:) My mates and i were sitting around last night brainstorming ideas as to what colour choice our friends R34 should be resprayed. There was obviously mixed suggestions but in my opinion i suggested something more mainsteam not too over the top even if he went down the path of a "kandy" respray. I guess my argument here is given the fact that cops are in force, vicroads are eyeing our "imports" and every other tom dick and harry with a "zorst" is getting EPAed, why would you want to attract unwanted attention if it had to be a daily driver. Keep it clean, definately no rice or "mugen...type r..." stickers(lol- vtec- YO!). Show cars are one thing but daily drivers are definately another. If it was upto me i would go pearl white, gun metal grey or kandy wine red. Something that makes a "im unique" statement but enough to get the message across to any cop eyeballing my car that im still following the rules. Anyway what do you guys think? What would you respray it if it were a daily driver or showcase masterpiece??

yeah im with jezza, a nice shiny black car always looks awesome.

in all honesty i cant stand those candy coloured paint jobs - looks stupid to me.

Id rather a nice simple colour with some pearl but no f**king 'lime green' or 'electric blues'.

factory colour codes are always good because its always easy to get a colour match if you need to touch up/respray panels in the future. Plus a fresh paintjob is always gonna look mint.

Im getting my r32 respryed in the same factory metallic black.

Matte black.

I think the cheapest way to get something like it are the hot rod flats line of paints.

There was a pic of a matte black R34 GTR somewhere on the forum, but I can't find it. Here's one of the 35

am in the same situation man only with a 33, was thinking black roof orange body or just pure lambo orange. but already been screwed over by fuzz and will definatley not pass rwc again i have decided to go really glossy black with a blue pearl over top to match my blue and black tri-spoke Advans  .

good luck with it man, in the end as long as your happy nothing else matters.

Black look sweet but you'll be forever cleaning the thing. Finger prints, bird crap, dust, dirt, water stains from ya washers, pain in the ass if you ask me. Be different, Go Calsonic Blue with white rims *drool*

no...with black rims

stay away from bright "different" colours...they hurt the eyes. blue is good...not enough blues around

Well said! I completely agree..

That 35 GTR was a vinyl job, not paint

Oic, never mind then, my bad. Wish I could find that 34 pic.

Not sure how to describe this blue/green colour it looks unique without being overstated:

Black is one of the worst colours to go......Cop bait IMO,they will see a gorgeous new black paint job and then follow up with a defect and a reaming.

Why do I say this? Every time a cop pulls me over (just minding my own business) they say the usual? "We pulled you over because of the car, shiny black paint, nice rims etc etc....."

White is the most inconspicious (spelling) colour you can get. They wont look twice unless your unleashing some externally venting gate at their car window etc :P

True and you can always offset the white with some nice black LMGT4's!

    • Shouldn't need a "base map" for anything other than guidance to ignition tuning. You just need the engine capacity right, the injector size right, and something, almost anything, for a VE map. On an NA engine, fuelling is almost completely a function of load signal & rpm. It should run and drive with a completely flat fuel map. It will be too lean under load, but that's easily fixed. We used to tune all ECUs without any base map. There were no such things (until someone had tuned a near stock engine on one, and then they had a "base map".
    • What did you actually buy/how much did it cost? When I got mine in like.. 2017...? 2019? the aim was to run Torque for gauges via ODB2 and things like Track Addict/Laptimers/Dashcam/Reversecam/Spotify etc. Mine never broke, but I wonder if you've got the same needs (it sounds like it). Cause I liked the idea of being able to do anything with it. That said, yours also cost 3x the cost of what I spent so... food for thought.
    • For me there is a massive difference in manufacturer or big brand crippled android (Sony, Kenwood etc) vs the sort of thing I've installed here, which is basically just a tablet in DIN form factor with open Android, and the other model of course is mirroring - Android Auto/Carplay. I hate the locked down manufacturer and AA options where they decide what apps I'm allowed to install, including the Launcher but also importantly things like Ecutek (for this car) or Real Dash (Stagea) are not supported. Plus those crippled versions tend to be slower due to both overheads and lower spec hardware. On the other hand, when this breaks I'll likely be in trouble for support....but how is that different to owning an Infiniti anyway
    • Yeah, Duncan is helping sell me back to Android devices. I've hated the whole Android head units due to their speed issues. Even in my old Hyundai Kona (2022 model), it behind the scenes was Android, and slow and shitty to start up. Once running wasn't bad, but still a good 15 to 30 seconds.
    • My roof rails are off atm on the E39 until the rust is fixed. I did find another little bit of surface rust under the rails when I took them off. As @soviet_merlin said I'd just leave them alone unless you're planning on ensuring they're properly sealed. I was on the fence about leaving them off as the delete is still a thing in BMW E39's but I feel like the car is missing something (er, it is, der) with them off and I'm looking forward to putting them back on.
