damn mines the same way to. but way neater then that.

just a question when you do get these kind of defect where you need to get an engineers certificate how long do you get to get it all fixed up and checked up???

also ever since iv painted my cooler black you cant even see its there so thats one less thing for cops to spot when they first see you. all they would see no is a short currie dude driving a stock looking R34 with exhaust and lowered slightly lol.

well hope i dont get pulled over and get done bad (so far just got a warning for the pod only. didnt say anything about cooler). im always over at my mates house around the corner from you luke so ye just gotta be careful now.

touch wood lol.

but ye let me know how you go with it all. and also bee keen to know if the hole is allowed to be patched up???

also what if the hole was there but no cooler pipe going through it??? they woudlnt really notice the hole in that case...would they???

Doesn't this still require cutting to the reo - which you could get defected for?

Yes, but at this point of time the police are aiming for and defecting cars with the hole through the engine bay. A reo is also a lot more easy and cheaper to replace than fixing/engineering the hole.

Point is that with the return pipe you do not cut any more holes into the car and you use the factory pipes in the engine bay, so it looks more stockish too.

They cant do anything if your not in the car.
Don't know where you got that info mate.

They can send you a letter in the mail stating that you are to take the car to your local police station, for a routine inspection, due to the suspicion that the car is illegally modified. They give you a week to take the car to the police station, otherwise the registration will be canceled.

Consider yourself lucky they didn't do that to you.

7 friggin days!

I mean come on, i'm going to have to go through so many procedures to get it fixed in time. I thought the officer would have been slightly more lenient.

I'm still unsure what to do.

I need a VASS certificate (A requirement on the defect notice) which i cannot get because as others have pointed out, an engineer won't sign off on it.

Do i fix it and get it road worthied first then get a VASS certificate? Why would i need a VASS certificate if the problem has been resolved?

I'm screwed.

Ashneel, do you drive the white r34 exactly like mine? You usually park outside my house.

Pettet knew exactly what to look for. Within 2 seconds of approaching my window: "Pop the bonnet". Takes the flashlight out and goes straight for the hole without checking whether or not the car had an FMIC.

oh!...wonderful!!...thankyou!

I wonder if we can fit something like that.....very nice.

I'll return it to stock. Who knows, i'll install one of these and Pettet would defect me for having a shiny intercooler that is distracting to other drivers. Can't win.

Priority is getting it stock.

yeap. but only parked outside your house once. i normally come in your court to do a u turn lol. mates is just around the corner on lakeside.

Lukey..I know you know that I feel your pain right now....and you have a good crew of friends here already assisting you with advice....and as scary as some of it is, it's not insurmountable.

I'll help you get through this, and so will your friends here too bro. (whether we sell or fix the car!!)

I know you feel pretty down right now, it's a gorgeous machine, and as long as you still love it, we'll fix it.

Have you rang Tony yet?

Has the Silvia been fixed yet, (you may need it for a few days, or you can borrow my Festiva).

Keep us all informed anyway it'll be interesting if there's any engineers out there (surely there's one?) who would sign off on it. Maybe with a cash adjustment their way too

My brother 'superspit' is picking up my car from work in an hour or two to take to an engineer to see if it can be done.

We'll see what happens. Somehow i think it's not gonna happen

Cool, i couldn't believe it the first time i saw it. I thought someone had moved my car into the court!

Sounds like a nice machine, wouldn't mind a closer look at it if you're in the area one of these days :-)

    • Just bought a 2002 Stagea 250tRS VR-X Four AERO VQ25DET and spent the last two weekends cleaning and detailing it.. still have to do the wheels and the engine bay but the rest of it came up nice. Imported 2011 to S.A. and I'm the third owner since it was imported. I met the guy who brought it over, he went to Japan and picked out the car, bought it and ordered the wheels. He also gave me a list of stuff he did to the car with receipts. Coil overs (I have the original springs), 3" exhaust from the dump pipe back no cat, Custom dump pipe,(I have the original exhaust), Plenum spacer, 18" custom Work XSA wheels (need restoring, I've made a start..), Shift kit put through the 5 speed tiptronic auto, TV and menus/screens changed to english, Australian DTV tuner installed in rear. I've just had four new discs and new pads as well as all the fluids including the brake fluid replaced. I have all the receipts for the last 15 years and the import papers in a nice folder. Car looks great, goes like hell but fuel economy is not a thing lol.. pics next..
    • I ended up in this rut again lol, and used a shit ton of filler. One thing I can't understand is, even after using a big long block and going in long X pattern strokes, I always end up at bare metal again with no filler, and my repair started at one end of the door and now I've chased my tail to almost the other end of the door. I was thinking of hitting the panel with a hammer where it might be a high spot and making everything low then filling it, I did this on a small section on my other door by mistake and I think I fixed it lol. Is this a bad idea? The other thing is with guidecoat, whether it's the powder or spray, after I sand all the guide coat off, it doesn't reveal anything for me in terms of high spots and low spots and makes it especially hard when it's bare metal (at least in powdered form), am I doing something wrong here, or likely a high spot I keep going over and creating valleys? Lastly, stupid question but, is it possible that after sanding if I only sand over the filler area where I know to be a dent that it's impossible for me to dig into that dent? Unless there are other problems which I missed.
    • Yeah the rule of thumb with an LS is 7psi per 1000rpm. That is decidedly not enough at 6800rpm. I mainly looked for the scenarios where knock started to be picked up and it was later in the session when things were hotter, and oil was thinner, and the pressure was lower than it should be. (i.e very horrible). I am hoping with thicker oil (I was running Penrite ten tenths 10-40, the manual specifies 10-30) that does not leak that it's much improved at that time!!! I am using Project Mu Club Racer CR pads. I'm also using the Project Mu 335C fluid. The symptoms imply that it was fluid that boiled, but no bubbles seemed pretty weird to me when I bled it today. I want to try Castrol SRF as it has a much higher wet temp but, well, I have new Project Mu fluid lol... so I should at least use that. The pedal on track was really noticable. It went from basically normal feeling to instantly near-floor. The car did pull up as before, it was just very much nearly at the floor before the brakes engaged. At that point I pretty much decided the day was very done, it did *kinda* come back during that very slow cooldown lap into the pits. Felt perfectly fine driving home.
