according to Neil, a turbo timer means the car runs longer then the period of time "needed" to drive, therefore it increases pollution = major defect

I'm not agreeing... don't shoot the messenger :)

:) That is the silliest reason I've ever heard! That means me leaving my car to idle for a few minutes is defectable

Quote for Truth;

And that is why I want to see the documentation, not just here-say be it from a police officer or the general public.

why are turbo timers illeagle? alot of diesels and trucks have them standard

I've heard two arguments about TT's.

1. That anything that keeps a cars ignition running (aka a TT) can be fatal in a crash due to keeping the engine running while the ignition circuit is turned off (I really dont know about this)

2. TT's can leave a car turned on and unsupervised, which can be an issue if there are children in said vehicle.

There was another argument about TT's being legal as long as its part of your security system, but I really don't know :)

Funny thing is Turbo Timers havent been required on Nissans since liquid cooled turbos were introduced....In other words if you drive your early model ET Pulsar hard then maybe, other than that they are dangerous wank with no fit purpose other than to keep Constable Neil busy :)

your assumption is a little infair... (edit) i have oil cooled turbos... hence my common sence tells me that when the turbos are hot if not let to cool down the oil will boil and harden in the lines?

c'mon matei dont think treating me like a child is neccessary.. i was asking a serious on topic question and yes i let my car warm and cool accordingly often withought using timer.. neway this is getting off topic

I didnt know/care you had oil cooled turbochargers, you added this good on you. We have 2 x GTRs with oil cooled turbochargers the slowest having run 9.5 @ 149.5mph, so there is no doubt they work.

In the old days oil cooled turbos needed to be cooled down to stop the oil carbonising/coking and binding the rear seal/blocking the oil feed. With todays modern synthetic oils this is a thing of the past (unless of course you use Homebrand in the engine). Dont worry about hardening the feed lines on a Skyline, they are steel - the harder the better :) There endeth todays lesson.

P.S. I am old I treat everyone as though they are younger than me, as they probably are :D

Mark if you dont want your GTR hard pipping hit me up lol

Turbo timers just cause problems when the police come over for a chat about your car. its not that hard to sit in it for an extra 40 seconds before you turn it off ;p

At the end of the day it seems easier to try and get along with the police then prove who is right.

Producing invoicing for work completed or at least 'safety checked' by a pro is the fair and proper way to do things. . The police would like to see evidence of a qualified professional doing the job.

so does this mean i have to keep all my receipts of all completed work by a "PRO" workshop in my glove box????

so if i get pulled over i just show the police officer them and he will be more lenient or even let you off???

i dont bloody think so!!!!

damn if this was true i'd go back to my old topmount set up!!!!

if u choose to modify your car then you take the risk of getting defected no matter what police officer it is, showing receipts wont change anything!!!

Exactly, however Ruby is stating is that Neil shows respect for those that 'maintain' and have modifications performed by pro's as it cuts out the backyarder aspect out which 'can' be extremely dangerous.

There's no way of policing the backyarder so by simply stating if mods performed are by a pro (providing the mod is not a major mod) :P then you won't be bent over for stupid little things if it is suspected your car is just a 'little' unroadworthy. i.e slightly too low, tint or slightly loud exhaust.

If the Police decide to do a random inspection at one of the events regardless if people are behaving (which really should have been cleared up at the meeting) those with anything around the turbo area (different turbo elbow, different actuator etc) that doesn't look stock will be pinged. Suspected different turbo is considered a major mod.

Lets be honest, its Neil job to keep the roads clean and safe. High powered street cars can be extremely dangerous in the wrong hands.

Neil isn't to know if your daily 500hp+ car only see's full throttle at Mallala or down Anzac Dragway/Port road fri/sat nights.

Which brings me to highflows. Its easy to tell if a RB20/Rb25DET has a highflow. RB26DETT not so. :)

All it takes is a little measurement between the comp cover and turbine housing (from underneath). A trained eye and torch can pick it near instantly without having to measure.

So don't think your safe if you have a GT28,gt30 or slide t3/4 shoved in to your comp/turbine covers as its easily picked.

Unless your running the std turbo with only an intercooler, pod and exhaust its just a matter of time before they catch on and your pinged for 'engine modifications'

As i have already stated above, Neil advised that it "wouldn't be a regular thing"... So anyone with any sense would know there will always be the risk of being inspected. Reuben, Ben and i covered alot in the meeting, and i feel we've given adequate feedback... If anyone else thinks they can do a better job, then friggen go for it!!!!

Actually i am

and therefore;

i am better qualified.

:P

and dont worry guys, you did a frigging great job! its just turning to specific things now which is something that needs to be discussed further with sapol etc... so fingers crossed neil joins up and we can have an open conversation about these things :)

i use to have a highmount set up and when neil popped my bonnet Neil said "everything looks standard" (the entire engine is black)...im like WTF????

but im sure he no's a hell alot more about "Modified cars" now

at the end of the day if neil or any officer defects u for a modified car then you gottr realise they are just their job "what they are employed to do"

    • I would just put EBC back on the "I would not use their stuff" pile and move on.
    • Can I suggest you try EBC directly again and link them to as many competitor catalogues as you can to show their listing is incorrect, eg https://dba.com.au/product/front-4000-series-hd-brake-rotor-dba42304/ If you have access to an R33 GTST VIN and your VIN, you could also use a Nissan Parts lookup like Amayama to show them the part number is different between 33 GTST and 34 GTT which may get their attention
    • So i got reply from EBC and they just this site where you can clearly see those 296mm fronts on R34 GTT. I send them photos and "quotes" that 296mm are not for 34 GTT and they are too small. But it will be very hard to return them cuz nobody here knows 100% and they just copy those EBC catalogue :-D https://ebcbrakesdirect.com/automotive/nissan/skyline-r34
    • Hi, is the HKS  Tower Bar still available ? negotiable ? 🤔
    • From there, it is really just test and assemble. Plug the adapter cables from the unit into the back of the screen, then the other side to the car harness. Don't forget all the other plugs too! Run the cables behind the unit and screw it back into place (4 screws) and you should now have 3 cables to run from the top screen to the android unit. I ran them along the DS of the other AV units in the gap between their backets and the console, and used some corrugated tubing on the sharp edges of the bracket so the wires were safe. Plug the centre console and lower screen in temporarily and turn the car to ACC, the AV should fire up as normal. Hold the back button for 3 sec and Android should appear on the top screen. You need to set the input to Aux for audio (more on that later). I put the unit under the AC duct in the centre console, with the wifi antenna on top of the AC duct near the shifter, the bluetooth antenna on the AC duct under the centre console The GPS unit on top of the DS to AC duct; they all seem to work OK there are are out of the way. Neat cable routing is a pain. For the drive recorder I mounted it near the rear view mirror and run the cable in the headlining, across the a pillar and then down the inside of the a pillar seal to the DS lower dash. From there it goes across and to one USB input for the unit. The second USB input is attached to the ECUtec OBD dongle and the 3rd goes to the USB bulkhead connected I added in the centre console. This is how the centre console looks "tidied" up Note I didn't install the provided speaker, didn't use the 2.5mm IPod in line or the piggyback loom for the Ipod or change any DIP switches; they seem to only be required if you need to use the Ipod input rather than the AUX input. That's it, install done, I'll follow up with a separate post on how the unit works, but in summary it retains all factory functions and inputs (so I still use my phone to the car for calls), reverse still works like factory etc.
