I pretty much agree with everything you've said, except this....

Sure PNV's are rare, but only in Japan are they of value, here they're just another R30.

A coupe isn't just another R30.Yeah,the import sedans are just another R30,as the bodies are available here, same as the dumb-ass 'super hatches', but the coupes are clearly different, and as such,I feel they're in a different class to the "regular" R30's.

my 2cents :D

Guys, These are my reasons for what I have done and will do.

Firstly, I have been an admirer of the R30 Skyline for a long time, the Ozzy released 4 door sedan & hatch has been considered by a lot of knowledgeable people throughout the auto industry as the BEST Skyline ever to come to this country, short of the R32.

My original project vehicle was a 4 door Ti hatch & I went to my local Parts recycler and asked if they did anything trick with them in Japan. Other than the FGMS DR30's, I had never seen an Iron Mask front in the flesh, so to speak and when I did I thought it looked great compared to the stock fronr on the oz delivered car.

I thought if I was to put this horny looking front on the car and I stopped to fill up at the garage and all that was under the bonnet was a stocky L24/L28, I would be laughed at, so an engine swap had to happen.

After some investigation, it was decided to build an RB, with the intension of making a "Horsepower Heroes" car for the Summernats class of 6 cyl n/a. About 300rwhp was the aim. To get this HP the engine was a nightmare to just consider driving on the road, didn't idle under 3000 revs, had a torque band of about 400 revs and needed to spin at over 10500 to get the power. All in all, as a drive on the street deal, the n/a was not an option.

Now having done all the research on RB's and having bought the engine, it was decided to build a turbo version for the street, BUT along came the PNV at a very reasonable price $5000.00, so it was then decided to go ahead with the RB conversion into now! the coupe.

The original R30 Ti Hatch came with an engineer's report as an a/mkt turbo set up, so to me it was just natural to swap all the turbo bits off the L20ET onto the L24, making that a ET, as per engineer's report and it would then be sold as a legal thing.

I am 192cm tall and DO NOT FIT inside an R30 with a helmet on, so with stock seats, track work was a non event. So a change in seating had to be done so that I could lower the front seats, at least 4 inchs. It seemed very natural to swap the PNV seating into the Hatch, as I had no use for it. The PN patches were removed, plus the PNV steering wheel was also removed and kept, as my coupe is the PNV, not the hatch.

This is basically the reasons why my PNV is going through so many changes.

I hope all the loyalists to the rare PNV coupe, understand why everything has and had to be done.

Thanks.

So no photos of the red seats with the patches on them ? :(

I cgaf what you do it, its your car, I just like the standard style front (with a bit of fiddling as discussed in PMs and I really like ths sound of the L series

I only got the RSX beacuse it was faster than the plain HR30 coupe I was also looking at

I'd buy Sams PNV if I could sell my other car because its a REALLY clean coupe, interior is perfect as, full white (not two tone). To me it would just need some more lowering, different wheels, a 3 slat grille and some spoiler under the front bumper to be a really cool daily driver

I'm about 2cm shorter and I agree it would be hard to fit in with a helmet (whole bloody car is built for little Japanese people), so I've bought a Recaro for mine (plus the standard bolsters are shiit) but am yet to fit it

I think Ghostrider meant any other R30 coupe

I guess I should have picked up on that one..... :slap:

Ghostrider, don't hink that you have to "justify" yourself on here.Like Adam said,it's your car,and your car only has to please you. That's what I reckon.

Personally.I'm going to toss my RB20DET in the bin,as it sucks ass :flamed:

A great many people would flame me on here for that, but that's ok to.

You gotta do whats you gotta do :(

Can't balame you for that, the red rocker RB20DET's sucked. Go look at all the reviews, they say it doesn't rev past 5G's

Don't know about that.... Mine goes to 7500rpm no probs, but goes faster if you change up a bit after 6000rpm.

The red cam cover RB20's aren't as good a package as the silver top versions, and in close to stock form, won't match them.(I reckon)

If going for aftermarket ecu, turbo, etc, then there's nothing wrong with using the red-top RB20 as a base,as all the things that hold them back from the factory are replaced anyway.

i've driven a r31 gts-x with the nics red top and there was nothing there to make me smile in my eyes my rb30e goes harder, from memory the nics red top was only 20hp more than the l20et, to its defence though it was the very next 6cyl engine nissan produced after the l20et, silver top has 205hp at the fly same as the intercooled fj20, produces around 15 more Nm at 6500rpm and with around $2500 in mods should produce around 160rwkws, rb25 turbo and remap 180-200wrkw, vg30 turbo and remap of stock ECU 200-220rwkw...parts and upgrades are at your fingertips from a range of places!! my two cents...

The best part of the red RB20 is the cams, they are 248 degrees both, as silver are only 240 inlet & 236 exhaust.

single adj cam gear can help with that, i just got the new HPI mag it cam with a copy of ZOOM that had all the factory cam settings for all nissan engines, also the HPI had a 2 page write up on the dr30 :)

one of the HPI mags i've got has a artical on a bloke who re-mapped the nics ECU and how to get some good power out of it!!

once the turbo runs at full rpm (silver top makes full power at 6500 engine rpm)its not going to produce more power so the only way to go faster would be to change gear :headspin:

Got the same set of magazines, but how do you get 8 & 12 degrees out of an adj cam pulley?

was'nt looking to match them but as the mag says it car'nt hurt... HPI have used that same write up a few months ago but was only one page that time, the interior for the car they used is the same as mine...no specker in the centre concile with mine though.. :headspin:

    • Check the injectors flow evenly, and are actually flowing what you and the ECU think they should be flowing. If it's starting up on starter fluid, you have a fuel issue. Is it possible under cranking your fuel pump is turning off?   The harness you replaced, is that the whole engine harness? Do yourself a test, and drop the old harness on and plug it into the Z32 ECU. It's possible they've wired things different. From memory S1 to S2 is different in RB25 and you may have a wrong loom
    • I haven’t pulled the injectors to watch them spray yet but they are clicking from the cas and all of the spark plugs are wet with fuel. I’ve thought the cylinders were being flooded from the beginning and was hoping fuel pressure would fix it. Tonight I am going to pull the rail and watch the injectors spray. Don’t know how to test/diagnose if the plugs are firing in correct sequence but that should be a timing thing and as far as timing goes my car still has the half moon for the cas can only install it 1 way. And my mechanical timing is 100% correct I posted photos above. Confirmed with the balancer on and off.
    • I checked spark on all cylinders and they all visually have spark with the plug pulled and grounded, but plug 1 is the only one that fouled. This was a running swap that blew up and was rebuilt by a machine shop, put a new wiring specialties harness and did all gaskets, studs, and bolts while it was out.  compression is 135-150 across all cylinders. Aside from that from my understanding with the z32 ecu and maf the car should start regardless. The wiring for TPS and the dual 02 sensor/ dual knock sensor stuff shouldn’t actually stop the car from starting or even running well, (just slightly rich)  they just give fault codes. Car supposedly is supposed to start as long as you have z32 afm and ecu with the nistune base map and that’s info coming from a well known and trusted tuner who does a lot with SR/RB (Rsenthalpy). After more trouble shooting today where I’m at right now is that the cas is sending signal to the injectors they click while spinning the rotor, Fuel pressure is now set at 43psi, all cylinders have good compression and all of the plugs looked great (just wet with fuel) except for cylinder 1 which was very black (cylinder 1 has 150psi compression). all of the coils generate spark if pulled out and grounded out on the head. On the fuel pump car just pops into the exhaust. On starting fluid car will fire off. Hard to tell if all cylinders are firing off but definitley a couple. sounds like all of them but it’s only for 3-5 seconds hard to tell.
    • Final update!!! Got the front bar fitted and sprayed and all sorted now. My cutouts worked great and the indicators aren’t just falling off. 😂
    • Is this a brand new LSD? if so, have you followed any break/bed in procedure for it? Usually involves heaps of figure 8 patterns, a fluid flush.
