Hey, i have a post similar running in general but i thought the n/a thread might be better suited.

I'm 17 and me and my father are going to begin looking for a n/a skyline, you see i have my heart set on this really nice one off the internet but my dad says that we cant just go and buy it because we need to see what others feel and drive like (i can see where his coming form) My dad has never driven a skyline, nor have i for that fact. so i was wondering if there were any import dealers or dealers with a few n/a r33's in Melbourne we could take a look at before we test drive the private seller.

Is the drive different from S1-s2 i know wear and tear due to age my make them feel different. so if you guys could let me know if there good dealers witch would most likely have any Manual 2 door r33s non turbos. Please provide location too please.

thank you, im asking due to the fact i live out in geelong way and theres nothing out here :action-smiley-069:

Cheers Nick ;)

hello nick

have you tried looking at carsales website? there's plenty of manual non-turbo skylines posted on their website.. you just have to make an inquiry about the car you're interested in.. the dealer will send you their info where they are located..

there is also a written thread here about buying skylines.. have a read thru that.. it tells you everything.. very informative i'd say.. it will help you in a lot of ways..

get all the information you need.. dont rush into buying a car that you'll regret later on..

i wouldnt be able to tell the drive difference between S1 & S2 skylines.. i just recently bought an n/a 4 door skyline last october.. this is the 1st time im owning a skyline.. but as far as i know, there isnt much difference between the 2..

there is also an importer in the dandenong area.. i cant remember where it was situated.. i will let you know if i remember their details.. maybe SAU members who live near that area knows it too..

i hope that helps..

cheers

Nice car, Personly looking for a a rwd, but tahts a fair clean s2. Actually looking to testdrive some dealers, before we head off and check out a nice s1 gts pirvate seller.

Nick

yeh carsales is a good place, does it have to be from a dealer... private cars will probably be cheaper, personally think S2 look better, but im being biased caus i own one..

i bought my Na from SSV in Oakleigh on Princess highway, car is now turbo and still hasnt missed a beat..

look around, test drive, get it inspected by a mechanic or those RACV checks and you should be all good..

Just looking at dearlers to have a drive before we look at the private seller coz me and my dad dont know how skylines are, want to drive a few to know whats good and what to avoid.

Nick

I was in the exact same boat, except I'm in Perth. Basically I'm an idiot and me and dad bought first one we looked at. Turned out to be a great car with absolutely no issues other than getting another alternator. I reckon its just pot luck.. GL with that though.

Thanks :P yeh i guess u were pretty lucky that u didnt buy a car that ran like S#$T. im just taking same saftey mesures to prevent it happening, and melbourne has a fair few so its no troble, im actually heading up there tomorrow to check out some private sellers ;) Yay

Nick

whatever way you decide to go, be prepared to be shocked at insurance prices...

dont get much cheaper than just under $2k a year for full comp, and thats with no mods...

suggest going through GIO (custom cars) and paying by the month, unless you can afford the 2k in one hit :D

read up on the threads, visit some dealers (tho i know there arnt many dealers with NAs in melb atm)

your best bet would be buying off someone on SAU, that way you know the car has been genuinely looked after :D

go for a test drive, that way you will have a feel for what kind of quality and condition to expect for your dollar. go see both dealers and private sellers as they will sell cars of varying quality and price.

click on my signature for a link to the car that i'm selling, this might give you a little perspective on what may be available on the 2nd hand market.

You should also be prepared with another 2k for basic maintenance items when you purchase the car - who knows how well the last owner took care of the car.

As a start and peace of mind you will need:

- Timing belt

- Accessory belts

- New fluids - oil (and filter) and coolant as a minimum, the other fluids such as trans and diff can be changed a little later or according to budget.

- Top and bottom radiator hoses.

- Depending on funds - replace other items such as spark plugs, brakes, shocks, tires depending on their condition

    • Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. Bit of a gruesome job though, pouches generally need to be cut open because they are so tight and often the joey doesn't realise mum is gone so they are still locked onto the teat. I checked the modules in front of the DS wheel where an oil cooler should go.... There is the radar unit - that can go for race use) One of the 2 HX water pumps, the silver cylinder. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno
    • Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.
    • BTW I measured the jack I have, it is 70mm at the saddle but you only have about 700 until it returns to 150mm high at the cylinder so it is good but no magic bullet.
    • My experience with Rising Sun Exports Before agreeing to the sale I tried to do as much research as I could (obviously), his Facebook reviews are 98% and he goes Live at least once or twice a week. I contacted 2 people in the UK who had used him for their imports, both had positive feedback. His explanation and talk through of the import process was thorough, answering any query no matter how stupid it was. It felt as soon as the money was sent, communication dropped off. I asked for shipping updates every 2 weeks or so, not wanting to pester him, he never had any updates. I wasn't informed the car had been dropped off at the port, I only found out by his Facebook story. I asked for the photos taken at the port, knowing he would need some for insurance purposes. I received a few 5 second clips and that's it. When asked again, he said his staff had them. Weeks later I asked again, he tells me he doesn't have any, but does have 50 photos from the original advert. I never received them. I eventually got the documents sent via WhatsApp after I mentioned the port was requesting them. I purchased a CarVX report, to find out the vehicle is a Grade R with recorded accident damage, first recorded in 2017 when it was first auctioned. He never told me the grade, then again I didn't ask. His response was "Grade R means nothing, it wasn't chassis damage". Still, I would have liked to have been informed about it. Jon prides himself on being open and honest when it comes to inspecting cars, it's his main job doing so at the auctions for customers. When the vehicle arrived in the UK I noticed a few little cosmetic issues. It's a 21 year old car so it wasn't going to be mint condition. The side skirts are cracked on each corner and the sealant is failing. The front grill on the bonnet/hood isn't secured very well, mounting studs are missing. Both minor things, but again, it would have been nice to be told. During a Facebook Live walk around video of the vehicle, he mentioned it has a front Whiteline anti roll bar/sway bar. While on the inspection ramp, I noticed the stock item has been installed. When first questioned, his response was "the ARB? Switched? Since when, it never had them". Since sending video and photo evidence I've not received a response. I'm probably being over critical of the overall condition of an old car, but all I wanted was honesty (which he claims to have). I'm aware I wasn't his only customer, he's busy doing XYZ but other reviews praise him for great communication with regular updates and photos, I felt I didn't receive the same treatment.
    • I was able to get some underside photos while the car was on the ramp The suspension is all Altezza/IS200/IS300 so getting part's will hopefully be less of a headache
