Oh yeah can I borrow them again in a few weeks aswell after Mitch in the most likely chance that I may not pass the first time? :)

Im getting my rims back tonight for sure so whoever wants to borrow them can just PM me and a small 6pack hire fee.

Sorry mitch everything fell apart last night.

Its via direct route, you live in burnside don't you? you can make a pretty direct route to regency via tyre power surely.

As long as you aren't driving to mt barker or lonsdale the cops are gonna have a pretty hard time fining you for using your permit incorrectly, especially as they are related to the inspection. Hell if you can get to glandore via a 'direct route' then you can come borrow my 32 wheels (great tread) providing you swap all yours on so it has something to sit on until you get back, I'm going to be home all day.

CHEERS !!!

what a bunch of USELESS f**kS !

i just got home now, been down there since 3pm

im not gonna let this shit blow over..

So what happened in the end, did they refund your money or say they would replace the ignition? How did you get it home?

So what happened in the end, did they refund your money or say they would replace the ignition? How did you get it home?

OK heres the full story , so everyone can read.

i took the car to regency for its inspection as its defected.

rocked up at 3:20pm which is when it was booked in for. (got stuck in traffic)

anyways , went in , paid the $148.00 and then took it into the shed , the guy told me to drive towards the hoist and he would guide me on...

get it on the hoist , do the usual checks; headlights , indicators etc etc

then i get out the car and sit down at the desk while him and the other inspector go over it.

they start going through the interior and i notice one of them sitting in the drivers seat , he would of been sitting there for a good 2 minutes

then the other inspector came over to him while he was sitting there, the other inspector was just standing there looking at the steering wheel area (couldn't exactly see as the bonnet was still up)

anyways this guy would of been sitting there for about 5 minutes in total then gets out and they raise the car up on the hoist.

go over the whole under body and check the diff to see if its locked.

then after that one of them checks the steering by turning the wheels but the steering lock kicks in

they stop with that and proceed to check other parts of the car

finally they come back to it and they end up lowering the hoist down so one of them can get to the ignition

the guy plays around with it for about 30 seconds and then goes to me "how did you get the car here with half a key , mate"

which i replied to saying "there was a full key obviously... i drove it into the car park ,turned the car off , locked it , went inside , paid my money, came back out , unlocked the car, started it , drove it inside , onto your hoist , turned it off and left it sitting out of the ignition in case you needed to turn it on"

and straight away he goes "oh nah i didn't break it mate..."

i replied "how do i know that?, it was a solid key when i left the vehicle"...

he doesn't say any more & goes back to inspecting the car, makes a list of shit thats wrong etc etc

times comes to finish up and he goes and slaps another defect sticker on it , gives me another defect notice and the list of whats needed.

then he gets all his buddies to come push the car off the hoist.

one of the genius's had the idea of jacking it up from the engine cross member to move the front around as steering lock was stuck on...

about 10 minutes go by and theres 7 donkeys standing around the car pushing it back , and they have the audacity to ask ME to help push it? yeah right...

end up pushing the car out the roller door and basically telling me that i have till 7am tomorrow morning to have it moved otherwise it will be towed , and that i should probably call a tow truck

or a mobile lock smith...

i am absolutely FUMING at this point , but i didn't go off at em..

so they all walk off and shut the roller door , so here i am , STUCK with a car that i cant start , lock etc etc...

had to get my dad and Nigel to come down and help me fix it

Absolute bunch of f**king wankers !

the guy plays around with it for about 30 seconds and then goes to me "how did you get the car here with half a key , mate"

WTF BULLSHIT IS THAT! f**k! f**king smart ass flamin mongrel not even man enough to own up to breaking the key what a dickhead! That guy definitely needs a swift kick in the head.

Definitely get free legal advice, document everything you do and send a polite (even though it will hurt you to be polite) letter of demand to regency asking to be reimbursed for the broken key/ignition barrel/tow. Explain in simple but exact terms how it is 100% impossible for you to have started the car in the car park with no key in the ignition.

Take lots of photos. This would be an open and shut case if you took them to small claims court (would never get there as they would pay up), the people that provide free legal advice will help you draft a letter up as they are very helpful nice people (been to see them before).

Whilst it is probably only $100 to get a replacement ignition barrel its the principle, only take an hour of your day to go visit the free legal advice people in town.

Will be giving legal aid a call tomorrow about it

    • Bit of a pity we don't have good images of the back/front of the PCB ~ that said, I found a YT vid of a teardown to replace dicky clock switches, and got enough of a glimpse to realize this PCB is the front-end to a connected to what I'll call PCBA, and as such this is all digital on this PCB..ergo, battery voltage probably doesn't make an appearance here ; that is, I'd expect them to do something on PCBA wrt power conditioning for the adjustment/display/switch PCB.... ....given what's transpired..ie; some permutation of 12vdc on a 5vdc with or without correct polarity...would explain why the zener said "no" and exploded. The transistor Q5 (M33) is likely to be a digital switching transistor...that is, package has builtin bias resistors to ensure it saturates as soon as base threshold voltage is reached (minimal rise/fall time)....and wrt the question 'what else could've fried?' ....well, I know there's an MCU on this board (display, I/O at a guess), and you hope they isolated it from this scenario...I got my crayons out, it looks a bit like this...   ...not a lot to see, or rather, everything you'd like to see disappears down a via to the other side...base drive for the transistor comes from somewhere else, what this transistor is switching is somewhere else...but the zener circuit is exclusive to all this ~ it's providing a set voltage (current limited by the 1K3 resistor R19)...and disappears somewhere else down the via I marked V out ; if the errant voltage 'jumped' the diode in the millisecond before it exploded, whatever that V out via feeds may have seen a spike... ....I'll just imagine that Q5 was switched off at the time, thus no damage should've been done....but whatever that zener feeds has to be checked... • I think Fitmit had some, have a look on there (theyre Australian as well)
    • Hah, fair enough! But if you learn with this one you can drive any other OEM manual. No modern luxury features like auto rev-matching or hillstart assist to give you a false sense of confidence. And a heavy car with not that much torque so it stalls easily.
    • Actually, I'd say all three are the automatic option. Just the different trim levels. The manual would be RSFS, no?
