DMAN#20
hey guys i have had this only happen once yesterday, the clutch is a exedy five button and has only 2000kms on it with only a few hard launches. its in an r32 gtr with 265kwatw. my question is this common or does it need some sort of adjustment? something else to mension i wasnt driving around for long when i gave it some stick! 89CAL
hmmm your rear main seal has begun to leak and some oil got on your clutch maybe? or your clutch may have just had some clutch dust or something on it from over use? DMAN#20
the engine has 3000kms on it since rebuild with r33 crank and n1 oil pump, so i hope its not the rear main, and i have hardly driven the car. 89CAL
well as long as the engine is putting out less power then what the clutch is designed for (or a similar amount of power even) then it shouldnt just slip for no reason. maybe it just needs to bed in if its only just been installed but if it was done with the engine then im not sure it shouldnt be slipping is it doing it all the time? Beer Baron
well whatever it is get it sorted asap. slipping clutch will only get worse. and if it's just a simple set-up thing allowing it to slip will just wear the clutch out quick smart. I would say it's set-up/install problem. possibly wrong length sleeve/bearing carrier used, or the take up point incorrectly set-up so that the clutch is not completely engaging etc. the other thing is it could be a faulty pressure plate, or even just a clutch not up to the job. but i'm still banking on set-up/install since it's so new. and3_3
Was the flywheel machined or replaced during the install? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/250009-clutch-slip-in-3rd-under-full-load/#findComment-4334737 Share on other sites
DMAN#20
brand new lightened flywheel! it had previously a hyper twin plate which was undriveable, the take up point was very short, this clutch had only 1000kms on it, so i sold it and got the button type Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/250009-clutch-slip-in-3rd-under-full-load/#findComment-4335027 Share on other sites
No Crust Racing
Pressure plate is certainly a possibility if it was not replaced. They fatigue over time and if you have a new clutch the clamping pressure will be higher which is more strain on your pressure plate. The 6-spd tremec in the VY SS I sold a while back had this issue. Take it back to where you had it installed, get them to sort it. Quick smart like Baron said, slip = wear. DMAN#20
OK heres the low down, spoke to exedy mel. today and they said that the sports tuff heavy duty button clutch that i have will only support 400 - 450hp at flywheel, seeing as i have 360hp at all wheels they say that it is border line and that i should go for a hyper twin plate setup. Ive already had one of these and it was undriveable! Any suggestions???
