hi,

my mate took off my rocker covers and painted them for a Christmas present but when we took off the intake pipe we noticed my throttle body was putrid so we took off the throttle body and the plenum plus the aac valve and gave it a very good clean.

we put it all back together but now my car revs at 1200-1300rpm even when the car is fully warmed up,it used to rev at 800rpm.

any ideas? any help to fix this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Ive done what the guides told me,i warmed the car up and took off the brown plug that's connected to the aac valve and rotated the idle screw clockwise to decrease my idle but it only decreased by a fraction then i reconnected the plug.

in the thread it said to aim for 900rpm before reconnecting the brown plug but my car only went down to 1000rpm even with the idle screw nearly all the way in.

i even tried doing it how it said to in the other thread with disconnecting the TPS plug but ended with the same result.

so its at 1000rpm which is better then 1200-1300rpm.

but still shouldn't it go back to 800-850rpm where it was normally? i just don't know why it wouldn't go below 1000rpm?

any thoughts? last thing i want is to take it to a mechanic to charge me a fortune.

also i haven't messed with the idle screw on the ecu yet.

When my engine was re-built the builder clean my throttles. GTR throttles have a teflon coating which after many years of wear, plus the cleaning, no longer seal 100% hence the high idle. The carbon build up was probably sealing the throttle with its body. My idle screw is adjusted as far as it will go and the natural idle is 1400! but it's managed back to 1100 with the PowerFC. Not great but better than 1400. You can re-coat the throttle blades but this is (for me) a pain and expensive, so high idle it is....

That's my experience.

You have an air leak.

You've most likely broken the gasket either between plenum and AAC valve, or the TB and plenum, or you haven't reconnected a pipe properly.

Listen VERY closely for air leaks in whilst it's running, and use your hand to feel for them too.

The '+1' was referring to more ideas from fellow members for the user with the rev/idle issue.

I still believe it's air/vac related......(but want to know what it actually is!)...that's why I've asked for 'updates'.

i will check for an air leak but they are really hard to find because of the fan and the noise of the engine,i might have to take the plenum back off to make sure he put the gasket on properly.

any success with this issue mate?...updates?

i had a look around the plenum and intake pipes but there is that much air being blown around its nearly impossible to feel or hear for an air leak.

i had a listen at the back of the plenum and engine and there is a hissing noise but i don't know if that noise has always been there.

any ideas???

i think your right,i just read on a site cant remember what its called something bout skylines & GTR owners but there was a topic basically the same as mine and alot of them have the same problem after cleaning their throttle and plenum.

they say there is a seal which was covered with shit & they cleaned it but didn't realize they were cleaning off the seal as well and when put back together = in 1200rpm+ even with the idle screw all the way in.

did you know how much it will cost to fix? is it really expensive?

1. cut 3 ft of garden hose from the side of you house (or neighbors).

2. stick one end in your ear and use the other end to source the leak sound!

you now have a budget stethoscope ;-) i actually learnt this when i was an apprentice mechanic for jaguar lol...

god damn it!!!

my GTR has always idled high as - 1300-1400, tried everything. just got a powerFC and was hoping it helped the idle :( negative lol.

my tuner said he had expended every option except checking the throttle bodies for the coatings.

he also said the to get the idle back down to normal 800~ it would be expensive as!

its at about 1100 now but with my powerfc it hunts a fair bit. it will have to do lol

    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed 
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
    • Here's an idea, answer the questions I asked you as they are trying to work out WHY the LSD will be binding up in a straight line.
    • You haven't driven many modern cars then have you? Most of them have sfa steering feel with their stupid electric bullshit steering systems.
