So the goverment stimulus packages have started rolling out, for those of us who get it who's doing what to your car with it? Or are you using it for other stuff in life (there's something else then car's?!! :D )

Ive decided to use it fix everything that is wrong with my stagea. Amongst all the fixes there is one mod i snuck in :)

The list is as follows:

New ISC 52mm rad

New thermostat

Coolant flush and chnage

New tie rod ends

New rack ends

New rack bushes

New sway bar bushes front and rear

Adjustable castor rods

All up comes to just over $1000 so i have a bit to come up with but not the full amount.

I also have sitting here for it which i havnt fitted:

New fuel pump

New engine fan (mines cracked)

HICAS breaker bar (this will be the 3rd time ive tried to fit it as i cant find a tie rod splitter to fit :D )

So this will pretty much everything that is wrong with the car atm. So then i can put the price up :D jokes.

So what are other people doing? Confess!!

WTF is a HICAS "breaker" bar ? do you mean a hicas lock bar ? and if so why do you need a tie rod splitter . mine took half an hour to jack up and swap hicas rack with a new one . only slight issue was getting a spanner on passenger end of the rack because the exhaust was kinda in the way

Yeah sorry hicas lock bar.

I did a 34 once without splitting the tie rods where the rack connects to the hubs. Only one side came out the other didnt have enough movement. So i didnt bother with this one. Might try it when i get it in the air next.

Good job im ordering a rad, mine just split the bottom tank today!! HAPPY!!

Big Kev the second is paying for my Power-FC re-tune for my RS4s as at the SAU-Vic dyno day my peak power was only 110awkw at 4000rpm and the power went down from there?

my old rs4s went from 125rwkw to 200.9rwkw with a PFC install/tune

OK so i got a little excited and started ordering the parts before the money got here as i had to rush it a little. I had planned on getting a new rad which was handy as mine split on me last week. So the car hasnt moved since last monday.

So i have so far:

Got the rad out and flushed the coolant out and changed thermostat also changed the engine fan. (waiting for new rad to arrive)

Fitted the rear Hicas cancellor and rear camber arms.

Fitted the a autometer boost guage and mearcat pod i had from the old RS4

Started fitting the fuel pump

Then the fun began, today my bushes turned up that i orderded. Front and rear sway bar mounts bushes, rear link bushes and steering rack bushes. I never measuered my sway bars i just went the stock size... well i should of.

Stock size rear is 18mm mine is 24mm

Stock size front is 22mm mine is 28mm

So it appears i have aftermarket sway bars in there, so im happy for that and sad that i spent $100 on the wrong bushes. So i have to order some more now.

So i thaught OK i'll do the link bushes while im here, and what happens both links one end shear's off... So ive just ordered some new links coming ex east be here in a week...

At least i have a sense of pride as im definatley doing my part for the economy now!

OK back out to the garage to see what else i can break i mean repair.

Well I picked up an S13 for $500 on saturday so i guess i will put the money straight into that. It may not get me an SR20DET from DE conversion but it will

And now:

Drift or road car im not sure yet, either way when finished it will have cost under 5k!

So the Stag gets nothing for now :P

maybe 260RS is GTR sized bars?

I rang a suspension place here in WA. And they told me the sizes, and said there stock 33 GTR sizes? I dunno? Maybe autech put diff sway bars in?

    • I don't understand how this hasn't boiled down to - Upgrade the turbo when you have everything required. ECU, injectors, fuel pump, turbo, etc. Do it all at once.  If you don't have everything required, just enjoy the car as it is and keep saving up your pennies.
    • Sounds like you've got an interesting adventure ahead here with local support if you have trouble! My guess is that, unboosted, you will be OK with a small upgrade like -9. What will happen is that once the stock ECU sees more airflow than it expects it will add a heap of fuel and pull a heap of timing to be safe because it can't understand how it could get that much air without there being an issue. You will see clouds of black smoke and it won't pull hard through the midrange and top end. So, overall it will be a bit frustrating but should be OK. If you are still nervous set the base timing back 2o through the CAS, but it will be even more sluggish everywhere. As said above through...this is not my guarantee your engine won't be blown into a million pieces, leaving you looking for very hard to find parts A better idea is get a computer with logging ASAP, wire in a wide band O2 sensor and a use remote tuner. I've done multiple cars this way and while it is not as good as a specific tune on a dyno they can get it 90% right. I'd suggest if you can afford an R33 GTR these days you can afford an ECU and tune. And if you can't afford that you sure won't be able to afford the rebuild if it goes bad in the meantime,.
    • Yeah it would be nice if someone took the time to put that sort of information together, but there are a lot of variations in looms. I think you are making this way hard for yourself if you just want to get it running....sourcing an SR20 with the right wiring will be a billion times easier than matching the RB loom to an S15 chassis. If you do end up going this way, you just need to trace every wire in the loom with a multimeter, 95% of them will go to a location you can confirm at the ECU.....and then post it up for the next person who needs it
    • Just top it up with water, and keep a general idea of how much you added. It is normal for water to be pushed into and pulled out of the reservoir through the cap, and it should not be more than half full or it will be likely to overflow when hot. Any decent mechanic can do a pressure test of the cooling system to confirm if you have a leak. Keep in mind if it is only leaking a little and when hot it may well evaporate before you see it hit the ground
    • I'd ask the shop what they used and use that. Mixing coolants is sometimes OK, sometimes not, and you have know the details of each coolant to know whether it's a good idea or not.
