Steve-SST: Yeah, I know its not a massively sensible purchase, but my aim is response first, second and third, plus I can source one for Y130,000.

But I don't want to be the first guinea pig :rofl:

LW.

Yes you do... Its for the good of the group! ;)

  • 6 years later...

bumping any old topic,

Has anyone used one yet? im debating if it is worth it, not so worry about the cost. Just want to know if it does have any gains over a std plenum.

The car its going on is a track car with the goal of responds if that makes a difference.

My plenum is coming off to install my map sensors, so was thinking it would be a good time to swap over

Does that mean we should all go out and buy one Trent? ;)

Along with tricky prop shafts, possibly different diff gears and so on? :(

Factory is fine - Racepace have tested it, factory was better for what you want over a Greddy/Nismo.

If they were good, then cars wouldn't have had them taken off for a stock one to go back on :D

Same as all your other fancy bits mate - 95% of them are not going to offer you any benefits @ the track - learning to drive your new car over a season or two will give you far better improvment and the best part...

It's free :(

I agree with Nismoid I would spend more time thinking about your modifications and want you want to achieve and less on brand... save you heaps really.

That being said; if they were no good, the GT cars would be removing them! Factory is fine; Nismo is better... worth it for over $2k? No!

Oh i agree - im sure there is some alteration - somewhere.

But they are all out racecars where some things are not important (like low end response, coupled with different gearing, motor properties etc, all subjective)

interesting because nismo state it helps low end response (increase response throughout the rev range)

if price is right looks like i pick it up

Well a product maker isn't going to tell you their product doesnt do anything are they now?

IMO your buying simply because it has a jap label is silly, and pointless.

Especially for a circuit car where they are far more crucial things - but we've all said it 10 times now in th MSport area :(

I understand what your saying, i have been doing alot of reading lately regarding what to upgrade and what not to upgrade. i don't want to go silly with the engine... i know if i open that door i will end up doing broke, and never getting the car racing.

If the nismo plenum was full price there is no way i buy it but when there is a chance i can get it alot cheaper for a near new one why not :(

for me its price v's gain. i try and find bargins. 2k for nismo plenum, wouldn't buy. 1k for nismo plenum now we are talking :(

In the red corner weighing in at mega we have Nismo. They have obviously dropped a fair amount of coin in to the research, development and production of this product and, given their track record i see no reason to doubt their claims.

In the blue corner We Have Nismoid. He hasnt spent a plug nickel on testing the validity of the makers claim as to the performance benefits of the product. Matter of fact I doubt he has even seen one.

Now who do I believe. HMMMMMM! :(:D

out of interested, when racepace tested it, why wasn't it better?

the information out there about the nismo plenum is limited all i can find is what nismo has posted

img_clctr_graph1_en.gif

img_clctr_graph2_en.gif

Specifications

* Collector volume: 4.1 liter (genuine = 3.4 liter)

* Intake pipe length: 73.8mm (genuine = 48.5mm)

* Intake pipe diameter: tapered from 43 to 45 (genuine = 45)

* Material, production method: cast aluminum

* Intake temperature difference at the entrance of turbo chargers is improved averaging18% in 2,400 to 7,600 rpm range.

* At 4,800 to 7,600 rpm, power output is increased by an average of 1.8%, while fuel economy is improved averaging 0.4%

also interesting to note nismo say:

This product cannot be installed with the engine mounted

having look at the plenum i would have through it could be done with the engine in the car?

me, well i would not spend that money but after speaking to a few jap tuners in japan they all swear by them (better overall distribution and good gains even on small setups)... just one shop here does not like them.. hardly enough to convince me they "aint all that"

Basicly i agree though for 2k id spend it elsewhere to gain a few 10ths... but if you have the coin spare do it.

1.8% - Yep, certainly more critical things to spend the money on as i said in the first post :(

Which is really the point at the end of the day. Nice to have... However pointless when there are 100 other points that need addressing for this users aim in a midly powered circuit car.

Removing the sound deadening would be significantly more beneficial and you can do that for around $100.

2k towards some nice tyres too :(

    • There's restrictor pills in the stock boost control hoses. That's how they set the amount that was bled off and hence the "high" boost setting. The usual mod in the day was to remove it and send the "high" boost setting up to about 14 psi.
    • Thanks Duncan, that's the best info I've read. Furthermore after learning about the PCM programming side controlling the factory boost solenoid, the purpose of the solenoid is to "bleed" boost when pin 25 is earthed, thus allowing spring pressure in the wastegate actuator to overcome diaphragm boost pressure, thus closing or reducing the position of the wastegate flap creating more boost as the turbo is able to spin faster. It's pretty cool to see a designated Pill to do exactly this, would have liked to have seen it with a tiny filter over the end for those moments in vacuum.  The constant bleed pill has now been removed completely from the system and solenoid boost control has been restored once again.   Case closed 😂
    • The wideband reading is meaningless if it's not running. Why are you using shitty old sidefeeds on any engine, let alone a Neo? What manifold and fuel rail are you using to achieve that? Beyond that, can't help you with AEM stuff as I've never been their ECU/CAS combo.
    • Manual boost controllers (where a little of the boost was bled off) were quite common back in the day, because they were cheap and easy. Generally they had a manual adjustment screw rather than being fixed like yours. Down side is they always bleed boost, not just when you want them to so an electronic boost controller that uses a solenoid will have less lag.
    • Hello , im new here and i have A31 home build  RB25det neo stock eng / turbo  aem ems 2 blue connector  aem 3.5 map aem cas disk aem wideband connected to ecu  355 lph pump 550 nismo yellow injectors side feed aftermarket regulator  and won’t start with base aem tuner basic tune eventually flipped cas 180 degree so it triggers on correct stroke not in exhaust cycle  Now it won’t start Wideband reads 10 and 11 at lowest fuel setting  and will share calibrations soon for aem tuner i think something is wrong in aem tuner    please if you have any information, am very grateful
