and for that money you will get several hours competative seat time. So if I had $13K to spend on driving cars I know which one I'd do even if the prizes are vastly different (as I drive for fun rather than proffit).

come on BB, you also get 2 laps in the afternoon! I wouldn't enter this in a million years either but that's OK, this event isn't aimed at people like me.

does the normal WRX have that centre diff control thingy or is that just the STi? I guess I could go and look at subaru.com.au but I'm too lazy.

does the motorkhana count towards result or is it just the fastest single lap of Wakefield? motorkhanas really are a specialist discipline and unless you're looking for the best motorkhana driver, I think this could skew results away from the fastest track driver.

what tyres will these cars be on? normal road tyres will degrade significantly over the course of the day. even semis could wear significantly depending on how much time each car spends on the track. I'm tipping the front left wouldn't survive a whole day of abuse if the car is on the track constantly.

    • OK, next the shroud needs to come off and there are a couple of tricks. Firstly, there is a loom from near the passenger side headlight to the fans, coolant temp sensor etc and there is no plug to undo.  In my case I was OK to leave the shroud on top of the engine so I just undid the passenger side fan plug and about 10 of the clips which gave enough free wire to put it aside. The fan plugs were super tight, the trick I used was a small falt screwdriver to push down on the release tab, then a larger flat screwdriver to lever the plug out of the fan unit....be careful with how much force you apply! If you need to remove the shroud altogether for some reason you will have to deal with all the plugs (tight) and clips (brittle)....good luck. I removed all of the clips and replaced them with cable ties that I will just cut next time. Also, in the Red Sport / 400R at least, the intake heat exchanger reservoir hose is bolted to the shroud in 2 places with 10mm headed bolts; so remove them (the hose stays in the car; no need to undo it at the t fittings down at the radiator lower mount. Once you've dealt with the HX hose and the wiring loom, there are 3x 10mm headed self tappers holding the top of the shroud to the radiator; remove those.   The shroud then lifts out of the bottom mounts where it sits on the radiator, up and onto the engine out of the way. Simples
    • Ok, disregard my “rate them” comment, sorry for my unrealistic input
    • OK, now we are ready to get started. You need to remove the air boxes on each side for clearance. The cover is straightforward, undo the clips on the top and lift the front cover out of the rest of the housing. If it is tight you can remove the air filters first. The rear section of the airbox is trickier. On each side you need to remove the Air flow meter wiring which is held to the airbox with a clip; you need to get behind the clip on 2 sides if you want to remove it without breaking it - unclip the harder side and pull on the clip with medium force, then unclip the easier side and it should pop out The airbox is held onto the intake hose with a spring clamp; you need to get a flat bladed screwdriver behind the spring on both sides and pop them outwards. When you have got them in the right unclipped place they will stay there and the airbox slips out pretty freely. Put a rag in the intake to prevent anything getting dropped in there, and also to prevent you seeing that the turbo seal is leaking oil (as they do). Then. The top of the radiator is held by a steel plate, it is secured by 2x10mm and 2x12mm headed bolts . Remove them and remove the plate Also grab the bushings that hold the radiator to the plate on each side so they are not lost!
    • Next, remove the upper and lower radiator hoses, both are held with a spring clamp. While you are under there, tackle the Auto Trans cooler lines.  Again both are held on with spring clamps, and as mentioned above you should cap them on the radiator side with an 8mm cap, and on the car side loop them with a length of 8mm pipe - this will stop you losing a dangerous amount of AT fluid during the rest of the job If you've been meaning to add a sender for AT trans temp, this is a great time to do it; put a sender fitting into the passenger side line as that is the inlet to the cooler/radiator.
    • Next you need to remove the intake duct (as with pretty much every job on these cars), it is a series of clips you gently remove with a flat bladed screwdriver. They do get brittle with time and can break, and I have not found a decent quality aftermarket one that fits (they are all too soft or flimsy and don't last either) but the nissan ones are a couple of bucks each (ouch).  Once the clips are off (either 8 or 10, I didn't check) you lift the intake duct out and will see the reservoirs Undo the line into the radiator side cap (some bent needle nosed piers are awesome for spring clamps) and then remove the 4x 10m nuts that hold both in place.  I didn't get these pics, but remove the line under the radiator reservoir (spring clamp again) then remove that reservoir. Then you can get at the intake reservoir, same thing, spring clamp underneath then remove it. BTW This is a great time to put in a larger (+70%) combined reservoir that AMS makes..... https://www.amsperformance.com/product/q50-q60-red-alpha-coolant-expansion-tank/ They also make an Infiniti branded and part# version if that is your thing
