ive got stock rims on it at the moment, so thats sorted, having said that im not sure what kinds of things regency will look for....im sure my car has about a million things on it which wont get passed

and looking at the price of even second hand parts to buy, its going to be a very expensive venture

That's the problem when you buy a car that already has lots of modifications. Recency will go over your whole car inside and out and even underneath, some people just take their cars through, get a list of whats wrong then fix them and just take it back through later and pass. When my car had to go through with my new engine, i had my mechanic go over my whole car and fix all the things that were wrong with it, and my car passed first time.

well as far as i can tell for the moment, i need to rectify the coilovers in the rear, the height of the front, move the boost gauge, remove turbo timer, sort out bov, get hold of a parcel shelf with child restraints, get a eye level tail light, and the exhaust is questionable.

after that, im not sure what else could be an issue. i dare say i wont pass first go  are there any other obvious things which they go for?

Suspension parts and bushes, lights, seat belts etc etc. they pretty much check everything.

by the looks of it from that photo in ur sig, u will need a reo bar, and new front bumper, and probally need to get a hold of a stock intercooler as it probally wont fit with the reo bar in place, as your reo bar has been cut for the front bar and intercooler.

now some people would say that they dont check, some do some don't.

also probally need to get that spray on tint off ur side indicators, dunno if they will pick on you with that.

Depends if your willing to take the chance, and risk waiting another few weeks for another appointment

Are you saying he needs a front bar that will fit with the reo bar in place ?

or just needs a new front bar ?

Ive been thru with BN kits, etc on previous ride. they dont care about kits. as long as they arent cheap POS items that arent in place properly.

you cannot alter a numberplate in any way, be it cutting or bending, however ALOT of import owners do, simply so it can fit in the standard mounting position. I doubt regency will pick on that too much tho.

replacement plates are only 21 bucks to re order better to be safe then sorry, and that 21 bucsk gives you new front and rear plates

nah im staying the bottom of the reobar has been cut to fit the bar in. therefore once the reo bar is replaced with a uncut one, the aftermarket bar would no longer fit.

therefore a stock bar would be needed.

needs new reobar and stock bar as i said. trust me on this one. as i failed for having a cut reobar under a stock bumper, because my car used to have a gtr look alike on it.

WOOP got over regencey today.Passed first time cut reo bar and all. Two thumbs up to the inspector he was a top bloke was even having a joke with me

Well done, maybe he thinks its as big a joke as the rest of us with all the skylines getting defected.

yeah he was telling me that they have had about 25-30 imports aweek booking in. and most of them have been for suspition of modification. Its just crap the way the police have been picking on the imports. They need to get out and catch the real crims

yer both the inspectors i had were chill as! the irst guy laughed at what the cop told me and the second guy told me

"if the cockheads pull you over before monday show them the slip because it probably wont be on the system till then" i was stunned at first, than laughed hehe.

if i went to regency and didnt pass on my first time. and i booked a reappointment. do i need to go to a cop shop to extend my blue defect notice? or can i just drive it around, like i did before my first appointment, until i go back in to regency?

yes you need another permit.. what they do is redefect you with a new notice and another sticker. you get the new defect notice signed...

sorry to say but ur wrong there, i been through this process too many times

all the day is cross out ur old one a write a new time under it

they dont go to so much hassle, for a regency as long as its got a signature, stamp and number its all good

hell i had 5 different dates crossed out on the one sheet and no one said nothing and they didnt write a new sheet.

think bout it if the wrote a new sheet they gotta do new paper work coz the defect notice numbers are different.

yeh, regency love giving SAPOL shit, always have a laugh at SAPOL's idiocy when we're there.

Thats what I was told also when I went to get a defect off my bike. After riding my bike into the 'shed' (quiet-ish, had the baffles in, and was in pristine show condition) the inspector says straight away "What the hell is wrong with this bike?". Showed him the paperwork on that I got done for indicators! His response was "You're joking right!?!"

    • Bit of a pity we don't have good images of the back/front of the PCB ~ that said, I found a YT vid of a teardown to replace dicky clock switches, and got enough of a glimpse to realize this PCB is the front-end to a connected to what I'll call PCBA, and as such this is all digital on this PCB..ergo, battery voltage probably doesn't make an appearance here ; that is, I'd expect them to do something on PCBA wrt power conditioning for the adjustment/display/switch PCB.... ....given what's transpired..ie; some permutation of 12vdc on a 5vdc with or without correct polarity...would explain why the zener said "no" and exploded. The transistor Q5 (M33) is likely to be a digital switching transistor...that is, package has builtin bias resistors to ensure it saturates as soon as base threshold voltage is reached (minimal rise/fall time)....and wrt the question 'what else could've fried?' ....well, I know there's an MCU on this board (display, I/O at a guess), and you hope they isolated it from this scenario...I got my crayons out, it looks a bit like this...   ...not a lot to see, or rather, everything you'd like to see disappears down a via to the other side...base drive for the transistor comes from somewhere else, what this transistor is switching is somewhere else...but the zener circuit is exclusive to all this ~ it's providing a set voltage (current limited by the 1K3 resistor R19)...and disappears somewhere else down the via I marked V out ; if the errant voltage 'jumped' the diode in the millisecond before it exploded, whatever that V out via feeds may have seen a spike... ....I'll just imagine that Q5 was switched off at the time, thus no damage should've been done....but whatever that zener feeds has to be checked... HTH
    • I think Fitmit had some, have a look on there (theyre Australian as well)
    • Hah, fair enough! But if you learn with this one you can drive any other OEM manual. No modern luxury features like auto rev-matching or hillstart assist to give you a false sense of confidence. And a heavy car with not that much torque so it stalls easily.
    • Actually, I'd say all three are the automatic option. Just the different trim levels. The manual would be RSFS, no?
