Just a reminder to all you guys to be safe over the Christmas period I know it's been said a million times but once you witness something first hand like I just did it really changes your perspective.

Across the road from me Hull road in Mooroolbark, 3 young guys (p Plater) just hit a tree at what the police suspect may have been speeds of up to 120km/h in a 60km/h zone. The car hit in the passanger side and up rooted the tree. The driver had been drinking!

The consequences of all this are 2 kids who will be spending Christmas in hospital this year (various broken bones) and another one who will be lucky to survive the rest of this morning, and will be thanking god if he see's Christmas at all (severe head injuries, missing half of his face, punctured lungs etc.). He was stabilised for an hour before they could even airlift him out.

My brother and I where first on the scene we're both of that age 21 and 24 and when you cradle a guy who's on death door in your arms in really changes everything you know about driving..I can't even drive my car down to the cop shop to make a statement right now.

And the thing that always seems to amaze me with these accidents is the driver is the one who comes of best (i've seen and read about this time and again).

So just a reminder guys don't drink and drive and don't jump in the car with someone who has.

Have a safe and Merry Christmas.

P.S I can post up some photo's of the car but I will wait for the moderators to give me permission for this first.

Poor dumb bastards..

Thats a big shot of reality for the guys in the car and yourself.

I see some good has come of this tragedy already, good post Zorb and best wishes for the badly injured kid and his family.

That's tragic dude! I hope you are alright and definitely find someone to have a chat to about it, even if it is a friend. Moments like those can have lasting effects if you don't deal with them right. I hope you have a merry Christmas and a happy new year!!!!!!!

On a lighter side, was at my mates house yesterday, he lives near a busy roundabout which has accidents all the time, yesterday we were in his garage and heard what sounded like an accident, sounded a bit odd though as it went for a while, almost sounded like someone's front bar had come off and they were driving down the road with it scraping on the ground, we went out to have a look, because we were about 20 meters down a side street off the main road we could not see all of it, all we could see was two cars pulled up, there was a guy next to the first car looking back past the second car, he then got in his car and left, about ten seconds later 3 guys come into view carrying a jet ski, we pissed our selves laughing, then a couple of minutes later the cops turned up, and to top it off his mate turned up while the cops were there but they parked in the street we were in, im guessing he didnt want cops seeing the big polished front mount on his vt.

As a truck driver i see things like this too often and many many more that could end like this, its not just christmas that people need to be more carefull its all year round, too many people take too many risks on a daily basis, you might get away with it most of the time but its that one time that will rip the heart out of many people when they have to attend there funeral.

On another note Caulfield S bend, When will people learn ?

coming home last night from "witches in britches" dinner and show, awsome night recomended !

anywho come home and reach those caulfield S bend on the inbound side saw a fire truck ambo and cops cars directing traffic,

under the bridge i saw a white car on its roof nose facing inbound still.

out the other side more cops directing traffic to avoid the underpass, and took note of the flowers on the tree just after were a young girl named Sandra was killed not that long ago.

something need to be done there before some more carnage keeps happening, like o the new keysy/dandy bypass, flashing lights and warning signs about preparing to stop under the tunnel.

but the car being on its roof is a result of someones bad driving either there's or some one else.

just again Be safe and be very aware of what may be around the corner, what may run out from that parked car, just be aware and ready for anything, to close to xmas for someones parents to get the knock late at night by two police officers bring the worst news.

p.s sorry for 'thread stealing' just seemed like the place to put it without making another thread , hope you feel better soon Andrew, must be something else to witness that and deal with it

I might just add that I've had a recent personal experience which I found upsetting. A guy who works for me's son was in the ute that collected a tree in Upper Ferntree Gully the wet weekend a couple of weeks ago. His son is relatively OK, but 1 is dead and the other on life support and on last report. The whole incident has left him visibly affected. You can see the trauma in his eyes and face and in his voice. I won't go into details but the story is horrendous for all involved and will shape lives forever.

Don't do it to yourself, don't do it to your parents, don't do it to anyone else. It's very serious stuff, that young men little understand or care for until it is way too late.

Be careful and responsible and promote it in others.

be safe everyone.

it sucks to be first on the scene of an accident. its so eary(spelling) every things so quiet.

like that crash i witnessed not too long ago

car was on its side. i just didnt want to look inside incase i saw something horrible.

but luckily. the dude was okay

Hope you're okay after seeing that, make sure you speak about it to your friends and family. You might feel okay now but in the coming days it might start replaying in your head. Best wishes for recovery to the injured guys, even though it should never have happened it's not nice to hear of anyone hurt, especially so close to Christmas.

cant belive no one died in that.

to the driver, your an idiot, nothing to blame there but youself, no excuse will work with that one an uprooted tree is bloody good evidence oh reckless driving.

passengers feel sorry for you not incontrol of the car or the situation, but you do have a voice

think it was a cop who told us this in high school with all the driving education we got. ' dont like the drivers driving speak up and let them know you dont, and be laughed at for a minute, or be to scared to say anthing and live with the scars and heartache and disablitites if you dont ' think it went somthing like that

just another accident in Keysborough Noble Park on Yarramen Rd the one that runs between bloomfield and Chandler Road.

about 2/3's the way to bloomfield the road is block by i think 2 fire trucks couple ambo's and cops. cant see the smash but they have a huge balloon type working light lighting up the whole area.

so im guess someone is pretty bad and there working to get them out ... only 2days till xmas and another family spending it in the hospital.

i know its not safe to do, but if there is 2/3 lanes of traffice going on way, i've dropped my speed down 5k's just to be that little bit more aware of whats goin on. people are panicking to get there last min shopping done and xmas cards dropped off they have tunnel vision. got cut off twice today also, one by a fully sick holden driver thinking its gonna make me race him. other was just plain stupid blind person not looking.

as the topic title says BE SAFE !

It's never nice being at the accident scene and from the photo's he would have been going at a fair rate of speed to uproot the tree. if the driver was drunk then driver is an idiot and the passengers shouldn't have jumped in the car. I've always said to mates when they want me to do something stupid "if i'm going to that...I rather do it with just me in the car as I don't want your death on my mind"

Man, it's like crazytown out the west the last couple of nights....I've almost had the front end of my car wiped out around knifepoint (highpoint) because people have been rushing to get stuff done twice already. I had a lady in a Tarago cut me off last night and then at the lights had a go at me for speeding up when she was cutting in (i was actually slowing down and had to sweve to avoid collision) but the worst of all she had her husband and her kids in the car she comes out yelling and screaming and then the husband comes out and tell her it would have been her fault as he told her not to change lanes as there was a car there (i was not in her blind spot)...husband apoligised and they went on their merry way

bloody psycho xmas mums !! relax they do it every year, its about time to plan and do ya xmas shopping when the first lot goes on retail sale (oct)

bloody wait till the last week, chuking prams into the back of peoples legs, like were not gonna say anything cause you have a pram !!!! AGHHH

i have to go southland soon :S gotta find some shin gaurds and bubble wrap

    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
    • Well they got my money but they are not getting my gearbox !
    • It's needed for rolling idle up, and I think it is a decider on VCT also.
    • I mean, not really. Link ECU's can absolutely still have errors from the ECU thinking it's getting a sensor it's not expecting. I would imagine the speed at the ECU level in Nistune does absolutely nothing anyway? I assume the ECU does not do any fancy TC stuff with regards to front+rear wheel speed or anything of that like anyway. Someone who uses Nistune may be more fluent in it.
