Hey guys I know its a long shot. But i just got a 05 BMW E46 M3 recently and im looking for an exhaust system for it.

I was told that the stock exhaust actually has very good flow, and that i can go backwards in performance if not done right?

I did find a bolt on exhaust called Remus buts its $5800 for a full stainless exhaust with cat.

Does anybody know where i can buy a bolt on kit that doesn't cost so much?

And also anywhere where i can get carbon fibre boot lip for it etc?.

Thanks

My parents bought it for me as a 21st birthday present, but with the intentions of me selling it to make money. They got it really cheap from a friend who had to go back overseas. And yeah i want to get it sounding abit better but dont really want to pay over 6k delivered for an exhaust.

Might just give a muffler joint a call and see what they can get me.

That's one f**king AWESOME 21st birthday present. Unfortunately BMW would have put a lot of research into fine-tuning the exhaust and unless you're willing to spend the big $$$ on an aftermarket one, you will undoubtedly lose power... although it may still sound freakin awesome.

Very true.

Also, Tom works with TrikFab next door to him who does custom fabrication. Their work isn't cheap, but its top notch.

Plus if you want to mod the car for more power, he can arrange almost anything you need. I think he has a couple M5 engines sitting in his garage atm :(

Yeah if you full throttle an E46 M3, the stock exhaust sounds shit.

Remus make good exhaust - http://www.remus.net.au/page/1103490

For $1,880.00, thats just the muffler but Im sure you can ask about the cat back pipes.

One of the old blokes at my work had an E46 M3 and has a new Full stainless exhaust and coilovers he wants to get rid of. Might be able to get them on the real cheap. If you still keen I will ask him tomorrow how much he wants for them. He is thinking of getting him and his son 34 GTR's so was talking to me about my 32.

PM me if you want me to ask him for you.

Welcome to the world of European car tuning.

If you think a $5k exhaust system is expensive, just wait until something breaks...

Best to keep it stock if your intention is to sell it too.

The stock m3 exhaust flows well up to 700hp, its the cats that are the big restriction, grab a set of headers from the US

modbargains.com is a good site for parts; check the forum e46fanatics which will give you all the info you need, its like the SAU for e46 series BMW's

If you want do the cats, dont do the catback cos you get this funny 'rasp' noise on cruising otherwise a good catback from remus or gruppe a are great.

about 1500bux shipped to aus last time i checked.

from the outside... heard it from the inside? :P

mate, Southern BM in Moorabbin is one of the best after market places for bimmers, supercharging, exhausts (incl remus), blah blah... highly recommend them

Andrew @ Southern BM is the man to speak to, tell him the Daniel (black skyline) from DA sent ya

and yes, 256kw or there-abouts from a N/A 3.2 straight six is impressive and the M division has got it almost to the limit. You won't see the massive gains like you would with an RB26 relative to price. But you could always supercharge it :)

You MUST get straight pipes!

have seen that vid many times... you'll find that that one is the m3 CSL, which is another beast entirely. far less "tin canny" than the regular, garden variety m3. but hey i think thats just the jealousy talking lol

+1 keep it stock. The guys at BMW probably put a lot of thought into how the exhaust flowed, how it sits under the body etc, I don't believe "Backyard Performance" muffler shop will do better than a whole load of German engineers.

It'd be like getting an angle grinder out to lower it....

Really?

I see. Hey Candy33 take me for a ride in your M3 Hehe!!

Hehe i might bring it out on a cruise one day, if you see me driving about just snag me down and i'll take ya for a drive. Its just a stock Pheonix yellow/gold one. Theres nothng special with it to tell you the truth, they dont have much torque and my gtr will slay it. Its only quick on gearshifts and looks good. And yes they do sound funny on full throttle, reminds me of a rattling milo tin getting dragged on the floor.

how big was the box? for the M3?

i was promised one of those^^ if i get a good enter score lol....

just 2 years... 2 years

Let me guess your asian? LOL nah well it was a suprise cos i didnt get it until a week after my bday. But yeah parents paid mid 40's for it. which is cheap considering there about 80k on the market.

mid 40s for an e46 m3?? bargain!!!

for the record i was promised a 33 gtst if i got into my uni course (which i did) and im not asian. however my old man failed to come up with the car.. had to fund it all myself :nyaanyaa: lol

    • Sorry to hear your HFM BM57 was faulty,  did you contact HFM I would hope they would be at least grateful for the information if there was some sort of manufacturing fault, you would hope they would be sympathetic even if your item was 2 years old if it had never been fitted. May I ask where it leaked from ?
    • Cats are called Bella, and Donna...  Like that poisonous plant And I remember your 2 monsters, I remember making a little bit of wee when you let them out... LOL I have already installed cat doors into the laundry where their kitty litter is, and the sun room, apart from the cat doors there's not going to be any permanent mounted stuff on the interior walls (interior doors are cheap and easy to replace) I will get a outdoor cat cage thingie once I finish the landscaping out back... https://catnip.com.au/ The only off limit areas are the main bedroom and the gym room....but, currently the cats are curled up in bed, in the main bedroom with the Mrs.....LOL, the off limits for the kittens to the main bedroom lasted about 5 minutes with Jackie I currently only have 1 free standing huge cat tree multiple level scratching post thingie in the lounge room, but, I will be getting another one soon now that I'm happy with the furniture layout in the back room and have a perfect spot for it
    • All of this is making it seem clear that running the Coppermix twin was definitely the way to go, especially in hindsight with how insane tariffs have gotten and the strength of the USD vs yen at the time.
    • That sounds like no chance of even importing one for road registering then Now I see why Duncan wants to check LHD rules for Targa...   I wonder how "bolt in" the AWD would be if you got one imported from the US and swapped it to an AUD one
    • Not to mention they drive like a bucket of bolts! yuck!
