Hey guys i just got home friday night from O.s in Japan, the Next day i was moving into my new house, i was driving along stud road with my g.f following behing in her car and suddenly a black SS cut her off to get behing me and a second later the red and blue flashing lights came on, i was strait away told to lift the hood( no breath test nothing) The police (Pettet of Knox station) told me i couldnt have my intercooler bleed valve pod etc etc. He gave me a minor defect and told me i have to get a enginearing certificate to certify the hole that the intercooler piping goes through and gave me 8 days to fix it (merry christmas)

can someone please explain what i have to get done to certify this.

I am hoping i dont need to put the stock cooler on and plug up the hole?

Has this happned to anyone else and what did you have to do to fix it?

thanks Ben

Pettet knows his stuff and has a reputation for targetting imports.

You are not able to make holes in the body of the car for piping. They will need to be repaired (covered/filled) for it to be satisfactory to the best of my knowledge. I suggest reading through the EPA thread as i'm sure this must have been covered before. My recommendation would be to get it to an engineer quick. You'll most likely have to remove the intercooler you are using unless you can get some custom piping to connect it another way.

As far as I was aware you can make holes so long as they are not structurally damaging hence the need for the Engineers cert. probably cost you a hundred bucks or there abouts to get it checked but good luck finding an auto engineer that is still open for business now. BUMMER!!

They only bring him out for special occasions.

Holes shouldn't have to be covered up, if it is decreasing the structural integrity you need someone to secure a steel plate around the hole to return it to how it was.

As for the other stuff your state differs to mine.

How nice of him to do this before Chrissy! Hopefully an engineer is working through it

Its going to be a pain. When my last car got defected, including the fine for illegal mods and the engineers certificate it cost just over $700. Back then (2004/5) the hole was ok and the engineer had no problems giving it the thumbs up. But now i hear you actually have to cover it up

i got done by that ass face too

i have to get a vass certificate, go for an epa test, not just the exhaust test (my exhaust is stock) get a rwc and also pay the fines

i dun mind paying its just time consuming

pettet ur really earning your 20k a year arnt you

LMAO

I was under the belief that in the series two r33 having the whole cut (if it is where I presume it is) was illegal because it effected the air bag sensor or something along those lines however it wasnt a problem if it was a series 1?? anyone care to expand on that probable useless information that I have...eventhough its probably too late for me now since I've cut the hole already.

Sounds right Zorb, remember hearing that too.

I think I must have been the only person Peteet didnt nail too bad. I only copped an EPA from him. However it was supposed to be a full test but he only submitted the option for exhaust noise.

There is a thread on the hole cutting. Do a search mate, its in this section and has all the info you need

Basically...

If your car came FACTORY with an airbag - he is right.

If your car came FACTORY without an airbag - he is wrong, so take him to court. I would and you'll win.

But find the thread and read it, if you cant PM me and ill have a go at it over the next couple of days

If the pic in your avatar is your car then the cooler hole should be fine since yours is a series 1, as for the bleed valve, im assuming that is a boost controller, very easy to remove for an rwc, the front mount plus pod is something everyone either knows about or should know about, only 1 inlet mod allowed in vic, so either you have to put the standard intercooler back on and keep your pod or put a factory airbox in and keep your front mount, and unless you making good power or want the wank factor of the induction noise an airbox with a good panel filter does the same as a pod any way.

he's just doing his job.

i got sent to the EPA ONE DAY after picking up the car from a respray, new turbos, tune etc etc... he wasn't an arsehole, nor was I, but legally, he was right - i went to the EPA and sorted it.

yes, he does a lot of skylines, but he also does a LOT of shitboxes too - I was having a chat with him. There is no "shitboxesaustralia" so you don't hear about him getting these wheezers off the road!

    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
