90's mustangs (which are nuggets  ) can be had for cheap as over there!!

When I was there a couple weeks back, on La Brea Ave - from bascially a few km's out of LAX to Hollywood, I lost count how many used car dealerships there are!!

and thats just that road....used car market is MASSSSIVE there!

im sure you'll have no drama's getting a good car :D

Due to work, I may be getting shipped off to LA for a couple of years. While I'm out here for this trip I figured I would go and do a little browsing over the car market to see what I may end up buying if I end up out here long term. (Don't worry Steve. GTR ain't going up for sale).

Pheeew!

Would be a shame to see it go

Id go a Caddy :D

you gotta get something you can't get anywhere else.

the bonus is you get to bring it back to australia for $3k and no taxes and maybe make a profit.

You're in LA, always sunny, always parking, valet outside every restaurant, so get this for $15k:

Surely you would go buy a Corvette, LS6 or lower perhaps..

That or a saleen or other musty.

Buy a house too because the market is piss week some people are selling up for $1000!

Everyone is broke so make sure you take them for all they are worth haha

over there, a hearse looks different. You haven't seen six feet under?

well over here.........it looks like a HEARSE!

no i havent seen 6 feet under

yeah i agree with you on that one.

the most sensible thing is to just forget about WASTING money on a car...

buy one to get you from A - B...

save up to buy a property... yeah ive read an article on how cheap properties are in USA at the moment.

and plus you'd probably never would be able to own a house in australia, like many young generations here.

oh well

the choice is yours

well the way i look at it.....ur wrong

the Miata IS, the MX5 with a different name

and in japan apparently its called "Roadster"..its only called mx5 in aust

just like the Toyota Yaris.........its still called "Echo" in some countries...

and "Vitz" in various others......

and in north america its called "Belta" and asian countries "Vios"

Agreed, they're all facts, apart from the mx5 only in Aust bit. I also apologise for the confusion my sarcasm has caused.

They look good in pics......but after driving one i can definatly say you'll regret buying it after having the r32

Got recent pics of R32?

I wish I had some. I had the car all washed before I left AU and forgot. When I get back I may get a professional spread done (need a poster for my wall :D )

Mustangs are everywhere in cali. After a month you will be sick of seeing them. They're like seeing a ford falcon in sydney.

I went and visited the Turbonetics factory in Simi Valley and one of the dudes wanted to trade me his mustang for an R32.

    • Bit of a pity we don't have good images of the back/front of the PCB ~ that said, I found a YT vid of a teardown to replace dicky clock switches, and got enough of a glimpse to realize this PCB is the front-end to a connected to what I'll call PCBA, and as such this is all digital on this PCB..ergo, battery voltage probably doesn't make an appearance here ; that is, I'd expect them to do something on PCBA wrt power conditioning for the adjustment/display/switch PCB.... ....given what's transpired..ie; some permutation of 12vdc on a 5vdc with or without correct polarity...would explain why the zener said "no" and exploded. The transistor Q5 (M33) is likely to be a digital switching transistor...that is, package has builtin bias resistors to ensure it saturates as soon as base threshold voltage is reached (minimal rise/fall time)....and wrt the question 'what else could've fried?' ....well, I know there's an MCU on this board (display, I/O at a guess), and you hope they isolated it from this scenario...I got my crayons out, it looks a bit like this...   ...not a lot to see, or rather, everything you'd like to see disappears down a via to the other side...base drive for the transistor comes from somewhere else, what this transistor is switching is somewhere else...but the zener circuit is exclusive to all this ~ it's providing a set voltage (current limited by the 1K3 resistor R19)...and disappears somewhere else down the via I marked V out ; if the errant voltage 'jumped' the diode in the millisecond before it exploded, whatever that V out via feeds may have seen a spike... ....I'll just imagine that Q5 was switched off at the time, thus no damage should've been done....but whatever that zener feeds has to be checked... HTH
    • I think Fitmit had some, have a look on there (theyre Australian as well)
    • Hah, fair enough! But if you learn with this one you can drive any other OEM manual. No modern luxury features like auto rev-matching or hillstart assist to give you a false sense of confidence. And a heavy car with not that much torque so it stalls easily.
    • Actually, I'd say all three are the automatic option. Just the different trim levels. The manual would be RSFS, no?
