Gt35r Vs Garrett T04z - Discussion (just Post In This Thread To Create A Database)

Recommended Posts

my t04z is a split pulse t4 flange - same as the GT3788. The 4088R is a bigger turbo than the T04Z (compressor and turbine) so it will flow more HP, with a tiny bit more lag.

Main reason for doing the swap is simply that the Z is too doughy out of medium tight corners around the track. IE: turns 3/4 @ QR I take at about 80km/hr. 2nd gear == massive tailslide on exit, whilst 3rd gear == LAG all the way out of the corner. Hopefully the new turbo is not only slightly more responsive, but a lot more linear in power delivery. I make 1 bar at 4100rpm with the Z and 24psi at 4500. Thats not too laggy, but as soon as you go below 4000 rpm there is absolutely nothing there. I wouldnt care too much if the 3788 only makes 1 bar at 4000rpm as long as 3800/3900 still had SOMETHING available unlike the Z which comes on like a lightswitch once you get over 4.

The only unfortuante thing is that I wont be able to directly compare how the 2 turbo's would have worked on the track as I'm making some other significant changes to the car at the same time. So wont be able to say if the 3788 is soley responsible for better lap times, but hopefully combined with everything else we are doing it makes a big difference.

Still probably a couple of weeks away from doing the swap - will see how we go.

What else are you doing mate!?!?!!?!?!?

Is it going to be ready for the 11th?

We are going to run high boost on the T04z this time and see what we can times we can squeeze out of it.

Hopefully the new balancer will keep all the belts on the car unlike last times sad effort!

#### Couldnt edit my first abortion of a sentence.

this should make more sense

Oh few bits and pieces. Got some softer suspension going in as the 12kg springs that were on there were way to hard. The car will definitely be there on the 11th even if i have to push the damn thing around the track :D

hopefully catcha then ! Look forward to seeing what you can do with the good ole Z :P

Nice mate,

Looking forward to seeing your new setup in action!

Are you running an RB30? 1bar at 4100rpm isn't that bad

Strictly speaking the GT4088R isn't really a bigger turbo than the T04Z, the T04Z has a bigger compressor which wants to flow a bit more air - the Supra guys in the States and the UK seem to be increasingly moving from the T04Z to the GT4088R as the fun 700+ish turbo to have, the GT4088R is apparently more useable and generally fun.

Look forward to hearing how the GT3788R treats you, I've never heard of one used on a petrol motor.

sounds like rb26 response.... in 4th gear on a flat road loading up the motor i was getting 1bar around 3700rpm on my stock capacity rb26

Smoking Crack whilst driving helps Cerbera think the boost is coming on sooner.

Also Cerbs .... 139mph last night with a GT35 !!

ANDRA guy got angry and told me to get a chute ..... jeeeeeez never ends !

Good job, I guessed your weight at 2800lb?s and put your run in the Power calculator and it came up at 560hp so the numbers sound right.

Reasonable guide but remember its engine power. Im surprised just how close this has been.

dam id love to see a skyline run 139 at the plex, where are u getting ur E85 from in perth?

silvia even

Running 1000cc injectors and low rail pressure. It gets to 90%.

Not sure how the pump would fair on higher rail pressure but in theory a lot more injector available.

Yea, the compressors of the 2 turbo's are fairly similar in the scheme of things ->

TO4Z

Inducer 66.7mm

Exducer 84.0mm

Turbine: 74.2mm

4088R

Inducer 63.5mm

Exducer 88.0mm

Turbine: 77.0mm

Doesn't the exducer determine how much air it can flow ? People seem to be getting a bit more HP out of the 4088's than the Z's.. the fin design of the new garrett turbo's is more efficient than the older Z's.

    • Yeah been doing it in an x shape. Do you reckon it's worth putting guide coat early where the filler isn't sanded down completely smooth? Reason I ask is because as I'm sanding it one part might be level which I don't need to sand anymore but the other part might be high so I can just focus on that instead of sanding across the whole repair area. I wonder if the putty is too thin, though the area is almost completely smooth before I do it as I've already put filler prior.
    • Just 2, and inline. One switch temp related other switch driver controlled.   I'm nearly in my head back to Arduino land for it...
    • Complex conex, sand in X shape. And don't go hardcore. I find putting on filler to be the art here to help.
    • Hey y'all, I have a completely stock 1991 R32 GTR, yesterday I took my car out and went for about a thirty minute drive. It was fine on the way there but when returning home I think the car might have gone into a limp mode. I was cruising in 5th gear around 130km/h, the hicas light came on and there was a significant loss of power. About a minute later I hear a thump, the car starts driving normal again and is fine the rest of the drive back. This is the second time its happened, same as now it was fine on the trip there. On the way back it had the hicas light on but that time I would feel the power going in and out before hearing the same thump and it being fine.  I have no idea idea what causing this, but if anyone has any ideas it would be great as a start chasing the cause of this. Also I can provide more details if needed. Thank you
    • When sanding across a convex panel, you need to sand, as much as possible, at right angles to the curve. If the panel is compound convex curved (ie curved in both directions) then you are SOL and have to use "craftsmanship" to get it right.
