I was out for dinenr in St Kilda last night and the police presence was huge.

Sitting by the window for a number of hours the marked cars passing was regular.

Leaving there for home, I saw 2 different random cars pulled over on Fitzroy street.

On Intersection of Alma Rd and Brighton Rd there was a booze bus stopping St Kilda bound traffic. Another on Alma Rd getting east bound traffic, ANOTHER at the same intersection getting city bound traffic. I was amazed as I rarely see 1 bus around. Head southbound on Brighton rd for 200m and BAM... 2 buses side by side stopping outbound traffic.

I did hear on the radio that they're getting serious in the lead up to Christmas, but 5 buses within 200m of each other??

Apart from the blantantly obvious reason not to drink drive, this over the top presence is there to drive the message home.

Hopefully it works and there's a few more people around to spend Christmas Day with their families.

Take it easy out there folks.

the definition of police, is to police a situation so something doesnt occur

they arent detectives on the street, detecting what happened, after its occured

the more police presence, the less likely something will happen

:P ^^^^

last night they had booze bus at chapel st and then drugs bus in front of shell servo, they test for drugs at random as well.

I was "intercepted as part of the operation RAID "remove all impaired drivers" 2008.

Good idea but I still loled when he gave me the card...

Drug tests don't show prescription medication. I have issues with drug driving in that it's only a fine and dermerit points no licence suspenion compaired to alcohol affected and in many cases drug driver's would be impaired more.

Also use Drug of dependance is an court appearance offence generally but if you get tested and it shows that you have used drugs and drive it's only a fine. Seems really stupid to me.

The incresed police presence in city is good but the government and force command instead of hiring more police are masking the lack of police members by paying members (overtime) from all over the state to work in city on their holidays or rest days to make up the numbers.

I usually finish work at around 3.30-4.30am-ish, leaving the city, weekdays and weekends, and by the time I pass thru most booze/drug buses have well and truly

packed up for the night. All I see is parked cars lining the freeway, obviously been done for somethihng. And I see some f*cked up people driving at that time of the night, no doubt about it. IMO they should stay

set up until at least 5am. It is amazing how much dodgey shit you see going on on the roads at that time of night.

But this weekend, i did not see one single BT/DRUG set up going home (city rd, hoddle, eastern fwy, doncaster rd) and usually theyre a hot spot.

wish these guys were around to catch the commodore doing fish tails on blackburn rd near kmart burwood, and the black r32 on burwood hwy in knows that nearly stacked into on coming traffic while trying to do the same thing

i went home almost exactly the same way, and saw nothing. was expecting the eastern to have cops everywhere!

There's been a booze bus on Dandy Rd (at verious points) every weekend for about the past 6 or so if memory serves me correct. Whilst this weekend was a "operation" its certainly nothing new.

Having a boozie twice though in the same spot (fri/sat night) was a bit surprising. Although Sat night it was only the smaller mini-booze bus thing

Friday night barely a car was allowed through (around 10pm)

Drug tests don't show prescription medication.

even the ones that say 'don't drive or operate heavy machinery' on them... hmmm

and what about the rest of the year... like when the idiots crashed into a pole 50m up the road (Dandenong near Chap) and then spent the next 2 hrs outside my bedroom window yelling and screaming at each other about who was going to say they were driving as they were all smashed... even when my gf got up and called the cops they never showed up

or the guy a mate followed up Dandy who was mounting the kerb, driving on the median, swerving into other lanes as he was so smacked out of his brains he couldn't stay awake? do the drug tests test for Heroine?

totally agree with your comments re overtime tho... you would think that with all the bloody cop shows on tv there would be more kids wanting to sign up lol

It's not about people not wanting to join. There is well over 2000 people who have completed all stages to join Vicpol and are on a waiting list to get called up to go to Academy. The government won't put in the money to training so thus no recruits and making lack of numbers.

I believe that the drug tests don't so heroin but not 100% sure of that. They are very limited in what they show. I have heard that they show Marijuana, Amphetamines and that's about it. I have not worked on drug bus so not fully aware of the testing capabilities but that's what i have heard.

It's all a big scare. They're not out there to catch drunk drivers, just deter them. If they catch you then they've failed in their job. This latest "ring of steel" or whatever they're calling it is pretty effective though, lots of media coverage.

I think you'll find he'd been on the happy pills.

    • Before all the EFR fan boys come in, have a look at: https://www.garrettmotion.com/racing-and-performance/performance-catalog/turbo/g-series-ii-g30-825-58mm/ It also comes in a T4 1.06 divided housing. I would dare say if you want response & also decent power, this thing would chop.   AND apologies, just re-read your post, you've already bought the turbo... whatever you do, make sure you stick with divided housing and proper twin scroll manifold.
    • People have got to stop doing that. ShatGPT is not a search engine. It is a hallucination factory.   I also would recommend the 1.05. The .83 will "work" for you , in that it will be more responsive, but I think you'll find that it won't be anywhere near as good running it out to 8000rpm as the big housing will be.
    • Decided for the first time ever I would tow my car TO the track day on the same working theory as bringing tools and spares "if I have it I wont need it, but if I leave it behind i will 100% need it" all setup and ready to go out and try these A050 for the first time First session showed I needed to stiffen up the dampers a touch but still managed a few 1:21's without much effort. things were looking good. Came in a dropped the tyres down  to 26/28 as they had gotten to 35/33C from 22C cold The first lap of session two I managed to drop into 1:20's. Then in the second lap into the second session. Coming into T3 and I suddenly lost brake pedal followed by some huge rear end vibrations and scraping sounds. Got it back into the pits after session ended and found this. in the attached video, all of the wobble is in the hub its self, wheel is mint, and bearing feels tight. lKXLqpd - Imgur.mp4   Deciding it was a bent spindle I tried to find bearing/hub assembly locally but was unsuccessful so it was loaded back onto the trailer i luckily brought it on to drag it back home
    • 1.05 you’ve gotta let it breath
    • You have to continuously fill it to avoid dry running. Personally the transmissions I've serviced have never been bad enough to justify doing this because it is definitely a pretty complicated and somewhat risky procedure compared to simply draining the pan, measuring what came out, then refilling with the exact same amount.
