Sorry if this is the wrong place to post,

Hi all i'm new here so here goes....

For the last year, I have been in the process of building my track/race 350z 2006 with all of the driveline, VQ38VHRTT from the new R35 GTR Jap spec halfcut from Japan.

Painstakenly the engine, twin airboxes and all of the wiring has been fitted and bolted under the hood to keep the car looking stock as possible. All of the rear diff, transmission and suspension have been welded/fitted and bolted in the rear end from the halfcut I imported from japan 2008.

When I recived my shipment from japan most of the parts were missing! Critical parts like the ECU (needed to run the gearbox and quick launch) front Seats, steering wheel are all gone. Apparently now my biggest problem is (which i found out last night talking to my mechanic) that I cannot use my Motec m600 to run the car according to him the car will start but not drive as the whole ecu controls the transmission. I have read posts from here and see you guys are the ones in the know! What should i do? Wanting the car to look stock but packing punches, how can i get it to start should i buy a new ecu immobiliser keys? anybody have japanese sources for parts?

how much would this All cost? any help is much appreciated.

Not sure many people will be able to help you out. You are definitely treading on very unknown grounds there mate . I know work on the R35 ECU has been going on but as for running the engine out of the car.. wow :). Photos?

I am in Australia, my mate from Queensland did most of the dropping in the engine welding and fitting in his garage at QLD for 3000 !

the parts were very expensive though. I will definitely take some photos with my mobile when i drop the exhaust off. anybody have a Zele modded ecu in there R35? how much do they go for ?

The car will be used for the strip so speed limiting will definiely out of the question, gradually as the engine receives mods and turbos ect.... down the track would like to have a ecu to handle the change. For now I am looking at getting her running and engineered for registration purposes.

Send Haltec an email, I know they where working on a gearbox control when everything went a little pear-shaped.

Have you also thought about old-style H-pattern gear selection and custom parts, might be something else also to think about.

As for everyone wanting pics, how bout help the guy, then ask for pics

it sounds like bs.

x2

The VQ35 is a great engine to start with. Wouldn't it be easier just to stroke it bolt on some turbos and put a holinger behind it?

It would be alot less hassle. Not as interesting 'pics' wise, but easier.

Besides, it's not called a VQ38VHRTT. I reckon if you'd gone to all the trouble of sourcing it and sticking it in the car you'd know the correct engine designation. And you wouldn't normally get front seats in a half cut, and definately not a rear mounted transaxle gearbox.

Sorry mate, it's nothing personal, just that a few things don't quite add up.

However, if you are genuine, then good on ya mate for doing something different, and if the pics do surface, then I'll eat my hat.

    • I am yet to see anyone ever regret a quaife or helical. ...other than drifting/skidpan duties. I kind of want to upgrade my factory helical with a Quaife (but really it's not ultimately that different, and is a MASSIVE UNDERTAKING), that's how good the hype is about them, that I want to try them 'just to see'
    • D2 and Ksport are essentially the same thing and basically just generic Taiwanese manufacture. Better than ChinaBay crap, but... not top shelf. Öhlins have got to be some of the best dampers around, so likely to be a good option. It's going to get to the point though where I suggest you buy from Oz. We have at least 2x excellent options here. If I were you though, I'd be talking to KW about doing something for the R33. There's bugger all difference between that and the 32. In GTR land, anyway.
    • KW only offers a set for the R32 GTR. Popular options are D2 racing, Ksport or Öhlins. I have a D2 Racing coilover set, though I don't know for sure which one.
    • Well, the good news is you have more than one very good option for new coilovers in and around your country. Worth the drive over to KW to talk about GTR stuff.
    • Fair enough, I am in no way a tire expert so I'm not familiar with all the terms and conditions. I'll definitely note down the AD09 to potentially try in the future. Rain is not too big of a concern for now as I will probably only drive in the rain when I have to. And considering I still lack experience driving the GTR I'd more than likely take it easy too. I have coilovers in the car but as I barely got to drive so far I never bothered to even check if they are adjustable haha. The suspension is almost entirely old and worn as well so I suppose when I eventually fix that in the future that would make a huge difference.
