Hi admins

I had an idea a little while ago about a forum for workshop feedback (see this thread: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Go...html&st=20)

Anyway my idea is that there would be a forum, perhaps split into state sections, where people could post feedback on workshops without any form of endorsement from SAU itself. Each workshop would be entitled to a single thread and there would be no stickies / preference given to any particular workshop, allowing honest feedback and discussion.

There would be rules to cover slanderous comments and people would have to stick to the facts strictly as well. That's not to say that workshops couldn't get a negative rap, but it would have to be a factious negative rap without slander and sticking to what actually happened etc.

Ian

I think thats a great idea

Sorry - there is no negative or otherwise allowed on SAU

This is so that SAU exists, and continues to exist for many years without issue.

We've had a number of legal challenges over the years and really dont need a single one of them.

There is always two sides to every story, and sadly, you'll never know the truth, there is no way to prove events and so on.

If people have such an issue with a workshop, take them to court and then post up the details once a court decides you are right.

This seems grossly unfair on the consumers, who are the vast majority of the population of this forum. As it currently stands, workshops are getting away with daylight robbery and dodgy work every day and they are not being held to account because everyone's too scared.

Lawsuits are expensive, drawn out things which often drag peoples names, including the workshops, through the mud and few every make it to trial, most being settled out of court. I doubt that most workshops, which run on a pretty tight budget, would be able to marshal sufficient resources to make a proper attack on a public forum, and even then, if in the course of the trial it comes out that the original complaint was correct, as it most likely will, then it will be thrown from court.

It would be far more affordable for a workshop to simply fix their fu**ups as they should have done anyway.

However I respect your decision, as gutless as it is.

Feel free to create your own forum and implement the aforementioned section.

+1

couldn't have said it better.

You probably could have if you tried.

Gutless? Oh please.

This forum exists, and continues to exist due to smart and careful administration.

Do you want to pay our legal fees for any legal challenges that come up? (as they have in the past, and I'm not joking)

I'll take the liberty to answer it for you - Your going to say - No.

So until such a time as you are willing, and its in writing, such a section will not exist.

I also know a few other Forum Owners of various sites, and this is a reasonable issue. One decent court case will spell the end of a forum, simple as that.

To call it a gutless decision to keep the forums here, for everyone, is stupid and ignorant.

Feel free to go and start your own forum, pay for the server, software and everything else. Then you might understand a thing or two about where we come from

well, okay, I've been thinking about creating a website for workshop reviews for a while now anyway. Believe it or not, but I already understand a thing or two about web hosting etc, im in my final year at QUT doing a Bachelor of IT.

Dont take this the wrong way, I don't wish to start a pissing contest with you, you have your policy of protecting workshops from negative feedback and thats fine, I believe I can create a system which should work without risk. I can understand your position, as much as I don't agree with it, and im happy to host the website myself and meet the costs of hosting etc.

Ill have a URL for you within a week. :(

I do understand mate. I just think that your maybe being a bit over-protective.

A few interesting reads for you:

Anyway I dont want to get into an argument, your an admin on this forum and its not exactly a fair playing field. I have stated my case, you told me no, make your own forum and I will.

That is fantastic to hear about your IT degree :nyaanyaa: Well done.

All the best with your forums mate

Cheers

I have registered the domain and setup a basic forum, waiting for the DNS to propagate and have had some help writing up a disclaimer etc, also need to do some other small things then it should be underway.

I haven't laid out a huge outlay for hosting etc yet, we will see if the idea takes off before I invest more money into it.

Sounds good man. How much did you pay for the disclaimer?

we will see if the idea takes off before I invest more money into it.

I'm guessing it didn't take off?

For the record, I don't protect businesses, on the contrary, I love seeing businesses get whats coming to them when they deserve it, but a lot of the time a disgruntled customer can cause a lot of damage to a businesses reputation when, as Ash said, there is always two sides to the story. I had a lengthy phone call with a QLD importer just yesterday about comments made on the forums that were unjust, he explained the situation and I removed the thread. It was only fair as I was able to see the argument from both sides.

On a side note, if we can get workshops / businesses to sign a disclaimer freeing SAU from any legal responsibility regardless of what is posted, then yeah, I'm more than happy to have the feedback for that business posted, but how many businesses / workshops do you think will be willing to sign something like that?

Ian, I like your passion man, seriously. I think you underestimate how much time we put into making this place run the way it does. No decisions are made without lots of thought and sometimes legal advice (such as in this case).

    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
    • Here's an idea, answer the questions I asked you as they are trying to work out WHY the LSD will be binding up in a straight line.
