A suburb in Sydney's west is gridlocked by queueing cars after neighbouring petrol stations set off a price war that has sent the cost of fuel below $1 a litre.

The independently-owned BP service station on Sunnyholt Rd in Blacktown cut its prices from $1.40 to 97.4c this morning, prompting the newly-reopened United garage down the road to follow suit.

The prices have subsequently dropped to 94c then 92c, creating further havoc on the roads.

If this did happen in perth, i dont tihnk i would be bothered to wait in a long queue to fill up.

unless of crse i was the first one to see it! then i would for sure!

Queues develop here if the price is below 1.40... what i dont get is that they queue for a good 15-20 mins to fill the car to save what? 3-4 bucks? Time is money people!

Although prices below 1 dollar you would save ~ 20ish dollars. Not a bad saving i guess... if you think that 1 minute of ur time is worth 1 dollar.....

This happened yesterday at Caltex in Carine. was $1.37 I think, so many cars you'd probably be waiting 30mins just to fill up. Definatley agree with you, really not worth it.

Realistically petrol should be around $1.25 at the moment

Even with the lower dollar, oil is that cheap and has been for a number of weeks ~ $1.25 should be the current price.

Where is the Gov't bodies checking it all now i wonder?

We know whats wrong with our systems but cant do a damn thing about it; best labour could come up with is 'fuel watch'

I dont even look at prices anymore, i just fill up at night so i dont have to wait in a que.

Yeah I went right past that servo on the moment that was happening...Great if you got a few hours to spend waiting while hundreds if not thousands of cars are lining up..Sunnyholt rd was total gridlock all the way to Blacktown

mate this happend in melb and one guy was quoted as saying the herald sun that he saved $50 on fuel (so i would say he haves a 70L tank) most likly a ford. but a saveing of $40 to $50 dollers on this was the average depending on the car and fuel req.
