I read your comment, saw what car you had listed next to your name, and wondered what you're doing on a nissan forum? :verymad: (scratches head) I dont mind if you like nissans, i mean thats why we're all on here right? Welcome - maybe we'll convert you yet?

Perhaps you misread him.

"it had to be the safety car. its the only way it would ever get to the front of a v8 supercar without hidding a boost controller in the ash tray...."

he's saying that they couldn't get infront because turbo v6's are not allowed (eg, hiding boost controller in ash tray so its not discovered), not because the GT-R is slow

possibly. Wasn't having a go at him, just putting forward the other side of the story. Note all the smileys :P

I interpreted it this way: Its implying that the GTR needs more boost to get in front. If it was meaning the GTR couldn't COMPETE because of the turbo's, why not just say so?

I reckon the GTR could still win with a tweaked v8 from the superGT cars. I'd rather see it with turbos but if the rules say v8, then they've got that option there. However my honest opinion is that even if another manufacturer came up with a 5L v8 car with all the right specs, there would magically appear some other "rule" banning them from entry. And the worst part is, that just competing and winning doesn't automatically make you a favourite with the fans. You're competing with people most of whom own holdens and fords at home. I'd rather see a new racing genre with a more open playing field from the start...and leave the V8's be.

the aussie v8 super car event is closed to non-australian built production cars.

that's correct. it's basically a hollow shell of a racing series designed to keep commo's and falcons selling. pretty piss poor really, isn't it.

Well doesn't that just suck...I had to go out today and got home about 4:00. Still in time to watch the last hour of the clipsal 500 - thought I should get to see the GTR parade around the track at least once (was thinking for sure there'd be an accident or something requiring the safety car)...

sure enough - safety car was called, and what do they do? ad break. Didn't get to see it at all!!

Yes I did watch the race for over an hour just to spot the safety car...and now I'm disappointed. :)

Maybe I'll have to watch the race start next time. Anyone got pics from today?

Yeah, it sucks because 7 uses pace car periods to cash up on sponsorship funds.

But if you keep watching they come back just before the pace car period ends. You'll notice that for the last 1/4 of a lap before peeling off, the GT-R driver gives it the berries and fair vanishes into the distance before driving into pit lane. He's meant to bring the race cars up to race speed when the pace car period ends.

On more than one occasion it caught the race cars sleeping.

lol.

I think you'll find it's more a case of the P1 car bunching the pack up before trying to catch them off guard when he boots it...

Same i watched the race and when you see the start of pack with the pace car hmm lets just show another camera angle, dont they use if for advertisement i wonder if nissan will do it next year.

And boy do i miss the days when it was an production car race, I wonder how many fans the supertaxi's lost when it all changed.

I'll get to see the real thing this Friday at the Australian Grand Prix, should be one of the highlights. i'm going to stir the V8 Super bogans with. "Now that's a real touring car" "too bad those Taxi's couldn't beat the GT-R!" I love giving them shit!

I don't understand why you people watch this race when you seem to despise the vehicles raced in it and the general demographic of the programming?

Edited by Birds
No more GTR as the Safety Car , V8SC have signed a deal with XXXX for signage on the SC and in Nissans contract it said no alcohol advertising , so we're back to commodores

BUGGER

Gay, I seriously would have watched a few mins of it v8 supertaxis just to see it roll around the track

Race? Looks more like a game of "follow the leader" :) too far?

Actually I dont mind bathurst. I'll look past the cars and everything for that one cos it really is a good race. Not sure why I like it better, maybe its the increased tension and therefore more chance of a good prang? (so long as no one is seriously hurt - no one likes that!!)

Im happy to watch most motorsport categories, but for most, only in small doses. If I see V8 Supercars, I'll watch it for 10 mins, but I would never call myself a fan. Like a few here I tuned in just to see the GT-R perform its safety car functions which was a of greater interest than the V8 race.

The other thing is people who grew up with Group A or Group C Touring cars with multiple manufacturers (like myself) lement the passing of this where we could see Skyline GT-R or Ford Sierra or BMW M3 or Mazda RX-7.. and even a Bathurst winning Jaguar XJS!. Generation Y will only know V8 Supercars...but once upon a time it was so much better, so it's a bitter pill for us Gen Xer's and Baby Boomers. We like Tin Top Touring car racing...but don't like the current rules. Hope that makes sense to the youngsters out there..

    • By popular demand.. it was a coil. Got my hands on 1 new OEM coil, replaced with the one that made the less noise difference when I unplugged it while the car was running and started the car up. No stutter and the engine light was gone. I guess I’ll buy the other 5 they have lol
    • No, code 21 is very straightforward. It can only be the things described in that diagnostic flow. In fact it has no way of knowing that the spark plug resistance is out of spec.
    • Hi, SteveL Thank you very much for your reply, you seem to be the only person on the net who has come up with a definitive answer for which I am grateful. The "Leak" was more by way of wet bubbles when the pedal was depressed hard by a buddy while trying to gey a decent pedal when bleeding the system having fitted the rebuilt BM50 back in the car, which now makes perfect sense. A bit of a shame having just rebuilt my BM50, I did not touch the proportioning valve side of things, the BM50 was leaking from the primary piston seal and fluid was running down the the Brake booster hence the need to rebuild, I had never noticed any fluid leaking from that hole previously it only started when I refitted it to the car. The brake lines in the photo are "Kunifer" which is a Copper/Nickel alloy brake pipe, but are only the ones I use to bench bleed Master cylinders, they are perfectly legal to use on vehicles here in the UK, however the lines on the car are PVF coated steel. Thanks again for clearing this up for me, a purchase of a new BMC appears to be on the cards, I have been looking at various options in case my BM50 was not repairable and have looked at the HFM BM57 which I understand is manufactured in Australia.
    • Well the install is officially done. Filled with fluid and bled it today, but didn't get a chance to take it on a test drive. I'll throw some final pics of the lines and whatnot but you can definitely install a DMAX rack in an R33 with pretty minor mods. I think the only other thing I had to do that isn't documented here is grind a bit of the larger banjo fitting to get it to clear since the banjos are grouped much tighter on the DMAX rack. Also the dust boots from a R33 do not fit either fyi, so if you end up doing this install for whatever reason you'll need to grab those too. One caveat with buying the S15 dust boots however is that the clamps are too small to fit on the R33 inner tie rod since they're much thicker so keep the old clamps around. The boots also twist a bit when adjusting toe but it's not a big deal. No issues or leaks so far, steering feels good and it looks like there's a bit more lock now than I had before. Getting an alignment on Saturday so I'll see how it feels then but seems like it'll be good to go
