I just heard something I would have expected not to hear from one of my friends.

From what she said, after the nats had cleared out and everyone went to Braddon about 10 or so Skylines in a group were acting like Bogans. Burnouts, hooing around, shouting 'White Shirt' sticking their fingers up at whoever cared to look, and most of all throwing bottles at other peoples cars.

Now I know alot of people who get pissed off, if not everyone, if a Bogan driving a commodore pulled up at the light and just as the lights turned green they pegged a beer bottle at ur door causing a rather big dent.

Only problem with this is it wasnt one bottle it was well over a case.

I'm personally ashamed if anyone on this forum was part of this, as us skylines already have enough problems being targeted by cops as it is.

I know there is alot of skylines around, but the cops dont care.

Personally I'm alot more relieve now that the nats are finished as I can drive up and down flemmington without getting defected.

That's just pityful. Someone needs a good hit to the back of the head if that is true.

My car stayed in the garage the whole time over the weekend because of the nats.

Does anyone know if there are other 'Skyline' clubs in the ACT? It's just odd to see 10 skylines being disrespectful, i'd understand one or two as they could be mates, but 10 is pretty much a gang mentality...

Who the hell shouts out 'White Shirt' ?????

there are quite a few skyines out there that carry on like wankers and give everyine a bad, there was also a couple of skylines from interstate driving round for hours on friday night.

i dought it very much it was anyone from skylines australia/ ACT

I know of at least one idiot in a black R33 Gtst with a big "drift" style body kit who hoons around the Calwell / Theodore area making a bad name for us by driving like a complete moron... I wouldnt be surprised if he was involved.

The problem is that Summernats brings out the worst in so called "car enthusiasts" and the pack mentality takes over... I personally wouldnt be upset if the Summernats was relocated to Sydney or Melbourne.

This is exactly why my car stayed in the garage during almost this whole event.

I must say I did see quite a few Skylines driving around that I didn't recognise. The ones that acted badly are more than welcome to piss off back to wherever they came from :D

my car was out but i steered well clear of civic braddon and exhibition park during summernats. so glad its finished lol.

I'm with Bullet32, wouldn't give a shit if summernats was moved interstate as it seems to bring out a lot of wankers each and every year.

bring autosalon to canberra!!! much better cars and better looking models :D

thats wierd coz i was down in civic and braddon both nights and hardly saw any skylines, not sayin they wernt there, coz obviously they were.

I reckon i saw about 8 crusing all up!! And we had 1 dude in a R33 that was trying to race us in my mates VLT.. wanker. considering there were 2 unmarked cops behind us!

Im in the same boat as the ACT guys, wouldnt really bother me if summernats goes away (i go to canberra fairly often living 2 1/2 hrs away)

I also think they should have the same alchol restrictions as powercruise (no alcohol till 7pm) if it keeps goin

IF its true

99% it wouldnt be SAU members - ACT or Interstaters.

But as per there is the 1% ers. Throwing bottles FFS :D Grrrrrrr

DR DOOF is just taking the Piss about Twoogle ;) . It's not running ATM.

We all like wild fun at the right time. Assess Time/Place/Risk/Safety before lighting em up.

it was that gus kid.

see as the story goes...when he was younger he used to hang around mister jimmy the jester and big bad mick. all they could feed him was storys about raging against the machine and dancing around cars with disco lights on top of them. he grew up with high hopes for what would happen when the sun went down and braddon became a beer filled paradise full of blueys beer and the one guy stupid enough to drive his lancer through us all.

so when he got older what did he do but follow his peers jimmy the jester and big bad mick.....he bought a skyline.

and now this "gus" character is known as mister three two and my god...what a beast. drifting around round abouts...showing vl turbos that nissan engines are better that dinosaur technology, and spitting in the face of all the true jap fanboys (i mean really, cars are ment to do burnouts not be "appreciated"). and when he sees a woman all he needs to do is single her out by shouting the colour of her top and she knows. o she knows. the disco lights kept going and the burnouts kept on spinning.

and then.

the world died...summernats left...the disco lgihts stopped and it was like hell on earth. no more girls to yell at or beer to drink. no more thrashing cars or abusing people that were there for a "good time" (good time...who the fk appreciates cars these days ....BURNOUTS...)

so what did gus do...

powercruise motherf**kers

*the names jimmy the jester and big bad mick in no way reflect people gus actually knows

Thats gold Gus,

I remember the old days when you bummed lifts off us all to go out to Lonsdale street during the Nats... I have to admit, they were good times, and somehow none of us ever really got caught up to much in the atmosphere of grog, burnouts and tits.

But us proper entusiasts grow up while bogan idiots dont, we go to car shows like Autosalon (some of us go to SEMA) where cars can be appreciated as works of art and people of all backgrounds (be it muscle, tuner or bling etc) can get their fix of quality automotive culture without getting into a fight with some Jap car hater or having to stress about what idiot will jump out of the crowd to grab your girlfriends chest.

I personally cant see the point in burnouts (especially being a tyre man) it doesnt take skill to smoke tyres, all it takes is horsepower and a heavy right foot.

If you want your monthly dose of tyre smoke and hardcore cars, go to a drift round...

Its time for the Summernats to move on...

My two cents

    • I hope it's actually possible. This is a write off in insurance world.
    • Yup. 2-way with shallow ramp angles. Still works.
    • That was the first session so not a lot to take from the day. It was low 20s ambient and the coolant had got to 110 (and obviously had some pressure!) so that still needs to be addressed. I haven't downloaded the data yet but will. I had refilled the auto trans with Redline DT6 because it claimed the best viscosity I could find at 100o. It wasn't really long enough to get a good feel for that; while the trans got to 100o in the session it still wasn't shifting crisply as I hoped. I think I'll try a few more sessions before judging. No steering motor overheat but I'd hope not in only 1 session! But finally the suspension; it was night and day over the standard stuff and the car was a couple of seconds quicker on the same crappy tyres, which is a huge difference. I'll stick with that and get some sway bars and a mechanical diff sorted too and see how that all goes together
    • I guess it’s partially a compromise of how my car is used, wanting to be able to switch from drift to grip with track side on-car adjustment. Also partially with the way the knuckles are set there is more static camber but less dynamic camber gain.
    • OK, so update from the track day on Friday It was a classic "an unfortunate series of events'. There were a few cars around and when i checked my mirror coming out of the fish hook I notice some smoke from the rear of mine. Looked again and it was getting much worse, I figured I'd blown a turbo or something to got off it and pulled off the racing line. However.... since it is a left hairpin into a right kink, I was on the inside of the next corner. There was a car passing me on the left and a big drop off over the ripple strip on the right......and someone had knocked the witch's hat that was on the apex about 1m onto the track. So, between those 3, I decided to mow down the cone and not damage my car/the other car. Right choice, but surprising result.  The car decided the cone was a small pedestrian so it blew the rear bonnet hinges up to protect their head in the upcoming person to car impact....I didn't see that coming and like an airbag deployment it happened super fast. Straight into the pits from there, everything was driving fine but it became clear it was a coolant leak not smoke, it was billowing up onto the windscreen. Onto the trailer and home. I'll do a separate thread about the repair (once I work out what it is ), but the immediate problem was the bonnet wouldn't open because the front was pinched onto the front bar and would not release. Ultimately we unbolted the hinge from the bonnet, pulled it back a little and it released from the front OK. "There's your problem", the top radiator hose had popped off at the radiator.
