hi everyone

The time has come where the clutch in my ser2 RS4s is on its way out. so now i need to find a better one. im aware that the gearbox is the same as or similar to an r33 gtr, so im guessing i need to use a GTR clutch. but what would be the most suitable for a stagea?? searching for info on gtr clutches only finds clutches for serious HP applications, which seems overkill for a stagea that will never see more than say 200awkw max.

so has anyone got a good suggestion?? has anyone out there done a clutch in thier stag?? where did u get it??

and before anyone says it, i have no interest in a rebuilt or modified standard clutch so dont bother suggesting that. im after brand new off the shelf stuff like exedy or OSG

i have a cushion button supplied by UAS clutch supplier which is reasonable to use with >240rwkw but i would choose an organic clutch with higher clamp than standard next time.

i have a jim berry organic with decent clamp on the R33 with >275rwkw and this is much easier to live with day to day. due to weight the stagea is a bit more of a pain to get off the line.

My standard clutch held on with 265rwkw in my RS4S but you could not launch it at all. I replaced it with a cushion button GTR clutch and although it bites a little bit I can dial up the revs and dump the clutch and the stagea just squats and checks out!

if you were only going 2000rwkw and only street driving without launches then i would replace it with a stock or mild ceramic clutch.

They are quite expensive though being a GTR base clutch and not GTST.

Check out www.exedy.com.au website or www.xtremeclutch.com.au

give norm brown a ring from Bendigo Brake and Clutch a call. 0354423187

Give him the application and he will build one if he doesan`t have it on the shelf. our 260Z / RB25 around 350 WHP and my exa , no problem

Whooa 2000rwkw thats gonna be a mad wagon. :P

my clutch in on the way out slowly aswell . in 2wd duing a launch /skid take off it will spin the wheels in first , slap second and it spins the clutch. but in 4wd it does mint launches( hardle ever eg done 5 in 6 months) good controlled amount of slippage and prefect launch from 4k and then into second it doesnt slip . im looking at getting a cushioned button clutch . so its gonna be nice and bitey , not a complete pain in the arse everyday and last a while . i acctually enjoy driving a brass clutch . flat mate has a done up rex with a lightened flywheel and a brass puk clutch and i enjoy driving it like its normal .

so has anyone decided which model clutch we need ? only real info i found was one website that actually had rb25det AWD had it lumped in with 260RS and r34gtr . the exedy UK website has listings for the 260RS under its model selector

just pull it out and measure your fly wheel saves stuffing around guys most places can get them over night so not a big drama saves getting one then stuffin around sending it back . i think off the top of my head mine was 260mm acros the flat im running a ceramic clutch in mine has heaps of bite but can be a pain in high traffic .before this i had a exedy heavy duty and it held 255awkw for ages only changed it due to my new engine build . i would def go another heavy duty one if i kept same power they have a heavy pedal feel as well

Any chance on getting the part number for the Exedy Clutch when you get it. Just incase I look at doing mine in the future.

Thanks

Dave

will do. i just gotta make sure that im getting the right one then i'll post it up.

Get an NPC clutch. You can find them in the Skyline clutch section. They are cheap to rebuilt compared to the others. Driveability will be normal.

i know i'll prob get flamed for this, but i dont ever use rebuilt clutches. if they break or stop working properly i throw them away and buy a new one. i also dont use machined brake rotors. before anyone says it i know its probably safe use these items, but i just dont like to. its a personal preference. i guess id consider it if i spent like $3K on a clutch, but i'll cross that bridge when i come to it.

    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
    • So, now all you need to do is connect the 2 or 3x 12v feeds into the unit to permanent 12v, ACC 12V and IGN 12V that you can find in the spot behind the stereo, and the earth, and then it will switch on with the car.
